X-Men Mission: Town Called Malice - Log 6
Oct. 22nd, 2022 04:43 pmSooraya and Pytor are the last to be ambushed by their unknown opponents.
"They didn't stand a chance." Sooraya knelt down next to one of the bodies, carefully looking it over if she could find any clues to what had happened. "This wasn't a fight... this was a slaughter." She leaned forward, gently closing the woman's eyes before muttering a short prayer in Arabic.
Pyotr looked down upon the bodies of men that died hard, died fighting, and felt a wave of sadness at the waste of it all. "I wish there were something we could do for the fallen." he said quietly. "Bad men or no, they at least deserve a burial." he said, then straightened himself up tall. If there was battle to be done, he would shield his comrades behind his indestructible body, warding them all with his strength.
Sooraya rose, looking around her for any other clues. "You're right." She agreed quietly. "We'll bring it up with the others once we've finished securing everything and found what clues we..." She fell silent, catching sight of something on the wall. "Bullet holes? But they don't look like normal bullet holes like the ones we saw before." Carefully Sooraya reached, trying to remove some of the fragments from the concrete. "Can you try to get some of the shards out without further damaging them? I'm not having much luck and I need to let the others know."
Pyotr did his best to dig some of the fragments out of the wall but in the end it was easier to just rip a chunk of wall out with the fragments still inside. So he did so, shrugged, and offered it to Sooraya. "Your fragments, ma'am." he said.
Glancing back and forth between the chunk and Colossus Sooraya shook her head. "We've got something here that's... Eep." Instinct had her diving down, hitting the floor with a smack.
The bullet ricocheted off the wall where her head had been, tumbling down the hallway.
"That was your only warning, X-Men. Retreat and live. Stay and some of us die today." The voice echoed down the hall; dark, older, a gritty bass from a man who had seen many conflicts and believed what his said completely. More quietly, where they couldn't hear, he whispered into his comm. "Arclight, rumble them on my command. Wait for them to come closer."
Pyotr, already in his Colossus form, shifted his position to cover Sooraya. "I think not." he said simply. Still holding the concrete chunk, he wound up like an American baseball pitcher and hurled it with all his strength at the speaker. Even if its coherence wouldn't hold, getting hit with the equivalent of a concrete shotgun blast might make them respect Colossus more.
"And of course the asshats are still here." A fierce pang of rage rose within Sooraya, pictures of the slaughtered residents flashing in front of her eyes, but she kept her calm as she dissolved in a cloud of sand that stayed on the ground. "Keep their attention on you." She transmitted her brief order through the comms as small streams of sand started slithering forward, cloaked by the gloominess of the hallways.
"Da." he muttered under his breath, his anger - usually slow to rouse - was high. Murderers, the lot of them. They deserved what was coming to them. "Come, little cowards!" he called out into the darkness ahead. "Come test yourself against Colossus, if you dare!" he taunted.
"I don't remember the Prima Donna on the boss' list?"
"Must be a new hire. I hear they're cheaper to hire out of Eastern Europe." The two hidden Marauders whispered back and forth on their throat mikes. "Qadir is trying to sand map the territory. Light her up."
