Xavin and Rogue try to pick up where things fell apart.

It had been an embarrassingly long time since Rogue had spoken to Xavin.‎ At first, it had been to give the younger teen some space. Then, it was to not make them uncomfortable. And then it'd been so long, Rogue had no idea how to mend it.

Thank god for birthdays and cupcakes.

A red velvet cream cheese cupcake in hand, she knocked on Xavin's door with determination. No turning back.

Xavin looked up from the computer screen and sighed. "Come in?"

Rogue plastered a smile on her face and peeked in. "Hey you!" She extended her arms out to show the cupcake. "Happy birthday! Can we be friends again?" Her grin was genuine as she slowly walked in. "And to cement our newfound friendship, I'm not going to sing a song for you because then you'd hate me and we'd go another six months without speaking."

Xavin gave a small sigh. On the one hand, Rogue, on the other, cupcakes. "As long as there's no signing." The grad suits meant not sharing a room. Meant having space for a chair from the thrift store. "Sit down? And uh, thanks for the cupcake." Xavin swung the laptop lid closed and smiled slightly, one green-tinged finger drumming on the case for a moment.

"No problem," she responded cheerfully. "And just to be clear, I definitely didn't make it. Didn't think food poisoning was a good birthday gift.". Taking Xavin's words as a good sign, Rogue came in and sat down. "So. How's it going? Can we be friends again? It's weird living in the same space and not talk."

There was a long pause. "Either you were my counsellor and we weren't friends because God, that's unprofessional or you were my friend who was really bad at boundaries and kept thinking she was counselling me. Which was it?" Xavin's heart was pounding. This was difficult.

Rogue had the decency to look embarrassed. "It was a tough time for me then. Wasn't really in my proper head, but kind of was at the same time. Long story short, I had some personality issues that weren't really conducive to being either: a counselor OR a friend. So. I like to think we were friends and I was just super nosy and a busybody who didn't really understand that you needed a friend more than a counselor." A pause. "Does that make sense?"

Xavin shrugged. It was an apology about a boundary they hadn't fully understood was being crossed at the time. "You know how wrong that was, right?"

"I do now," Rogue retorted. "I mean, come on -- I was basically 16 at the time. No excuses and all, but it wasn't like I was making that decision with my full mental faculties, y'all!"

"You never said that at the time!"

Rogue cringed. "I know....but I barely understood it myself. I only knew things were wrong because, well, everyone told me." She sighed heavily. "I just don't want things to still be awkward. I miss having random chats with you and checking in."

"Maybe don't say things like 'checking in'? It sounds like something that my psych prof says." Xavin sighed. "I'd like to try to start again, too. I don't even know you. The real you."

'I don't really know the real me either, sugar," Rogue admitted with a wry grin. "Side effect of my powers.". She tapped the side of her head with a finger. "Got parts of all the people I've ever touched up here....but I'll tell ya, I value honesty like nobody's business, so what you see is what you get. I promise. And I'll be your friend, nothing more. If for whatever reason you think you need counselling, we'll call Haller in or something. Boundaries, and all.". She smiled. "Capice?"

Xavin shrugged and looked down at long, slender fingers with close trimmed nails and sparkly blue polish. "Haller can't help me but sure."

Rogue tried not to roll her eyes. Teenagers. "Well, let's not worry about that. Instead, let's just catch up and eat cupcakes."

"All right." They were good cupcakes.
