Day 1 of Alex being boss at XFI. Sue thinks his rules are common sense. Warren ignores them all.
Alex walked into the office, yawning and rolling his shoulders. He had early duty that day, and was far too envious of Lorna for getting to sleep in. He paused, staring at the whiteboard and raising an eyebrow when he saw the blank space. "Oooooookay so we're doing this," he muttered, walking over and grabbing a marker. He twiddled it between his fingers, tilting his head for a moment before he began writing.
1) Be nice to each other. First person to insult someone else buys the office lunch.
2) Work with someone you wouldn't normally work with. I'll assign partners if need be.
3) Casual Friday - clothing is still required
"You're seriously going with something that's mostly just common sense, I figured the first day would involve something like wacky disguises or musical chairs or something Summers," a small smile touched Sue's lips as she rested her shoulder on the door jamb, fingers wrapped around a cardboard coffee cup clutched in her hands. "So question...can we put Quentin working with Maya, cause then one of them gets to buy lunch."
"Common sense, and yet we work with Quentin and Maya." Alex grinned. "Plus, we get free lunch all week. Can't hate on that. But if you want musical chairs, that can be arranged. And why do you think I made that rule? Of course those two are working together."
Sue held up a hand, placing it over her heart as she staggerd backwards. "A hit, a palpable hit," she allowed with a grin, "I'm never going to say no to a free lunch...as long as it's not from the hot dog stand down the road. I don't even know how it's possible to mess up a hotdog the way he does." Taking a sip from her coffee Sue let her blue eyes rest of Alex, a twinkle of amusement in the orbs, "You know, I never knew you had such a sneaky streak in you, you always seemed like such a sweet Summer-child."
"You don't grow up in this cold, cold world without learning how to be sneaky," Alex replied with a wink, smirking. "I'm just better at hiding my dark side than some people."
"Cold cold world?" Sue couldn't help the laugh that spilt out of her mouth in surprise, "Didn't you spend the last little bit in California? How exactly is that the cold cold world? I mean that's hardly the coldest place you could be."
"Metaphorical cold, Storm. Metaphorical." Alex nodded sagely, then grinned. "So, taking bets. Who do you think will break first, Quentin or Maya?"
"Now these are the truly important questions that we stay up at night pondering," The blonde strokled her chin as if in deep thought, "I'm gonna go with Quentin, he's around here a lot more than Maya, but whicherver of them breaks, we still come out ahead."
Although Warren had basically abdicated any and all managerial decisions, he was still there. Barely. He was currently reading a comic book, feet up on someone's desk, as he enjoyed his time off. "You're both wrong," he called out, not looking up from his book. "I'm insulting everyone today, but I don't work here right now so I'm exempt." As if to prove his point, he flipped them both the bird. "See? I lose and win at the same time."
Alex tilted his head, looking around in curiosity, purposely not looking at Warren. "Sue, do you hear something? I swear I heard Warren's voice, but rumor has it he died during sex while a woman choked him."
"One? I heard it was two of them, a tag team, and that he was so exhausted after he flew off to get a coffee...and was never heard from again," Sue responded in a mock whisper as an amused smile played across her lips.
"Those damn tabloids never get it right." Alex sighed, shaking his head. "Well, let's get to work. I'm sure dear Warren's only wish would be for us to continue on in his memory. And take his credit cards."
"Alas, the only way to truly live his life is to do as he did and try to max out every card he has," Sue agreed with an innocent look on her face, "It won't be easy, but if we all get first class round the world tours, staying in the penthouses of the best hotels, I'm sure he'd see that as a worthwhile celebration."
"You guys suck," Warren said, tossing his book to the side. "The only one who deserves that is me." A pause. "And maybe Bobbi." Today they were back on. He actually looked like he was debating that.
Alex watched the flying book with a thoughtful frown. "You know, Sue, we might need to get an exorcist in here. It would seem Warren's come back as a poltergeist."
"You know, I bet Tandy's uncle knows someone, and we could probably get away with claiming it as a business expense. Besides, we've already been haunted once by Quentin," Sue winked at Alex, "we might wanna get some kinda protections put it, you know, just in case."
"Might be a good idea," Alex agreed, nodding. "I'll get Maya on that when she comes in."
