Match runs into Matt during his early morning can rummage.

Match winced as the floor creaked, before quickly continuing on towards the kitchen. It wasn't like some squeaking floorboards would wake up the whole place and bring them all running to investigate. At least he hoped not, he’d been doing this enough that that would make him feel bad. Mentally reassuring himself, he finally slipped into the kitchen only to freeze immediately. Someone was here, even though the light wasn't on.

He tried to steady his breathing as he tried to reabsorb as much of the heat around him as he could, not willing to move from his spot.

"Morning. Or night. Whichever you prefer," Matt had been so good at keeping a relatively normal sleep pattern, but then it had all gone to hell the night before waking up and being unable to sleep again. That pattern was apparently continuing.

He didn't recognize the heartbeat of the person joining him, but there were a number of newer residents he had yet to meet personally. The mansion could be a big place when you kept to different areas or different times. "Eggs?"

Still, he didn't move, though the heat he'd fought to pull back into himself dispersed back out through the area around him. Oh, the man was cooking… Match blinked owlishly from him to the pantry he’d been about to pick his way through.

“Uh, no thanks, I’m-“ It was harder to explain to most people that he couldn’t taste, so foods that were actually made by others were lost on him, so he just counted the notional values on cans. Probably best to leave it alone. “Thanks but nah, I’m just here for the canned pumpkin.”

"What're you making with it?" Matt asked conversationally. "I'm Matt, by the way. Murdock," he flipped his omelet in the pan then added cheese from the package on the counter.

"I just eat it with a spoon," Match shrugged, finally making his way to the pantry, though slowly and keeping an eye on Matt as he moved. "Match. You cook at 3am often, Matt?" He'd remember to block that off his mental timetable.

To each their own though that sounded....boring, even back when he was over-stimulated with all senses and trying to get them under control when he was younger, "I have a condition called Non-24," he explained easily, "I'm NLP, blind. It's a common side-effect. Means my body loses track of day and night because I can't see the light changes to differentiate it. Which is a long-winded way of saying, 'no, I don't always cook at 3am.' But I was up working and got hungry. Eggs and toast are easy enough."

A loud hum of thought as Match began to sort through cans, uninterested in the chicken stock or canned pasta as he searched. "I never thought about that. Never met a blind person before actually... Makes sense that you didn't turn the lights on then- There we go." He dropped a can into his backpack before turning another over to check the nutrients. "Never ate much eggs, didn't like yolks, gross, but- wait – How do you know when they're done?" Still holding the can, he craned his neck out of the door with interest.

"Couple ways," Matt gestured for Match to approach, "Firstly, I generally make scrambled eggs. I can do other types, but this is easiest. And I prefer them a little on the firm side, which is easier to check, I just touch the eggs gently in the center of the pan without touching the pan itself. But I can also tell by how they feel when I stir with the spatula. And my powers help, some. I'm far from a gourmet chef, but I can handle breakfast and a few other dishes without burning down the house," learning basic cooking skills had been part of his therapy and he'd found cooking useful, even if it wasn't a hobby he enjoyed.

"Uh-huh," he mumbled absentmindedly, as he took a few more steps forward to watch before making his way back to the cans to sort through what would be a good snack or something to trade. "What do you do that helps you be able to cook eggs?" Match raised his voice to ask as he squinted at another can, before tugging at the collar of his shirt to let some of the light peak out. The man couldn't see it so there was no worry that he'd comment on it. "Only ever learned to cook, like, frozen pizzas and mac and cheese, now it's all the same to me, so no reason to cook no more." Another can joined its friend in his bag.

"What do you mean?" Matt asked, sliding the eggs from the pan and sprinkling cheese on top. He didn't really care what sort of cheese, just so long as it was pre-shredded. 3am eggs didn't deserve fresh grated cheese.

There was a pause as Match went through what he’d, at least what he thought he’d said before finally settling on the option to re-ask his question. “How do your powers help you cook? Can you see even though you’re blind? Or do you have a cooked egg sense? That’d be kinda weird but I mean I knew a person who could make himself almost invisible, like he blended in with his surroundings.”

"Firstly, I don't need my powers to cook. Do you watch Masterchef? A blind woman won season 3," Matt answered, "But, I do use my powers. It's hard not to, I have enhanced senses. They don't really turn off. And you?"

“Oh, I thought you said your powers help you, so just assumed. Never seen it, cooking channels aren't my thing." Finally happy with his haul, Match made his way out of the pantry. "I make fires. Not much else going on."

"They do," Matt took a bite, leaning on thy counter, "I'm still blind. My powers are how I navigate the world. I don't need my powers to cook, but yeah, I still use them. And fire is very useful. As is being fire- proof," at least, he assumed he was both able to create fire and then not get burned.

“Real Stone Age approach, sure, ‘s great for not having to turn lights on but… well, Kyle and Sooraya think I’m doing fine and I haven’t burned this place down. Yet.” He wasn’t planning on it, even, but the only thought had been to joke. “But, I’ll leave you to your eggs. Hope they’re good.”

"Enjoy your canned goods," Matt answered genially, "Though...don't discount yourself or your powers. You'll figure it all out in time."

Match paused in his exit to look back at Matt, trying to decide if he was being serious, before finally nodding. “I will. Night, or morning if you’re gonna stay awake.”
