Tandy meets up with Garrison for a debrief and it ends in them drinking into the night on Friday Night.

Tandy was told to report to the lower levels for assessment - whatever that meant. Just the other day she had asked Scott if she could join the X-Men, which of course led to a fight with Julian who was now staying in New York. She wasn't going to let a fight stop her from doing what she felt was right.

She had the power and the abilities to do more and if you said it was because she missed her life in Asgard as an adventurer, you wouldn't be wrong.

Upon entering the lower sub-levels of the Mansion she waited in the predetermined area. Tandy had a pretty good idea who she might be meeting and was waiting to hear his thoughts on her joining.

Kane opened the door and walked in. "Is there a reason we're meeting in the Danger Room for a team discussion... fucking Summers was being dramatic again." He rolled his eyes and motioned her to follow him. "I swear that guy gets off on putting the fear of god into newbies. I shutter to think what happens when Kitty finds out he gets hard designing no win DR simulations." Kane said over his shoulder, walking her into the ops room. With a mission ready, it would be screens full of information surrounding a complex metal 3D model of the arrival site. But now, it was a room with a big metal table in the middle.

Tandy followed Mr. K, "No win room danger room simulations?" Looking around the room and her eyes focused on the metal table. "Don't tell me those were easy courses for the GenX...I kind of feel cheated now."

"My simulations are designed to scale to your abilities. He wants to kill you with a T-Rex." Garrison said as he dropped into a chair. "So, you're looking at the X-Men now?"

"He isn't very realistic, is he?" Tandy asked not knowing better. "That I am. There was other possible options but I think my skills are more catered to being on the front lines in defense."

"Ya get your kicks where you can in this job." Kane said, flipping open a folder he'd been carrying. "Well, your DR work has been solid. Powers fit an offensive profile. And you've got that whole 'trained in that horrible Asgard place that we're going to be nice to Mr. Kane about and not discuss at all. Ever'. So, short answer is that if you want to come on as a trainee, you can pretty much start immediately. There's a number of DR sessions you need to pass before you're cleared for field ready status, as well as a lot of team training. Usually stage one involves running comms in the field and guarding the plane until you're fully up to speed on team tactics and procedures."

Tandy nodded at what Mr. K was saying to her and made a note never to mention Asgard to him. Everything else sound achievable, even if watching the plane sounded kind of boring. But if it was only for trainee purposes she would only have to be doing that for a short while. Or so she hoped. "I agree to all the terms you have laid out." Training in the DR, running coms, team training, yes, that is something she was hoping for. "I want to do this, Mr. K. And I want to start immediately."

"You sure? Look, Tandy, joking aside. X-Men have died doing what they thought was the right thing. This isn't a small decision and if could cost you your business and property if you got outed."

Tandy took a few seconds of silence, "I wouldn't be complete if I wasn't doing the right thing. And I am aware of what I am giving up if I am outed." Looking over at Garrison, "And this isn't something I woke up one more and thought, 'Hey, joining the X-Men sounds like a pretty good idea.' I know what the cost is of being part of the team." She thought of Julian and all of the post missions talks she had with him.

"Yeah? Without this team, Julian might have hands. Adrienne might be here right now. Without me- the X-Men, I mean. You are opening yourself up to a much more dangerous world which you don't necessarily understand how you'll pay the price for."

"I'm not going to change my mind. I understand that you have to go through the list of things that could and probably will happen when someone says they would like to join. But I am not going to change my mind."

"I wish you'd say something different." Kane said a shake of his head. "Last chance. Are you sure?"

"Wishing is for dreamers. I am more of do-er." Tandy nodded in response of his question, "Yes sir."

"Alright. And it's Garrison, not sir. When I pull you over for speeding, it's sir." Kane leaned back in his chair, regarding her.

Tandy had never called Garrison by his first name before, this will be interesting. "When do we start?"

"Soon. Technically, we could start right now, but it's likely better to send you to the Medlab for a full physical, get a proper suit for you fabricated, update your status and access to resources in the mansion and work out a schedule that fits with your before we get started. A few extra days also gives you a chance to talk to some of the team members, find out their experience and let them know your plans." Kane said.

"Sounds like a plan." Tandy nodded as she went through the list of things he just said she had to take. "I look forward to it."

"Good. Well, there's a tradition that didn't exist until I made it up that we celebrate new recruits by getting them wicked drunk at Harrys."

"You should know me by know that my seconardy powers don't allow me to get drunk. But I won't mind trying." It wouldn't be the first time she would had shared a drink or two with him.

Kane rolled his eyes. "Now I know why Adrienne hated coming out with us. She'd be drunk enough to contemplate chicken wings for the first time in a decade and we'd be cold sober."

"And we wouldn't stop her. Chicken wings are the best." Tandy played with a necklace given to her by Adrienne, "But I wouldn't mind beer and chicken wings."

"She was vegetarian. We were mean." Kane shock his head and got up and waved her to follow. It didn't take long to quit the mansion and make their way along the path to Harry's. Garrison wasn't very talkative, but since Adrienne had been locked into her coma, the normally congenial Canadian had retreated back into a defensive shell. They found seats near the bar and drinks appeared unbidden. The advantage of a regular, Kane had said before.

Tandy took a seat and a beer was placed in front of her. "How are you doing?" No more x-men talk, just friends having a drink.

"Depends where you want to set the bar. Against the possibility that I could currently be on fire, I'm not bad, considering. Against the idea that there is joy and hope in life, not so much." He deadpanned.

"Bar somewhere in the middle. Being on fire is always a good thing." Tandy took a sip of her beer and looked down at the foam. "I would say something along the things could be worse but I don't want to jinx anything." She quickly knocked on wood.

"Yeah, saying 'it could be worse' is grounds for dismissal from the X-Men." While Tandy sipped her drink, Kane casually drained his pint and waved for another as he set the empty glass on the bar. "So, uh, how's your uncle doing?"

"Dismissed before I had my first training session. Might be a new record." She looked at the second glass being delivered to the table, "He is doing fine. Busy as always. It seems that soup kitchen is busier than usual. I hope the food bank will help with the shortage he tends to have towards the end of the week. He does appreciate the volunteers and said you are always welcomed."

"I appreciate that. I don't have as much time as I like but... well, it's good to help out. Thank him for me."

"Understandable and I will." She took a long sip from her drink, finishing more than half before sitting it back down. "It is weird. Drinking when you can't get drunk. It is unfair if you think about it. Sure it has its pros, but then you can't blame that you were drunk for bad decisions."

"Depends what your goal for drinking is. If it is just to get drunk, there are more effective ways to get fucked up.' Kane motioned at the bar. "I could just sit in my room, down a couple bottles of Jack back to back and overwhelm my endurance to get stinking oblivious for a few hours. But I don't know where that leads to. At least here, I can be miserable without ruining anyone else's good time and I'm in a place that if I need to get outside my own head for awhile, striking up a random conversation is available, if not encouraged."

"I see your point. Being around other people is good." She looked down at her almost finished her drink. "If you ever need a drinking buddy, you got my number."

"Kid, you don't just start at the Major Leagues. You need many more unfortunately experiences with Zima and shots before you reach drinking buddy level. Also, a significant upgrade in your hockey knowledge would help."

"Looks like I have homework to do. Hockey, really? I've learned all I could about baseball, but now hockey?" Tandy finished the rest of her drink. "And I am not a kid. I am 26."
