As promised, Garrison runs Maya through a Danger Room session based around extreme sports.

Maya bounced from foot to foot as she waited outside the control booth to the Danger Room, almost unable to contain herself as she waited for Garrison to arrive. She was pretty sure she'd broken some sort of land speed record getting changed into her Xavier issued training suit, although that may have just been the fact she hadn't been this excited since she'd been given her first motor bike training ride.

"Maya. This is God, Maya." Kane's voice suddenly boomed out of the hidden speakers as she saw him take a seat in the control booth. "So what's your pleasure? Sky-diving, base jumping, suit gliding?"

"I'm pretty sure God has a better beard, but suit gliding please. You got a demonstration for me first?"

"You've been in the DR before. First thing it will simulate is the suit. Once you're comfortable with it, ask for the tutorial and it will have a virtual guide take you through the basics before your first run. I'm keeping the limiters pretty high, so don't expect the extreme runs right off the bat. But, you prove you've got it and I'll start taking the restrictions off."

"Fair enough. Do I get to choose the suit colors?"

Maya made her way to the Danger Room entrance and punched in her personal code, it didn't work without an adult present in the control booth given that she was 1. Still a minor and 2. Not part of the X-men. But considering Garrison was right there, the door opened without any trouble. Of course, given the bitching she sometimes heard from Doug about people forgetting their passwords, she was glad she had an eidetic memory. Wade might be off who knew where the hell but she liked to make sure the people he cared about were doing okay, even from a distance.

"Unless you piss me off. If you do, you're flying in plaid. Violent plaid." He said, double-checking the specs. The DR's safety protocols were expansive but he wanted to be sure.

"There's a joke in there somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's along the lines of 'Hi, I'm Maya, have we met?'."

Maya walked past the door and allowed the room to scan her, pushing her arms out to her side as it did so. The room had her measurements and more besides in it's database but the minute changes in body mass and makeup over time meant a preliminary surface scan any time a user entered the room was just common sense and a good safety measure besides.

"Plaid it is." The DR finished the scan and began to build the initial suit. The room used solid light technology to fuel the holograms, which provided a huge level of realism. The suit would support her weight and interact fully with the simulation.

"Now you'll never know whether I was actually going to choose plaid anyway. Maybe I have Scottish ancestry and I'm just really into heather mixture." Maya let the hologram build around her, ignoring the slight twitchiness that always happened while she was waiting for it to complete. It wasn't that she couldn't be still, that was easy, it was the feeling of weight settling against her skin, even when it was only light. "Where am I gliding today?"

"Once you finish the tutorial, you get a range of choices. Some of them real, some from movies and fiction. Or you can choose ones made by bored people manning the DR. The Valley of Dicks is a personal triumph."

"I'm too afraid to ask whether that's an entire valley made from realistic penii...penises? Or did you just decided to make a whole bunch of National Monuments all in a row?"

Maya sighed in relief as the suit finished forming, jumping up and down a few times and stretching out like she would before a dance performance. You could never be too ready for this sort of thing, especially since people liked to throw in 'training moments' in even the most benign of simulations.

"It looks like a coral reef, all drifting lazily in the wind." He reminded himself she was a minor but was pretty sure she'd seen worst years ago on the internet. "I'm loading the tutorial now. It's got no obstacles. Just meant to get you used to the suit."

“I can almost sense the therapy session with Haller about how the Moose-like Canadian traumatized my seventeen year old mind with his penis reef. I’m sure there’ll be sobbing and possibly vows to never see a boy naked.”

Maya closed her eyes for the next part. No matter how many times she’d done this, the way the room grew scenery around her always made her feel like throwing up. Something about the fact that her deafness combined with her power made her balance and sense of place go haywire.

"In my defense, Marie did say she wanted something special for her birthday." Kane said as the room shifted into a mountainous scene, where Maya was standing on top of a spur of rock. In the distance, a unrealistically bright yellow circle was laid out. In reality, she was still standing on the floor, but once she jumped forward, a complex array of repulsors and blowers with hold her up and simulate her flight and acceleration towards the target.

"OK, so once you kick off spread your arms and legs like you are doing a jumping jack. You'll be able to hear the tutorial in your ear and it will ghost images in front of you with the instructions. All you need to do is hit the target at the end of the run."

***

Maya landed safely on the target, listening to the last few instructions from the tutorial. The science people had managed to rig something that interfaced directly with her implant to make the speech clearer in training sessions, there'd been a lot of big words and some serious geeking out that she'd not payed a great deal of attention to.

"That...was amazing. Heck, I was amazing. I think my powers finally kicked in there at the end, deliberately rather than just 'being' there even."

"Hmm? Oh yeah, you nailed it." To be honest, Garrison had been reading a couple of Leafs articles he hadn't been able to get to yet during her run. This wasn't a training mission and watching extreme sports was pretty dull. He flipped on the playback for a second. "Bit of a wobble but for a first run, that's impressive. I'm going to change your authorization. so you can run the program on the easy level on your own. Anything more advanced and you'll need to have someone DR Ops cleared in the booth. At least for now."

"Awesome. Um, does this have a two person mode? I mean, it can't be a lot of fun just watching me up there."

"My life is an extreme sport. I don't need to try others. Besides, my level of enhanced abilities, it goes by slow as opposed to exciting."

“How do you ever have any fun if all the cool stuff is so slow?”

Maya bounced on her heals a bit, ready to stop talking and start something new. But you had to be polite, or so her therapist told her.

"I find other things fun. Jumping out of airplanes or scaling mountains is for one type of person. That is not me. I do those things when I have to for the job. Fun is watching a Leafs game while drinking a pint at Harry's. It's going out to dinner with my girlfriend. And sometimes it is beating three kinds of hell out of the very best that the Danger Room can throw at me. Which is significantly faster than throwing yourself into the air in a wingsuit. Tell you what, you can do a couple more easy runs if you want, But when you're done, you can access the DR playback function through our network. Take a look at my standard training simulation. Then tell me if I'm missing the 'cool stuff'." Kane said as he got up, entered in the commands to lock out the rest of the system and headed out.

She'd be able to run the easy mode until the next person had the room scheduled. The safety protocols were significantly advanced that the only way she could hurt herself was by tripping over her own feet on the way out.

Maya watched him go before turning back to the room, voice activating another go at a beginner's run. She'd watch his videos later, not just because she was interested to see what he found actively challanging but also because she'd found that if the video was clear enough, and detailed enough her power could pick out things that gave her a better grounding in training later. Not enough to make the training exercises useless but enough that she got more out of them then the instruction alone.
