Franklin wants mac and cheese. Franklin wants his llama. Franklin wants his parents. Alex can help with at least one of those things.

Franklin was definitely not supposed to be in the kitchen himself. Not at home, not in Mom and Dad's lab-office, not at Uncle Johnny's house, and not here.

First of all, nobody had put in a fridge that talked to him, and he really missed the talking fridge. He'd told the fridge that he missed it's voice, but it hadn't listened at all.

Second, this wasn't his house and he was supposed to ask first, but he was hungry, not apple hungry or crackers hungry or cheerios hungry, and those were the only things in the room he was sharing with Talia.

Also it was way too early for him to be out of bed. All the grownups were asleep.

So he sat down on the floor, and pouted up at the fridge.

Alex was ruffling his hair as he let himself back into the mansion. The mornings weren't quite cold enough for him to move his morning run to a treadmill yet, but he could feel the threatening chill in the air every time he stepped outside. He decided to detour to the kitchen to get a bottle of water - and maybe some hot cocoa. It wasn't cold yet, but a man could indulge, right?

The kitchen was usually empty at this time - it was a weird hour where the insomniacs had retreated to their rooms to wait for sunrise and people who didn't wake up for morning jogs were still asleep. Either way, the kitchen wasn't generally a popular destination at this time. Which made finding the little blonde boy on the floor, pouting at the fridge, both hilarious and a little confusing at the same time.

"Hey little dude," Alex said, popping his earbuds out. "You need something?"

"I need a grownup to say I can use the microwave." Franklin looked up at the tall blond man, squinted and then floated up off the floor, still sitting with his legs crossed. "Are you a grown-up? I can't make macadoni cheese without a grown-up."

"I am indeed a grown-up." There was probably something questionable about letting the boy eat mac and cheese at stupid a.m., but Alex never said he was a good grown-up. "Do you need help?"

"Ummmm." Franklin floated over to the pantry, opened it handslessly and peered in. There were macaroni and cheese cups, right where they were always, even if they looked different. "Nope! I can read!" He picked one up, with his actual hands, and floated along to the sink. "Uncle Johnny taught me this. Fill to the line, microwave three three zero, add extra cheese, stir, wait so I don't burn my mouth and get a mouth boo-boo."

"Cool deal," Alex said with a grin, watching the flying and the handless movements. "What's your name? I'm Alex."

"Everyone keeps asking me my name." Franklin complained as he floated his way to the sink. "I'm Franklin." He sighed a little. "Franklin Benjamin Storm-Richards." He said, in a sing-song annoyed tone. "Everyone keeps asking. Asking asking all the time asking."

Storm-Richards. Sue was never hearing the end of this. "Sorry, bud." Alex hoisted himself up to the counter, letting his legs dangle as he watched the boy work. "I can't read minds, though."

"I'm psosed to use my voice not my thinks." Franklin said, still annoyed at what he felt was the unfairness of everything. "I'm not psosed to just think it, and I'm psosed to keep a secret and I'm psosed to stay here and not go go go, and I'm psosed to not tell anyone anything and I don't like it." He filled the cup up with water, and then took the slightly wet packet of powdered cheese out. "And I forgot the cheesy packet and it's all wet and I don't like it."

"Well, how about this? I get a mac and cheese cup, and we can trade cheese packets," Alex suggested. "And I won't ask you any more questions and we can just hang out and eat our mac and cheese."

Franklin floated down to the floor, and looked at his sock-covered feet. "Do you like cartoons? Because my Uncle would watch cartoons with me when we ate macadoni cheese and I miss everyone and I want my mommy and Talya said we can go home soon but I want cartoons and my bean bag chair." He sighed, and then handed the slightly damp cup of macaroni and cheese to Alex. "I am gonna go get my llama. He's soft and he was in my backpack. Can we watch cartoons and eat macadoni cheese?"

"I love cartoons." Alex grinned. "I bet I can find you a bean bag chair while you get your llama. We can take over one of the rec rooms and watch all the cartoons."

"Llama helps when I'm sad." Franklin said, in an almost inaudible voice. "I'm going to hug him a lot." He shuffled off, feet only slightly touching the floor. "Gonna eat all the macadoni cheese too." He said, thought audible even though he had already left the room.

Alex watched him go, then jumped down to check the cabinet. It was stocked full of mac and cheese cups. "Sounds good," he called as he prepared to steal them all. Clearly this situation called for all the macadoni cheese.
