Molly and Jubilee face off against the first obstacle on the road to Hel.

The dark cavern gave way to a wide and rocky plain. There was a single lane road of beaten dirt that wove through it, and the unlikely fellowship set out along it. Valkyrie explained they had reached Midhogg, one of the outlying lands of Niffleheim that bordered Hel. As they passed the mighty plinths of piled rock that dotted the landscape, they could see figures in chains writhing on them. Oathbreakers and murderers, condemned to spend their lives trapped, tormented by thirst and hunger, exposed to the elements of all seasons, locked against the same rock for eternity.

Eventually, the road led up between two small mountains of the same shattered stone. In the middle, blocking the path, was a man of stone. Not a statue or a carving, but a man; a giant, who looked as if he was put together from the same rock as the surroundings. He was seated on a crudely hewn throne, and from his stony breast, the hilt of a sword protruded. As they approached, he grabbed the hilt, trying to pull it free. The sword didn't move, and he screamed in rage. From the outcroppings around them, smaller versions of the man unfolded and began to race down the sides at their party.

Whatever happiness that usually exuded from Molly had been replaced with a hard, solemn determination. She had been taught by Sif not to betray her fear, even when it threatened to boil over. She recognized the man on the chair from stories told around the campfire. To actually be here felt like she was back in Asgard, except Sif wasn't with her. She had been back at Xavier's for awhile now...would she be strong enough to defeat whatever came next?

"Can your fireworks explode rock?" she said, glancing over to Jubilee.

"Cause I think we might have company soon."

“Yeah, but if it goes on too long you’re gonna have to carry me out.” Jubilee replied, calculating how much reserves she had in body fat vs how much quick energy she had squirreled about her various pockets. It would be enough to keep her going for at least an hour but that was calculating on smaller opponents and not the guy in the chair. If he got up, and decided to join the party she’d not last anywhere near that length of time. “How are you at taking on big baddies?”

Molly rolled her shoulders, stretching a little. "For awhile. But when I get really tired I need caffeine or I pass out," she said, making a face.

"So let's make sure we like....beat things up really fast. Okay?"

"Sure, Mols," Jubilee replied, cracking the muscles in her neck with a quick side to side movement as she grew two thick sparks in her hands. She started forming them into what would eventually lengthen into multi-color whips, the 'handles' a few inches above her palms. "You take the horde on the left, I'll take the horde on the right."

The golems came down the hill slowly but inexorably, like a landslide moving in slow motion. They moved in legion, swinging stony arms in tremendous strikes as they closed.

Molly eyed the golems, a slow smile spreading across her face. Just because she was afraid, totally didn't mean she couldn't have fun punching things. All she had to do was think about that. It was just like being in the quarry back at the mansion, except the quarry moved, and tried to fight back.

"Let's do it," she said, cracking her knuckles.

As they grew closer, she started to back up a little, continuing to widen the distance. Then, after a few yards, she took off running, and kicked off of a nearby rock, diving into the crowd.

"Cannonball!" she said as she got to punching.

Jubilee for her part was much less melee based in her attack, and much more 'keep as much distance as you can until you can't'

She whipped her ropes of plasma out, using them as lines of force to bash against the rock golems, breaking pieces of the monsters off in an attempt to incapacitate them to the point they were no longer a threat.

As shards of rock turned into clouds of dust, they kept coming forward, lashing at them with broken limbs and shards of stone.

Molly grabbed one of the dislocated arms of a golem and used it like a baseball to smash one of the heads off, then kicked out one of their legs so that it was left with only one leg to stand on. She then spun around and yanked one entirely off its feet, then used it to barrel two or three of them at a time, like bowling.

"This is AWESOME!" she shouted.

"Glad you're enjoying your job, Mols," Jubilee shouted back, whipping her two lines of plasma out to take out the legs of the golem headed straight toward her position. She looked around for a way to get higher, maybe find a better vantage point for the battle. "I think we maybe need to do this a little faster."

She'd noticed the golems behind the ones they'd already killed, if they were going to get through all of them before they ran out of puff, they needed the ratchet up the destruction just a tad. She'd give her left arm for some explosives right now.

Molly punched one of the golems so hard that her fist burst through it's face and into the face of one behind it.

"How are we gonna do that?" she said.

"And it's Bruiser! Cause...codenames, and stuff?"

"I don't think these guys care, Bruiser."

Jubilee slashed her plasma whips at another two of the creatures, grappling them before reversing the pull to smash the two together. She looked around, trying to think of a solution to their 'avalanche of bad guys' problem. Maybe they were overthinking this, maybe it wasn't about outlasting them, but simply about bringing the shock and awe, so to speak.

"If you can keep them off me for a bit, I can probably build a plasma bomb big enough to take out the rest of these guys."
