Who: Manuel de la Rocha, Jane Doe (AKA Cloud)
Where: Jane's Room
When: Monday afternoon
What Happens: Manuel goes to check in on Amanda, meets Cloud instead. Discussions as to power and the wonderfulness that is clothing-optional lifestyles.
---
Manuel, feeling much better after a nap, a chat with Charles Xavier, and another four aspirin or so, went to Amanda's room to check up on her progress. He stopped just outside her door, and knocked upon it gently. ~Amanda?~ he called softly in Castillian, so as to not overly disturb her.
Jane heard someone knock and ask for Amanda. She'd been doing her Math homework, which was pretty. She left and went to open the door. There was a guy standing there, one she hadn't me yet. "Hi. Um, sorry, Amanda isn't in. She woke up a bit ago and left. I think she might have gone to get more painkillers, I'm not sure. I'm Jane. Do you, um, do you want to wait in here for her?"
Manuel looked at the new girl, and then smiled winningly at her. "I think I will." he said with a strong Spanish accent. "I am Manuel de la Rocha. Some call me Empath. You are ... the new student, yes?"
"Hi, Manuel, nice to meet you. Yes, I'm new. And wow, another new accent! It doesn't sound like Amanda's or Rahne's, though. Where are you from?" She gestured for him to sit down in a chair while she sat crosslegged on her bed.
Manuel took the intended chair and sat in it with a liquid grace. "I am Spanish. From Madrid, originally." He then stares at her oddly, like he's looking through her.
"Madrid. Cool. There are so many different people here, from so many different places! It's kinda neat. Oh, and speaking of the people here, do you mind if I add you to my relationship map?" She pulled out her trusty notebook and held it out to him to show him all of her connections.
Manuel looked at the map, then turned it upside down to look at it again. "My English is not that good." he confessed with a disarming smile. "But I will help you as only I can. I've seen the relationships that you have charted there."
"Greatness! So, where do you fit? Who are your roommate?"
"I do not have a roommate currently. For their protection and mine. As to where I fit - I am fairly unique. I am very good friends with Amanda, and friends too with Shinobi and Marie. Other than that ... nowhere. If you mean just the positive, that is." he explains with a smile.
"For protection? Is someone trying to hurt you? And I hadn't thought about adding in negative relationships. Maybe I should. Hmm." She wrote his name down and drew lines labeled 'friendship' between his name and the others, then she looked up again. "So why do you need to be alone in your room?"
Manuel smiled again at Jane. "I'm an empath. I see and manipulate people's emotions. I had a little bit of a control problem when I got here, so for my safety and others they gave me my own room."
"So when you said you've seen the relationships on my map, you mean you've really seen them! That is so cool! I mean, wow." That was one of the best mutations she had seen so far. Here she was having to map out peoples connections to each other and worry about what they were feeling, and Manuel could just see them. But there must be a downside, as evinced by his comment about a control problem. She guessed it would be hard to always know what other people were feeling, at that. And he could manipulate them, too? "With that kind of power, you must really be able to help people, eh?"
Manuel sighed at that, and ran his hand through his hair. "I've been trying, but my efforts are not always received well. My power is very strong, which is why I'm working hard to better control it. People are quite frightened of it sometime."
Jane nodded. "Yeah, the police were afraid of me when they saw my power. Sometimes I'm afraid of my power. I bet everyone here is, too. I mean, it's hard being different and it's hard having a power that no one else has and stuff."
"Tell me about it." he said sympathetically. "I do not wish to be rude, but what _is_ your power? I would demonstrate for you mine, but I am currently blocked and cannot project. Perhaps when that situation is rectified I will let you see as I see."
"Oh, please! I would love to see the emotions of the people around me! And yeah, here, let me show you my power." Jane closed her eyes and concentrated. A thin mist formed around her skin, wisps of cloud breaking off, and then suddenly her flesh dissolved, her clothes dropped down onto her bed. She floated in front of Manuel as a small cloud. *There, see? People have been calling me Cloud, because, well, I am!*
Manuel stared at the cloud in some fascination - and at the discard pile of clothing left behind. "That's very interesting. You didn't shift emotionally at all."
*So you can still see my emotions when I'm in this state? Is it like, um, auras? I mean, are they colors? What color am I right now!?* She bobbed up and down in front of him, excitedly.
Manuel smiled at the enthusiasm on display. "Yes, I do see them as colors. Not really auras, not like Amanda sees them. Right now, you're a very warm yellow, with some reds and greens mixed in. It's hard to see, I don't have the clarity of sight that I used to."
*I kinda clash then, I guess, huh?* If a cloud could giggle, she would be. *Do you wanna feel me?* She extended a tentril of herself towards him. *I'm not a watery cloud, I'm more like smoke. Don't breathe me in!*
"There's no clashing in emotional auras - well, not usually. I don't have the words to describe it better. It's more like a blending." He then reached out a hand to trail his fingers through Cloud's form - and blinked. "My power is sensitive to touch. I saw you more clearly, just then. Your emotions..." he trailed off.
*Yes? What about them?*
"I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you. Could you 'path that a little more loudly?" he said verbally.
*Sorry! I'll try* She concentrated really hard. *Okay, can you hear me now? Is this better?*
Manuel nodded in acknowledgement. ~Yes, that's better.~ he thought in Castillian Spanish, forgetting himself for a few moments. ~Your emotions - they're so pure. So innocent. What happened to you?~ he 'pathed at her, still in Castillian Spanish.
*Well, I don't remember my past. The police found me wandering down a highway without in memory a few months ago. They sent me to a mental institution, but the doctors there couldn't do anything to help me. Maybe my emotions are pure because I don't have a lot of past on which to base them?*
Manuel couldn't help but flinch at that. "I too have spent time unwillingly in an insane asylum. Did they experiment on you?"
*Experiment on me? No. They didn't like me, but they couldn't, you know, do anything to me. I could always just become a cloud, you see. I could have even left there, but I didn't have any place to go. But you were in an asylum, too? And not by choice.* Jane suddenly had a horrible thought. *They didn't... oh, no! Did people experiement on YOU?! That's, that's! Oh, that is awful!!*
Manuel nodded sadly. "They did. I am an empath, and a strong one. There are people out there in the world who thought to use me against my will, to ferret out the secrets of others. I have hopefully put that part of my life far behind me, and am here now to make a fresh start of things." He then trails his fingers through Cloud's, well, cloud, watching the cloud break up and reform behind his hand.
*I'm so sorry that happened to you, Manuel.* She wanted to give him a hug. Unfortunately, she couldn't, in this form. She concentrated and re-solidified herself. It took a bit longer than going the other way, so he had a bit of warning before she suddenly appeared in front of him, practically on his lap, and hugged him tight. "I'm glad that the bad people can't hurt you any more."
Manuel's eyes had just enough time to go wide before he was hugged by the very new, very _naked_, very attractively rounded-in-all-the-right-places girl. "The Bad People are everywhere, but I am learning to defend myself and those I care about from them." he said mid-hug, eyeing the expanse of her nude back. "Are you always so friendly?" he asked with a smirk.
"I want to be your friend," she said, still hugging him. "I'm glad you're learning how to defend yourself. And I'll defend you, too, if people try to hurt you again!" she said staunchly. She gave him one last squeeze and then pulled away a bit.
Manuel looked at Cloud now that she had pulled back from him a mite, and then smiled at her with a great deal of lust in his eyes. "You're a very pretty girl." he said admiringly. "I think we can be wonderful friends."
She gave him a very wide, happy smile. "Thank you! And I'm glad. Ah! I know!" She turned around and grabbed her notebook and pen. Then she drew a line between her name and his and labeled it friendship. "There!" she said, turning to show him her work proudly.
Manuel looked at the map, and then back to Cloud. "Color it red, the color of passion. The color of friendship." The color of lust, too.
"Colors! Wow, that's a great idea! Yes. Each type of relationship should had a different color line, shouldn't it?" She studied her map. She'd need to re-draw it. Maybe she should do it on a bigger piece of paper, too, since it was getting a bit crowded. She looked back up at him and grinned. "Thanks for the idea!"
Manuel smileed modestly. "It is how I see emotional relationships. As a thread of color linking people together. Each feeling has its own color, its own shade." he explained.
"That is so neat. If the color is more intense, does that mean that the feeling is more intense, too?" Manuel's power was just so fascinating.
Manuel nodded. "You're a quick study. Intensity of the color is one way of determining the strength of the feeling. The brighter the color, the stronger the feeling."
"Cool. What's my brightest color right now?" she asked.
Manuel stared at Cloud for a good fifteen seconds or so, then smiled. "It's a bright yellow, splashed in with red. It is hard to see for me right now, but I would say that it is happiness of a sort."
She grinned. "Yeah, it is. I'm happy to have a new friend in you."
Manuel looked at Cloud again, and just _grinned_. "And I think that we will get along famously." he said, raising a hand to clear some of her hair away from the side of her face.
"I think so, too. Hey, are we in any classes together? I was concentrating so hard on learning today that I didn't really notice the other students. What classes are you in?"
"ESL, Maths, psychology, psionics, and Speech are my main classes." he said. "I have been, pardon the phrase, a little under the weather lately, so I may not have noticed you in any of my classes."
"I'm in Math, too! I'm good at it. If you ever need any help, I'm your girl." She bounced on her bed a bit, happy that she was in the same class as him.
Manuel eyed that bounce with great interest. "Math is ... not my best subject. I would be delighted and honored if you would tutor me." he said with a rogueish grin.
She stood up and headed towards the door. "Then lets go get your homework! Where is your room?" She was halfway out the door before she paused. "Oh, yeah. I should put my clothes on. My roommates keep having to remind me." She went back to her bed and started pulling her clothes back on. "Do you have a calculator? I've been using Amanda's and I'm sure she won't mind if we borrow it if you don't have one. Oh wait. You were waiting here for Amanda, right? Do you want to keep waiting or just leave her a note?"
Manuel watched Cloud walk back and forth with great amusement. "Doesn't bother me any if you are comfortable in your skin. I think that it speaks well for you. But the decision is yours. My room is on the other side, in the male wing. I can catch up with Amanda later - we have much to discuss, but it can wait until she feels better."
"Cool, then lets go!"
