Dark Dimension: Catching Their Breath

xp_logsThe rescue team escapes into the castle, and a few try to figure out what to do next.
Their footsteps echoed across the stone ground as they made their way into the castle. Jean glanced around.
"I think we're safe here, for now. Those things don't seem to be following," she said. She pulled out a flashlight from her medkit and flicked it on, keeping it low. "We didn't take out nearly enough of them to make even a dent. Even if they don't come inside they'll probably surround the castle and make it hard for us to get out. We need to figure out a plan."
"This place is too bloody big for a fast search," Amanda added. The witch was covered in splattered goo from the fight, but she didn't seem to notice. "I hate to suggest this when it's the wrong thing to do in every horror movie, but I think we're going to have to split up."
"And then what? It is also too big to easily meet back up, and most of us are not telepathic." Marie-Ange asked. "If we do this, we balance groups. Only two groups, and both must have a psi. We will need to keep in touch somehow, even if it is difficult."
"Too bad we only have one of those," Amanda pointed out. "Stephen, Megan or I could do a location spell so we can meet up again, but staying in touch is going to be tricky."
Stephen tilted his head to the side, his eyes fixed on the flashlight in Jean's hands as thoughts went whirling around his head, "Hey...does anyone know Morse code?" He pointed at the light, "I bet we could do that."
Jean paused. "What about the communicators?" she said, holding up her own communicator as an example for the one each of them should've been issued. "Have we...actually tested them?"
"Yes, they require cellular towers or satellites to bounce off of." Marie-Ange said, carefully. She did not entirely understand how the communicators worked, just that all their technical types had mentioned cellular towers and space and bouncing. "We are stalling and need to split up, Amanda is right. I hate it. Even without two telepaths." She huffed a bit. "I think Jean with Amanda and I will take Mr. Keller. Even if he is not a telepath, he is a better receiver than I am."
Amanda nodded, not daring to see Jean's reaction to that suggestion. "Take Logan as well?" she suggested. "His super-senses might come in handy." She glanced at the X-Man in confirmation. "And Stephen - you'll need a magic user."
Stephen nodded, quietly pacing over to stand next to Jean as his eyes flicked up to Amanda's face, "I can do that," he acknowledged softly as his eyes slid away towards the castle.
Logan nodded in confirmation and moved closer to Marie-Ange. "If what we just came through is any indication, we're gonna need to be balanaced as possible to make sure we all make it back in one piece." He rubbed at his knuckles to get rid of some of the residual goop that had caught on his hands.
Jean narrowed her eyes and looked like she was going to speak when they told Amanda to go with her but she chose to remain silent, folding her arms tightly. She was still a professional.
The distant, distant sound of a voice broke through anymore chatter. It wasn't... necessarily unfriendly sounding, although to the untrained ear of someone who had never met the speaker, they would say she sounded downright mean. The British lilt and slight undertone of sarcasm would be familiar to anyone in the group, however, even if it was impossible to tell which direction it was coming from.
Amanda's head whipped around at the sound of it. "That's Topaz," she stated without any trace of doubt. "We need to move. Now."
"Jubilee, Artie, with me, the rest with Amanda." Marie-Ange said. "We meet back here if we find anyone." or anything, she was not going to speak out loud the possibilities. "And check in if we can, on the hour."
