After wandering and food and more wandering, the girls try to find a place to rest.
Walking by one of the exterior windows, Clea looked out to the landscape. The large moon was moving and Clea could only imagine that they had been there for almost a full day. "Should we look for a place to rest?" They had only stopped for a kitchen break, grabbing what food they could, before moving again. It seemed safer inside the castle as they had seen weird shapes standing guard outside. Even if they were still playing hide and seek with Orini. "I don't think I've actually slept in two days."
Considering she had almost fallen asleep during magic class earlier in the week, Topaz had a feeling it was more than two days. "Yeah," she said, casting her mind around to make sure they were truly alone in the area. "I think we're safe here. Pick a room, any room."
Turning her attention to the hallway of either broken doors, closed doors, or no doors. She walked by one of the slight ajar doors but she stopped and stepped back. Something tugged at her and it wasn't threatening at all. Not like what she felt when she was around Orini. She gentle opened it to reveal what appeared to be an old baby's room. "Woah."
The room clearly hadn't been touched in years. There was a fine layer of dust on everything, and Topaz accidentally kicked some up when she stepped in. "Better than nothing," she said after a moment. They had no idea what any of the other rooms had, after all.
She walked over to the crib and picked up a blanket meant for a baby. "I think we will be safe here. I mean, I feel safe here." She coughed at some of the dust before grabbing the mattress and moved it to a corner. "Maybe we can barricade ourselves in..." She moved over to another window and saw it lead to a balcony. "If anything comes through the door, we can make an escape to another room from there." Clea began to move one of the heavier pieces to the door.
Topaz peeked out the window, making a small noise. "Let's hope it doesn't come to that." She waved a hand, gathering up as much magic as she could. She was burning through her energy fast and trying hard not to think about what that would mean later. Barriers formed at each end of the hall, which would, hopefully, give them enough warning if someone came by.
During the rearranging of furniture, Clea found several more old blankets and walked over to the mattress and started to make it more comfortable. After a few more minutes of silence, Clea collapsed onto the nest and checked out her arm before holding it close to her. It was throbbing again and it was that pain that made her acutely aware that she was still not dreaming. This nursery was giving her a sense of calmness and she felt her eye lids getting heavier. "Topaz?"
Topaz settled beside the bed, watching the door closely. She was tired, but Clea was worse, and someone had to stand guard. "Yeah?" She said quietly.
"It is okay to sleep." She handed the other girl a blanket and closed her eyes, "Even if it just for a little while."
Topaz considered the blanket for a moment, then sighed, taking it and leaning over, resting her head on the end of the mattress. "Yeah, we have the barriers. That'll be fine."
"Yea, and he won't find us. I don't know how I know...I just know." Her voice started to trail off as she cuddled more into the blanket.
"Always trust your instinct." Topaz yawned. "Number one rule."
"Mmhmm." Was the only response to Topaz before the steady breathing of the teenager drifting off to a dreamless sleep.
Topaz blew out a long breath, closing her eyes. They just needed to stay alive a little bit longer. It would be fine.
