Felicia and Gabriel infiltrate the clinic and rescue Jasmine Destine.

A medical clinic in the middle of the desert afforded a bounty of places on a roof to stay out of sight. Air conditioner ducts. Air conditioners. Solar panels and backup power banks that the panels fed into. The downside was that even in winter, the roof was unpleasantly hot, and smelled like tar and ozone.

"You ever notice how I'm always on roofs and basements?" Gabriel fiddled with his earpiece. "What's that about? I know Kevin can literally transform himself into anybody, but how come I never get to do the costumed subterfuge? Never the glamorous jobs for Gabo." He cracked his knuckles. "I know it's because I'm lithe and lean and can squeeze through windows, but damn."

"I always wonder if I missed a secret planning and roles assignment meeting," Felicia replied, smoothing down her leggings and retucking the hem into her boots. "I suppose it's nice to know we're the skinniest of the group, something something, unrealistic beauty standards."

"Next job, we get to be the hot couple that stands around and has people just tell us things. After you?"

"Just think it would be nice to rotate." Gabriel rolled up the sleeves on the black overshirt he'd thrown on. "Yeah, what's the plan? You want to take the power and the alarms out this time? I can go in through the ducts and, you know," he shrugged. "Cause chaos."

"Read my mind," Felicia said, spinning a pair of snips around her finger gunslinger style. "Give me five to get the air clear and chaos is all yours."

Loud death metal music beat against her ears, the lights flashing and flashing making it impossible to find even a moment of relief. She couldn't even cover her ears or her eyes with her hands firmly tied behind her back. Nor could curl up, the stiffness of the bruises all over her body making moving a painful affair. Jasmine let out a soft moan, squeezing her eyes shut, but even that didn't stop the lighting.

Until it did; in one heartbeat it was agony, the next, everything was clicking down, lights flickering out, noise fading to something like silence, muffled exclamations barely heard over ringing ears. Somewhere, a backup generator flickered to life, but it was obviously outdated and barely utilized, hesitantly lighting up the emergency exit signs.

From above there was a soft metallic noise, a pause, and then a woman's voice heard from a tiny ear piece. "All clear down there?"

"Fucking no," A surprisingly high-pitched voice shot back, but it slowed as Gabriel returned to the Earth's time and dropped into a security closet. "I hate these ducts. I hate them so much. I'm all cut up — even when I use my God-given advantages so that I can do this as slowly as possible, there's always so much scraping. And this is a medical clinic, you know every scratch is going to be infected." He pushed back his sleeve, where he'd drawn a map of the clinic on his arm, but he'd partially sweated through it.

"Damnit." He sighed, pulling out his phone and tapping a few things. "Alarm on the emergency door's cut. I'm gonna go do the thing with the chemicals we talked about, but you should be good to, you know, do that Felicia thing where you somehow beat me to our mark even though I can literally move 8 times as fast as you."

"Copy, I'll see you in 5 with the Elsa bandaids," Felicia finally managed after several beats of the earpiece mute function flicking on and off.

Jasmine blinked once very hesitantly, then blinked again. The music still pounded through her head and she wasn't even sure if it had really shut off or that it was still playing. Still, she was staring in total darkness... so the music must have cut off too. Very gingerly she shook her head a little, her stiff neck muscles making it a rather painful affair. She didn't know if the silence and darkness promised anything good or bad, but for now she relaxed a little in the peace.

It was short lived, as the sound of something shattering exploded from the other room, followed by a quick scratching noise and suddenly the door swung open, Felicia on the other side. “Hey princess, we’re here to rescue you,” she butchered, grin and hair a beacon in the dark, as she rushed over to Jasmine’s side. A knife and lock pick were pulled from various pockets and she began making quick work on her various fastenings.

"Now see, how do you do that?" The male voice came as if out of nowhere, as Gabriel emerged suddenly out of the darkness. A faint noxious odor entered the space. "I mean, I said it would happen, and it happened." He pulled his flashlight out of his pocket, shining it on Felicia and take stock of Jasmine. There were bruises and cuts; she'd clearly been roughed up. He watched as Felicia worked to free her.

"Before she finishes," he cleared his throat as he moved the light toward Jasmine's face so he could look her squarely in the eye. "You want to tell us what you told them? We don't have a ton of time, and I'd hate to leave you in here when the sprinklers go off, but I'm not above it."

Tears filled her eyes at the sharp light and Jasmine blinked furiously to clear her eyes. All she could see was a dark oval behind the bright light and the voice was vaguely familiar. Still, they were removing her ties, so... "What? Who?" She cleared her throat, but it was raw and dry and she burst out in some furious coughing. "What'd I've told'em?" She finally managed to croak out.

Felicia paused, her knife drawing away from the zip ties holding her wrists together. They were ugly to look at, red wounds, and she tried not to wince at leaving her bound, glad she was behind her. "That is not a great answer," Felicia said slowly, pressing her thumb in as a gentle reminder. "Start with anything, move on to everything."

"Guys like this beat the shit out of you, you're bound to say a thing or two." Gabriel added.

Jasmine blinked furiously and coughed once more, spitting out some slime and blood. "Nasty new tactic, not giving you'nything else." Unconsciously she stiffened, warding off the next blow that was sure to come.

"Anything else. So there was something." Gabriel turned his flashlight off, pocketing it again. "We really don't have time for this," he said to Felicia, "Maybe a minute before everything kind of—" There was the noise of something else shattering, and a handful of shouts. "Well. You know."

"Fine, she stays half bound, I care a lot less if she gets a little nicked here and there, and when she's someone else's problem, they can figure out what to do with her other than a deep cavity search," Felicia said, pulling her up. "I don't know why you're being such an asshole about this. Are you not a Star Wars fan? Should I have done ‘come with me if you want to live’ instead?"

"Okay, okay," Gabriel shook his head. They were going about this all wrong; too aggressive, both of them ending up as bad cops. But he wasn't in the mood to be a good cop. This whole trip had just gotten under his skin. "Come on. The, uh—" He tried to remember codenames. "Librarian and, um... I dunno, what's-her-face, the spunky one, are probably freeing Sydney. Let's bolt."
