Rogue comes across Jean-Paul attempting to sort out his classes for the coming semester and strikes up a conversation.

Summer was finally here. It had taken Rogue a ridiculously long time (and really, she had no excuse since she didn't have a job) to finally finish her classes, but her last assignment was submitted and now ...she waited. It had been a long time coming, getting her Master's in education counseling, but it was worth it. She'd already applied for the school counselor job at Bayville, but she found she missed studying. Her first real week off of school, and all she wanted to do was read.

Heading to the library, she looked around and sighed. Unless she decided to get her Doctorate, she was kind of finished with school for a while. Strange feeling, when she'd dedicated so much of her time to it. Walking over to the stacks, she poked around but didn't really know what she was looking for. Going near JP, she excused herself as she went behind his chair and in the process, happened to glance at what he was looking at. Of course. College course catalogues.

"Ya going back to school?"

"Oui. I have been away from it for a very long time," Jean-Paul said, glancing up at the woman. They didn't know one another well, having only met in passing. She spoke with an accent much different from the others at the mansion, but then so did he. "Traveling." In fact, after all his conversations with Topaz about photography and the options something like that might afford him that English Literature simply couldn't, he'd decided it would be worthwhile to actually see if his university of choice offered the sorts of academic programs he would need in order to make a career of it.

Of course they did. It was just a matter of sorting through everything now -- and starting over. It wasn't as though anything but his general educational requirements would matter, after all. Nothing from English Literature would be applicable to Art or Photography specifically.

And since Rogue was nosy, she took a better look before exclaiming. "Oh wow, Photography?" She put her hands on her hips and smiled. "Has there been a fellow artist living under this roof the whole time and I never knew? Well ain't that dumb! You know I converted the boat house a while ago to a studio right? I mean, I just dabble in photography but I added a dark room ages ago." She was excited. "Anyone's welcome to use it! I'm usually by myself in there. I'm more fine arts, lots of paintin' and sketchin' but you're always welcome."

"I did not know this, no," Jean-Paul replied. "And I have only recently become interested in photography, while I was away. It is all digital, what I have done. I have no real knowledge of it. Which is why..." He gestured toward the course books laid out in front of him. One was open to the specific requirements for a major in Art with a focus in Photography while several other, identical course books were opened to the classes listed under the major. He had a notebook open on the table, notes made about which classes he needed to start off with.

"I really struggled with getting my bachelor's. Couldn't figure out if I wanted psychology or fine arts. Ended up going the psych route, and then a Master's in art therapy. Combined the both." She glanced at the books and nodded approvingly. "I mean, it really depends on what you're studying for. Is it just for you? Do you wanna teach? Where do you see yourself after graduation?"

"For myself only," Jean-Paul said, frowning at the woman. She was very... interested. "And I do not know. I am only now choosing classes. I think there are things to be done, submitted to magazines and the like."

She nodded. "Sorry," she apologized, "I'm super nosy, and like I said, it's part of the psych degree. Just catch myself chatting away. Want me to leave ya in peace?"

Shrugging, Jean-Paul said, "It is not so much a problem, I think. You have experience with these things. It could be helpful to be able to ask questions. Since it is only the art courses I must take now... do you have suggestions for what to take? There are many introductory classes, but I am not so sure of what to do with them all."

"Like I said," Rogue answered, sitting down next to Jean-Paul. "It really depends on what ya wanna do with it. Intro classes are just that -- intros. They just brush the surface to see if it's something ya wanna do, or not. Easy credits, mind you, and usually pretty fun. Like if you've ever wondered if you're a carver at heart, take a more practical arts class than I dunno, art history."

"Oui," Jean-Paul said, nodding. That seemed obvious enough. "To develop the basics of understanding art. I think I would like to still take as many photography classes as I can. There are several to choose from."

"Just remember: with those kinds of classes, a lot of the work is practical, so you're going to be coming up with portfolios like crazy. You don't wanna over-extend yourself. One time, I thought I wanted like all the sketching classes ..." She gave a laugh. "I thought my hand was gonna fall off from all the work I needed to do! And then there was the lab time too, and all those naked people...." She rolled her eyes. "Anyways, going back to school is fun and all, but you're only human too!"

Nodding again, Jean-Paul considered the many open course books in front of him. "To take photography, I should know other kinds of art. But I do not wish to focus overmuch on those things. Illustration, for instance. I am not so good with drawing."

Rogue smiled. "Well, it sounds like you have a really good idea of what you're going to do. I wish you the best, and like I said -- you're welcome at the boathouse anytime you want, sugar!"
