Kevin come to, meeting a very different Mary than he knew.
Kevin came to slowly, feeling like he was in the hands of a youthful hangover. He tried to purge the internal toxins from his system, but his powers seemed just out of reach. He opened his eyes and tried to rub them, only to find both hands cuffed together with a chain, which was fed through a bracket screwed into the table. It was a good low tech solution, especially when he caught sight of the decidedly high tech alternative; a power suppressor cuffed around his right wrist. The room was windowless, painted white, and held nothing more than the chair and the table he was chained to. He could be next door to the operation site in Germany or on the other side of the world.
The door opened and Mary walked in. Instantly, he could tell something was off. It was Mary, but she didn’t move like Mary or hold her head and posture like Mary. Gone was the unconscious reflection of her military training and her own ruthless competence. This was a woman less sure, less certain of how she moved in the world.
"Hello Kevin. How is the head?" Mary asked, sounding like the Mary he knew. She pulled out the chair opposite of him and took a seat, her hands clasp on her lap, her legs crossed at the ankle. "I am sorry we have to meet like this."
Kevin shook the last of the cobwebs out of his head. "Mary. I don't understand why you're doing all this."
Mary bit her lower lip and remembered Walkers instruction she had left. "I would like you to help locate Sugar Man."
"I guessed that. But I don't know why." Kevin was clamping down his emotions, forcing himself to think rather than react to Mary being right there and yet, not.
Mary was quiet for a moment before looking down at her hands, "He did horrible things to me." She finally said in a small voice. Mary couldn't remember what had happened during those times. There was patches were she could remember being in a cell, but when they came for her, that is where she blacked out only to awake a few days later hurting all over. "I-I don't remember everything, but I know he is a bad person. We must find him and return the favor."
Kevin winced. When she'd come back, Mary hadn't been able to explain what had happened to her beyond vague terms; bits and pieces of half-remembered scenes and emotions. The pain was clear on a face that looked at him from out of his past. He forced back the urge to try and say or do anything to comfort her. She didn't know him. "The Sugar Man isn't easy to find. I'm not going to get very far handcuffed to a table.
"I have a way to find him. But I need your word you that you won't try anything if I uncuff you. I like to speak to you more." Mary was certain that the moment she felt trouble would be when Walker would come. It was like Mary's personal bodyguard.
Did he want to try something? His Mary he wouldn't stand a chance against. This... version of her? Was it worth it to risk the chance to hit the Sugar Man? He made up his mind and nodded.
"I'll be good."
Mary smiled warmly at him as she got up from her seat and produced a key, she unlocked his cuffs and placed them on the table. "Like I said, I have a way to track down Sugar Man, but I need your help to do it." Pulling out a small tablet from her back pocket.
