Jubilee stops by Kevin's office to give him information on the new milk run and to have a discussion about elephants.

Jubilee dropped down in the chair across from Kevin's desk, curling into it as she watched him write out a report. She didn't speak, not particularly needing conversation but she did slide a document onto the desk in front of him.

It was the layout for the new drop point that she'd taken Darcy along for, and she'd burn it after he'd taken a look and given his expert opinion on if it was workable. She had a few options written down for choices, but she hadn't settled on any particular one just yet.

She could make the decision by herself if it came to it, but she preferred to use the knowledge Kevin had while he was available to have it. She'd go over it with Darcy once she was finished here.

"You know we have email right?" Kevin said, giving her a look. "And they say I'm the Luddite."He picked up the page and glanced over it.

"I like to think paranoid is a better term. I don't want like, anything written down that can't be properly erased." Jubilee replied with a gentle shrug and then leaned forward to point out the place she thought was the best. "It's a noodle shop. Lots of people through constantly and the owners don't give a shit about remembering faces."

"High traffic has its own dangers though. No way to secure it makes it easier for a mistake positive. You factored that in?" Kevin said, going through all the elements she'd outlined.

"Yeah, the high traffic issue was outweighed by the fact it's in the area we had the other one, so we wouldn't be seeing too great a gap in our current network, it'd just be a bit more high maintenance than the others. There's another option too that's just as close, a Russian tea shop that's not as high traffic but we might need to negotiate with other interested parties to use it. Not impossible but messy, and I didn't want to throw Darcy into that kinda thing right now. "

Jubilee was focused, confident as she spoke, the manic energy she existed with almost constantly completely non-existent as she spoke. It wasn't an act, but a focus down to get the job done as quickly as possible, she'd manage the extra energy some other time, with one of the various ways she'd picked up over the years.

"Way too much risk adding in a third party. Take the noodle place for now, but scope out that leg further. I want other options." Kevin said, ticking off the rest of the options in his head before setting it down. "The rest look fine. Have we started vetting the members of this network yet?"

"I wanted your thoughts first on who to focus on, and whether I should take Darcy along for that. I've got thoughts but you've been doing this a fuck tonne longer than I have" Jubilee replied, making a note in her head to do some follow-up work on other options. It wasn't just training for Darcy but refreshers for her as well. It had been a while since she needed to change any of them, and some of them had been from back when Remy was first training her. "It would be worthwhile having her there, especially if she's willing to use her power. But I need to know if that's gonna fuck her up. She's your padawan, dude. Emma could be just as useful if we'd rather keep her back for a while."

"Darcy can make the call on the use of her powers, but take her along anyway. The danger should be minimal and I want her feeling useful right now. Get past feeling guilty about everything that happened with Topaz and Avalon." Kevin motioned to his cabinet. "Grab us a couple of drinks while I double-check some things."

"Done." Jubilee pulled herself out of the slouch she'd been settling into and walked across to his cabinet, looking at the options. She tended toward the fruity or the colorful but she'd grown an appreciation for the expensive and smooth over the years. Having Emma as a patroness of their little group and being friends with Felicia had definitely improved her appreciation of good wine, that was for sure. Kevin tended more toward Rye or Gin but she was happy to see he had the makings for a classic martini, which was the perfect midpoint between what he would drink, and what Jubilee would drink. "Classic martini, because I'm not a complete heathen."

"Of course you are. But I'll take the martini." Kevin accepted the glass and placed it to one side. "I need you to be the front on this. Lewis needs to see how it works, but it is better not to make it working hinge on her. She's had multiple shocks. We need to see if this has cracked her or she bounces back, not put more pressure on her."

"What are your thoughts on that?" Jubilee took a sip of her drink before placing it on the desk. She eyed him across it as she slouched back once again, always watching and processing. "She was quick on what I was doing, asked smart questions and she doesn't get annoyed easily. That’s an asset in a field agent.”

"I think she's done fine with everything we've asked so far, but that's a long way from being cleared as a field operative." He said and took a drink. "I need you and Hardy and the others to test her, the same way as I've asked for Topaz and Clea and the other new ones."

“Of course. I’m teaching her pole dancing right now but it’ll help for strength and flexibility later. You want us to focus on any particulars or just see what she gravitates to and go from there?” Jubilee took another drink and gave him a serious look. “Sorry about the other day. I was stressed and fucked up.”

"No, I want you to keep her along with what we've outlined and follow up. I don't care about her skills in the field. It's about temperament and composure right now." Kevin said, before taking a long gulp from his drink.

"And since we now have the elephant in the room, do you understand why you don't get an excuse for that?"

She felt she knew, even though she didn’t like being dressed down one bit. She met his gaze head-on however and didn’t mince words as much as she wanted to make excuses.

“Because we thought we’d just lost someone and I’ve been in this thing long enough to know better and to be better. I wasn’t on the ball that day and that shit could have killed more of us if I hadn’t focused.”

"It's more than that. Like it or not, you're a senior operative, Lee. Some people look to you for cues. How to do things. I get the situation. I need you to get over that."

“Honestly? I don’t feel it.” Jubilee admitted, saying something that had been bugging her for a while now. She knew she was trained and had been holding her own since everything blew apart but that didn’t stop her from feeling like that status was yet to be earned. “You’re a senior operative. Remy was. I feel like I don’t even know half of what I should yet and I’m training people.”

"Welcome to life. I went from crawling around the mud in Korea to running a shop in fifteen years. We don't have the luxury of self doubt. If you don't think you can do it, you need to tell me now. Otherwise, suck it up and fake it if you have to."

“I’m not quitting.” Jubilee was firm in her conviction even if she was feeling less certain of her abilities. She’d need to go back over the things she wasn’t as certain of. “I need some time with the Beast though. I’ve got dyscalculia, it makes data analysis hard but I can work something out with enough time and help.”

We can make that happen. But I don't need you airing your issues in public." Kevin said. "You need to lock that down and do your job."

“I can do that. Long as I can mention them during debriefing.” Jubilee had always been honest with herself, and sometimes she needed a place to bitch, even if that was in private. “I can keep it off comms and to appropriate moments.”

"You want to come in here in private, you can scream to your heart's content. You want to go and destroy some shit in the Danger Room and get all bloody. You want to down seventeen shots and fuck two guys you just met in the back of their Honda, all of those things are fine. After you do the job at hand. You get me? We all cope in our own ways, but that happens after we do the job in front of us." Kevin said as he leaned back in his chair. "At some point, you need to accept you aren't just some line animal. If you were, the training path you were set on by your 'hero' Remy would have been different. He obviously thought you were capable of more. Prove him right."
