Bobbi may be surprised, but no one is more surprised with Warren at finally saying those words
Was there anything better than a private, midnight soak with his main girl? Although Warren hated getting wet (it was such a pain to dry off his wings), he enjoyed the steam on his face, the gentle cool wind wafting around ...
"Tomorrow night .... tonight... it's tomorrow right? No, I mean tomorrow TOMORROW," Warren laughed and shook his head. "Anyways. Long way to fly for a short time, but oh well. Have you enjoyed the trip?"
"Mmm, I have," she replied, readjusting herself in the tub. It was at that just right temperature, hot enough to put you on the verge of sweating, but not too hot to make you want to get out. That coupled with the nice breeze, it was almost perfection. Bobbi lowered her hands under the water for a few moments, then extracted them, leaning both arms out on the edge of the tub.
"Very... freeing." In one of her hands she wagged the fabric of her bikini top, which she'd just liberated herself from underneath the water.
He raised an eyebrow and grinned, taking the top from her hand. "A private show too? It's like my birthday, Christmas, and other random holiday, all rolled into one." Throwing caution in the wind, he lowered himself deeper into the water and moved closer to her, pulling her into his arms. "You are amazing, Bobbi. I don't know that I tell you this enough, or remind myself of it really. But it's true. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I don't know how I would've gotten through the last two years without you. I can't picture my life without you in it."
"Keep going," she joked, easing into his embrace and perhaps blushing just a smidge. "In all seriousness, though... it's been a rough patch for the last little while," Bobbi started, lifting Warren's arms long enough for her to turn around, back on to him, then hugging his arms around her once again as she leaned back. "But I'm glad we've both stuck with it, because I can't picture my life without you in it either." She didn't mean to just echo everything back at him, but it was true that she felt the same way.
He nuzzled his head into her hair, smelling that familiar scent of her shampoo. It was these little things that made him feel so happy. The fact that he had this familiarity with her, that he just knew all these little nuances..how she liked her coffee, the movies she enjoyed, the little noises and faces she made at that silly little dog .... tightening his hold around her waist, he brushed a line of kisses down her nape. "God Bobbi, I love you so much..."
"I..." Bobbi started, before her brain processed what he'd just said. What Warren had just said. Warren.
She pulled back enough to turn her head and look him in the eyes. Because, yeah, that had been pretty damn huge right there. "I love you too, Warren," she replied, meaning it. It had been the first time he'd ever said so aloud, and while she was pretty sure she knew where she stood with him, Bobbi was surprised to hear him say as much. Pleasantly surprised, to be sure, but surprised nonetheless.
He stiffened out of habit before realizing she was just saying it back. Looking at her in wonder, he brought his hands up to cup her face. "I actually said that out loud didn't I," he asked, not really expecting an answer. After having basically admitted to Felicia and Sue at various points how strongly he felt for Bobbi, he'd never actually said it, never voiced those words to anyone in his life before. Probably not even his parents, if he was honest. And yet here he was. "And I mean it. I really do. Bobbi. You've shown me so many times that I can be better than what I am...." His breath hitched a little. "Yeah. I love you. And I'm going to say it now. Because it's the truth and you deserve to hear it."
"Hey, I'm not gonna stop you," she replied with a smile, leaning in for another kiss. Especially not after everything they'd been through recently. Bobbi would never go so far as to think she deserved it, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't enjoy hearing it. "You can keep saying it as much as you want, promise."
Warren smiled, his eyes crinkling as he leaned down to give her another kiss. It was like suddenly he couldn't get enough of her. "You say that now," he teased, "but we'll see in another couple of years." He ignored the niggling voice at the back of his head that this was just the beginning of the end.
