The line snaked around the block. It was mid-morning, and groups of New Yorkers and tourists waited for the chance to try one the latest food crazes: monster milkshakes. Among the queue of people were one Jean Grey and Jessica Jones.

"I think I might be able to see the store's sign in the distance if I stand on my tiptoes and glance into that truck's side mirror," she said.

There were probably better things to do, but Jean was admittedly curious to see how much milkshake she could eat before the sugar high sent her off into space.

Jessica let out a little laugh. Just being here with someone new, someone who didn't know about all of her baggage, was refreshing.
"That's funny. I looked these things up online and I gotta say, I'm pretty excited. My body stops bullets, so it takes a wee bit more sugar to affect me than an ordinary person. This is gonna be good." She finished with a little grin and a faux sinister rub of her hands.

Smirking, it was Jean's turn to laugh, and shook her head. "I didn't eat breakfast so I could get in as much as I could. The pictures look amazing. And they serve burgers too. Someone will have to carry us out in a wheelbarrow," she mused.

"Beef and ice cream? Sweet geezus." Jessica replied, eyes and smile wide. "Hello, wheelbarrow's-R-us? I'm going to need two extra large wheelbarrows delivered to the big millkshake shop in like an hour. Thanks!" She joked.

"That's two of the major food groups right there," Jean said with a grin. "Throw in a salad and at least it'll be moderately healthy?"

She eyed the line again with a sigh. "We might need to have the wheelbarrow delivered in a couple of hours. It doesn't seem to be moving much. Maybe we should do something to pass the time?"

"Ugh, you're right. Damn. Why can't we just flyyyyy." Jessica whined, dropping her head dramatically. "And what did you have in mind?" She asked.

"That would be nice," Jean said with a laugh. "Albeit, probably the quickest way to see what the SHIELD or the NYPD are up to."

She squinted. "And I....have no idea. The opus of my well crafted plans was coming here," she said.

"Most of the time my brain space is devoted to work."

"The NYPD?" Jessica asked softly. "Right. What is it that you do?"

Jean made a sympathetic face.

"I'm a doctor. Just finished my second residency last month, actually," she said. Since she said her body stopped bullets there was really no real need for her to go to the medlab and meet her.

"You?"

"Wow." Jessica stated. "That's pretty impressive. I'm actually a P.I. for Adrienne Frost's X-Factor Investigations. I'm not old enough to be an actual P.I. of course, but I have the training and experience that a lot of the other's don't." She answered.

Jean quirked a brow. "Oh, so you work with Warren?" she said, then nodded.

"That's pretty cool too. Being a PI, that is. What made you want to get into the business? You don't strike me as a fan of Columbo."

"Yeah, I work with Warren. He's not exactly a field operative, obviously, so I work with the others more often. I can't remember the last time I saw Adrienne, either." She answered. "And...I guess I just wanted to put my mutation to use. Do something. I didn't go to college or anything after I got my GED. I wanted to help anyone and everyone I could." She finished. "What made you decide on the medical field?"

Jean smiled knowingly. "Same. I um...lost someone when I was a little girl. So I wanted to make sure that wouldn't happen again if I could help it," she said. She shrugged.

"Now a days I know that's not as cut and dry but....I can help most of the time. And that's what's important."

Jessica nodded.
"I feel you on that one, Jean. I really do." She answered. "So, what brought you to Xavier's, then? Seems like he takes all kinds. You, a 10/10 doctor and me, a 10/10 bruiser. Then there's the Gen X kids. Don't even get me started on that." She stated with a smile.

Jean looked thoughtful. "Yeah, they're an eclectic group. But they're still good kids," she said, then eyed the line as it slowly inched forward.

"I've known Charles since I was 13. He knew my father, and when my powers manifested he stepped in to teach me how to use them. But my father was afraid I would get hurt staying at the mansion, so I stayed with one of Charles's friends, Moira, for little while while he taught me remotely. We kept in touch after I got better control, and I eventually started helping with the mutant underground and X-Corps. A year ago, I was in town to visit my sister and Charles asked me stay at the mansion. X-Corps had pretty much disbanded by that point after M-Day and I didn't really have much of a purpose anymore so I joined the X-Men," she said, then shrugged, smiling.

"And here I am."

"The X-Men, huh? Rogue's one of them. You must be a real hero type then, like her." Jessica replied. "I had some contacts in District X and I decided to check out the rumors surrounding the place. The Professor took me in, of course. He's a good man." She finished.

Jean's smile widened a little, as a fondness crossed her eyes. "Yeah, he is. I admire him a lot," she said. She tilted her head curiously.

"So what are the rumors about the place?"

"Well, obviously we don't quite advertise that it's a school for people like us." She answered. "But, well, mutants talk about mutants. Some say it's a mutant prison, some kind of sick thing you know? Most people say it's a safe haven. Like a mutant Utopia. No one's quite sure, so most people stay away. I was like 'I'm unbreakable, dude' and decided to check it out." She answered with a simple shrug.

Jean laughed. "Then you stayed too. I think I've heard someone refer to the place as Xavier's School for Wayward Mutants," she mused.

"But, keeping it safe is the important thing." Pausing a moment, she glanced over her shoulder as if she heard something, then glanced back.

"I think we're actually getting close now. Only a 5 or 6 people ahead of us. Progress!"

Jessica silently fist pumped. God was she starving.
"Wayward mutants is right. But hey, I'm really proud of all we accomplish. You, a public eye hero, and me a tough as nails, but still sexy, street level gal. It's...awesome." She rambled.

Jean shook her head. "I try not to be terribly public, but thanks, I appreciate the sentiment," she said with a soft grin.

"So which kind of shake do you plan on getting? I've been eying the cookie one."

"That sounds sooooo good. Literally chocolate, anything chocolate will ring my bells." She answered. She skipped forward, wrapping her elbow around Jean's arm. "Look, the front of the line!" She called. "Successssssssss!" She added, letting out a whoop as she did so. Delicious shakey goodness was to be hers. All hers!
