Synch and Marvel Girl take the lead against Falcon and Vision as they emerge from the wake of the Quinjet

The Quinjet had disgorged four Avengers to take on the X-Men, but as the plane swooped past, two figures swooped down on the X-Men. Behind the Quinjet, the flying Avengers had taken up formation and now bore down on them. They had barely any information on the red-skinned figure in the cape, but the other black man was Falcon, a noted recruit to the team.

Jean kept her eyes on the sky, the wind whipping her hair around like a billowing flame. The smell of jet fuel and flame from the Quinjet's engines was in the air. Being on the roof of the Triskelion, they were close enough for the wind to carry.

This was all wrong. All of it felt wrong. They weren't their enemy, despite their differences. Yet...here they were.

She glanced to Ev. She hadn't worked with the man before, but she knew a little about him from the briefings.

"Ever play Duck Hunt?" she added with a light smile.

"I'm a child of the '80s," Ev affirmed her, quickly figuring out what strategy she was suggesting. His aura illuminated, the rainbow effect speckled by the pink of Jean's psychic powers. The Avengers were the elite of the elite, even compared to SHIELD's Caterpillars. Taking on the unknown red guy (who Ev figured must have been recruited within the last year when he was on leave from SHIELD) and Sam Wilson was all but a death wish. "But who's going to play the role of the annoying laughing dog we all want to shoot instead of the ducks?"

"Rock paper scissors?" Jean offered helpfully.

Nodding to Ev, she turned back to their two opponents. If they were compromised, they needed to figure out a way to get around that, but in order to do so...it would be better for them to be on the ground.

"You go for Falcon. I'll take Red," she said. They had no intel on the red skinned guy, which was definitely not helpful either. I guess we'll find out what he does in a minute.

"Sorry, Sam." Ev's aura pinkened as he fully synched with Jean, and he raised his hands, thumb and index fingers extended like little guns, and focused his borrowed telekinesis into small blasts to distract and destabilize Falcon, who flew through the air with enviable and unmatched grace, as if his mechanical wings and jet-pack were extensions of his own body.

Meanwhile, though Jean had come up with the idea, she had better control the way she was taught, and raised her arms up, lobbying the smaller blasts of telekinesis like she were throwing a dart at the red skinned man. He reminded her of a Christmas Devil with his color scheme.

Falcon was buffered by one of the blasts but tucked himself into a tight dive. He turned as if on a pivot, yanking himself off of his original course and letting the other blasts past by him. As he slowed, both machine guns came up and peppered the air around Ev with bullets.

Several of the psychic blasts hit the Vision, who paused momentarily, his head cocked to one side. Then there was a ripple as a TK bolt went completely through him. He drifted down, almost casually towards Jean and unleashed a blast from the jewel on his forehead.

Jean saw the flash of energy coming from the man's forehead, alerting her with just enough time to be able to dodge the blast, which carved a gash into the floor of the roof like a hot knife through butter, sending off sparks.

Ev dropped and rolled to the side while at the same time enveloping himself in a telekinetic shield. Falcon's attack was wide, unfocused, but it meant to unbalance the former SHIELD agent, and Ev was almost ashamed to admit it had worked. He hazarded a glance at Jean and her opponent as Falcon swooped back up high into the air again. He (it?) seemed unconcerned, like this was just a Sunday morning stroll, and Jean was just a bug unfortunate enough to get in its way. Dropping the shield, Ev blasted Vision with a fist of psychic force, knocking its blast off target.

While Ev was occupied with Vision, Jean turned her attention back to Falcon. Judging the rate in which the bullets were coming out of the gun, she threw up a telekinetic shield closer to Falcon himself in an attempt to get the bullet to bounce off the shield and hit his own wing. Friendly fire, as it were.

Falcon flinched back as his bullets ricocheted right in front of him, causing him to drop his weapons. The slings attached pulled them back to his suit as he pushed himself backwards in the air, shielding his face with his forearms. Vision cut a long line between them with a solar blast as he moved to help his teammate.

Letting our a yelp of surprise, Jean jumped out of the way. She could feel the heat radiating off the blast. If she hadn't had a uniform on it might have singed her skin.

"Switch off!" she said to Ev, eyes flickering toward him.

~I have an idea.~

~Go for it,~ Ev replied telepathically.

An unseen hand grabbed hold of one of Falcon's wings. It could not hold for long on account of the flying man's momentum, but it threw him off balance and sent him careening into Vision, who phased to safety before being messily bludgeoned by the falling rocket man.

"Batter up," said Ev as he delivered another telekinetic burst at Falcon. The Avenger deflected most of the blast with his wings that had formed something like a kite shield on his back, but surely Ev had thrown him off his equilibrium.

Meanwhile, Jean drew Vision's fire, running in a zig zag pattern to focus the man's concentration.

~On my mark, bring Falcon toward the direction of the red man.~

She said, continuing her pattern and firing off telekinetic burst, until she abruptly stopped and telekinetically yanked Vision's red cape over his eyes. Someone obviously hadn't seen the Incredibles.

"Now!"

Ev repeated his move, although this time he fully encapsulated Falcon in a bubble. Focusing all his borrowed power to keep the Avenger from freeing himself, Ev launched Falcon toward the distracted Vision for a second round of Avenger bowling.

Vision pulled the cape from his eyes just as the telekinetically encased Falcon slammed into him. Falcon began to topple as it was impossible to deploy his wings, but Vision was able to grab him by the leg and stop his fall. The gem on his forehead flashed and a wide wave of yellow energy flashed out. As it washed over them, it was as if a million tiny claws had pulled on their telekinetic auras, pushing them back momentarily.

Jean felt the searing heat radiate from around the telekinetic aura. It was like being baked alive, an unpleasant reminder of her last mission as they skidding backward across the room, nearing the edge of the other side.

Narrowing her eyes, she chose to tap into her anger. Up above them a faint screech and a ripping sound was heard, as one of the surprisingly massive radio antennas was ripped off the building, which she used to blindside Vision.

The energy dissipated, and Jean brushed her hair out of her eyes.

"I don't know who this guy is, but he's formidable. He--" She turned her head suddenly, as if hearing something in the distance.

"Crap. I need to go. Rogue needs help with the not-so-jolly green giant. She's not doing so hot."

"Go," replied Ev, knowing full well the danger that Hulk posed. "I'll keep these . . ." He turned, sighting a boon not too far away, which made him grin. "Let me call Dust. Nothing to worry about anymore."
