After their first fight with the bear, Miles, Nica, and Clea find themselves somehow separated from the others

"I don't have cell service." Clea looked up with the surprised look on the face. "Where are the others?" After that creature attacked them, Clea was going to text Amanda, she only looked away for a moment and now more than half their party was missing.

Miles looked up from his own dead phone and followed Clea's gaze. His head buzzed, quietly compared to just a few minutes ago, more like the continual low-level danger warning from the three days he had recently spent in Limbo. Crap, if he was stuck there again . . . "Don't think we're in Bayville," he concluded, putting the pieces together. "Or, like, it's some side space."

"Again?" Nica sounded annoyed. "What is it with this place and other dimensions? We're not with those creepy Slender things again are we?"

"No. I hope not." Putting her phone into her back pocket and adjusted her backpack. Clea hesitated for a moment, "This morning the school was vandalized and that is when all this weird shite started to happen." Looking around, "I am not sure if we should move or stay put. Thoughts?"

Miles looked around. It looked like the hallway, but everything was grey, stripped of color, like a crude pencil drawing of the school. It was disturbingly silent, too. None of the normal after-school sounds, like students running to their club meetings or cars pulling in and out of the pick-up lot. "Kinda reminds me of the Fade," he said, "Like, from Dragon Age? Or the Upside Down. Like, we're here but we're also not."

"Wherever we are, we're stuck, at least for now." Nica glanced around, before folding her arms across her chest. "We're the oldest, except for Xavin - we probably should find the others before trying to find a way out of here."

Clea closed her eyes, trying to reach out to the magic of this place. It was...different. "Let's move forward. I have a feeling that we shouldn't linger." She said as she opened her eyes. No sooner had she taken a step forward, the sounds of an angry bear echoed down the hall.

On instinct, Miles stepped in front of the two others to shield them and draw the beast's attention to himself. "Maybe go the other way," he suggested. "Away from bear. Far far away from bear."

"No need to protect me, hero," quipped Nica as she transformed into light. Somehow her brightness only made their surroundings seem dimmer and less defined. "But I agree. Away from the bear would be a damn good idea. Let's go!" And she turned to fly down the hallway leading away from the sound.

"But what if the others are there?" Clea asked but she didn't want to be left alone. Clea closed the distance between them and stayed closed. She couldn't help but having the feeling of dread with each step they took.

Further down the direction they were going, the sounds of claws on the floor got closer before rounding the corner near the floating light. The bear roared loudly at the intruders before standing its two hind legs and took a swipe at it.

"Yikes!" Nica paused in mid-flight as the bear's claws raked through her aura. Anything else she was about to say was cut off when another swipe actually connected and sent her flying back towards the other two. She landed heavily, her light form winking out immediately, and she groaned as she sat up. "What gives? I was ghosting, there was no way that thing should have hit me."

"Nica!" Miles's spider-sense nearly sent him to his knees, it was blaring in his head so loudly. He forced it back, refocusing his attention on the threat before them. Part of him knew he should not lunge forward and try to take it on one-on-one. It was a dangerously stupid move, but what was Spider-Man if not a champion of dangerous stupidity? He landed a punch solidly on the bear's belly with enough force to bust through a brick wall. The bear barely reacted. "Aw, hell no."

When his vision cleared a moment later, he found himself on the floor next to Nica. "Sooooo, come here often?"

"Ha-ha," she replied drily. "What the fuck is that thing? I'd ask if it was even real, but it definitely hits like something real."

Clea stepped in as she made hand movements as flames emerged from her hands before sending it flying towards the bear. The smell of burnt bear fur filled the air within seconds of the flame hitting its target. "Hey Bear! leave them alone!"

If the sight of a giant bear on fire wasn't daunting, Nica would have laughed at Clea's 'warcry'. "Well, that worked at least," she grunted, pushing herself to her feet. "Looks like we have a magic bear issue. Who's been making bears in magic class?"

There was no time to respond as the bear recovered, roaring its pain and fury as it advanced on them again. Reflexively, Nica raised her hands and blasted pure light at it, hoping to blind it, and discovering that it actually seemed to work - the creature flinched back as if afraid. "Whoo!"

Fire and light were at least somewhat effective. Miles climbed back to his feet and launched himself at the bear again. He slid between its legs, slapping its feet as he moved, and rolled back to his own feet when he got in the clear. Nothing happened for three tense seconds, and then lightning struck. The bear roared and turned to face Miles. He could not understand bear, but he was pretty sure he understood "I will eat you." Miles flexed his fingers, electricity dancing on his fingertips. "Just try, you overgrown flea trap," he taunted.

Clea sent another one of her flames at the bear as it was distracted by Miles now. It roared again as the flames singed its coat. Instead of attacking it looked like it was looking for an opening to escape as it turned and headed towards Nica.

Nica wasn't about to get swiped at again. Instead, as the bear charged towards her, she 'ghosted' and dropped through the floor until it had passed. "Go find some nice woods to poop in!" she called after it, resurfacing from the floor and dusting herself of. "Ugh. Worst birthday ever."

When he was satisfied the coast was clear, Miles gestured in the opposite direction from which the bear had fled. "At least if we fought it just now, it wasn't trying to eat the others," he panted, grateful for even that little bit. He was more than happy to play the bait. "Back to original plan. Far far away from Teddy. Find Xavin and everyone. Get out. Then never celebrate your birthday ever again."
