Walking the grounds leads to Alani meeting Alex Summers and his dog.
The grounds of the mansion still awed Alani more than she let on. It helped that wandering about outside gave her something to fill some time doing. As long as it stayed above 60 degrees, that was.
Something moved out of the corner of her eyes, and she quickly turned, already bracing herself to not activate her powers. It wasn’t - It was! “Is that a dog?!” She yelled the question.
"Whooooooa boy, hang on," Alex said as he stumbled along behind the hundred-pound dog - who's walking who had never been more appropriate. "Magnus, dude, I know you're hungry, but we're almost - whoa!"
He nearly tripped over the furry beast as Magnus suddenly stopped, ears perked up and eyes fixed in another direction. He had heard the yell, but not quite registered it as he turned and saw Alani freaking Ryan staring at him - well, his dog at least. "Yeah!" He called back, waving. "He's friendly if you want to pet him."
She was already walking towards the man and his dog before her brain catches up with the fact that he’d said she could pet the pup. Flushing, Alani focuses on controlling her breathing before giving a single nod.
“I’d really like that, if you’re sure it’s okay.” She flashes a quick smile, hand already reaching out to let the dog sniff her if he wants. “Right! I’m Alani, sorry, I - dog, I love dogs, so I got a bit of tunnel vision there. Thank you for letting me meet this pupper.”
"Alex," the man introduced himself. "And this is Magnus. He loves being pet. And snuggled. And - yup there he goes." Magnus had flopped over, rolling over to expose his belly. "Shameless furball."
"Aw, lookit him! It's so nice to meet you, Magnus, yes it is." She cooed towards the dog, taking the opportunity to sit on the ground. Remembering the man, she sheepishly returned her attention to him. "And it's so nice of you to let me meet your dog, Alex. You have no idea how much this means to me."
Alex chuckled, giving her a two-fingered salute. "The honor is all mine, ma'am. And Magnus's. Even if it's at the cost of what little dignity he would have liked to think he had."
Alani gasped in fake shock, one hand going to her chest. "No, he seems a perfectly dignified boy! I mean - look at that tum! Only a very dignified pup could have such a tummy." She broke into laughter, proud of herself for holding it together so long.
"Oh yeah, he's the picture of dignity. How dare I think he otherwise." Alex laughed, kneeling down to give Magnus a quick belly rub. "So I assume you're just in a constant state of bliss around here? A lot of people have dogs."
"That's what I'm sayin'." Her grin waned for a moment, before she reached out to caress Magnus's fur. "I didn't know that... Magnus here is the first pup I've seen here. First pet, actually, though I have heard of some people's cats - which are also great pets in my opinion... Have you had him since he was a puppy?"
"Yup." Alex patted Magnus's belly. "He was stray, so I figured this was the perfect place for him."
"Aw, that's a really sweet sentiment." Alani tries not to beam, finally getting the courage to pat the dog’s flank. “Do you live in the best place ever, Mr. Magnus? You must. You look so lovely and your coat is so nice - and I am just talking to your dog again. Oh god.” She laughs sheepishly. “Have you been here a while, Alex?”
"Rrrrrrrruff, it's okay," Alex said in a poor dog voice. "Dad's boring. I tell ya, you raise a pup, and he turns on you..." Alex chuckled, scratching Magnus's ears. "Yeah, I've been here a little over three years, and my brother was here for like years before that. I guess there's a charm about the place that keeps people."
Alani stared at the man, lips quirking before she let out a peel of laughter. "I'm going to have to trust your translating skills, I mean, that voice was just spot-on for any dog speaking through a human's mouth!" Clearing her throat, she nodded as if in understanding. "Oh wow. You're brother's here too? That must have been nice. It's... nice to hear from more than one person - that people like it here well enough to stay. I'm assuming you have a good grasp on your... abilities?"
"My brother and my wife. It's a pretty cool place, clearly." Alex chuckled. "And yeah, I can handle my powers pretty well. Still getting to know more about them, which is probably weird at almost thirty, but-" he shrugged. "Being here is worth it anyways."
“Your brother and your wife?! Aww - did you meet her here? Wait, we’re you students here together? Okay, wait, sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself." Alani waved one hand slightly, as if it helped her clear her head, while the other rested on Magnus
. "What do you mean getting to learn more about them? Do they change as you get older? Also, kudos to you, I wouldn't a guessed you were a day over 24. I'm also terrible at gauging people's ages I guess."
"Tell you what." Alex grinned. "Come 'round to our suite, meet Lorna, and I'll make cookies and answer all your questions. Sound good?"
She blinked at him for a moment, hand still on the dog before she returned the grin. "Yes! Please! I would love that - to meet her. Should I make something? Or bring something? Uh, does she like anything you don't have in abundance? Or do you?"
"I mean, we'll never say no to anything chocolate, but no obligation," Alex assured her. Magnus, twisted to lick Alani's hand, clearly wanting more attention. "Dude, come on. Don't be desperate."
Alani's attention had been snatched, and she turned to beam at Magnus. It didn't take much coaxing as she finally used both hands to pet the dog. "Chocolates I can do. They will not be homemade, though, so - trust me it's no pressure for me."
"Chocolate is chocolate," Alex said solemnly, patting Magnus fondly. "And you'll get a nice meat treat."
