Garrison discovers that Jessica is on the edge of eviction. Fortunately, her savior appears. Unfortunately, it is Warren.

Jim closed his laptop, finally admitting that he didn't have the focus to get any modules done today. Continuing education had been a nice dream. At least he'd managed to get part of a sandwich down.

Someone else was heading into the kitchen as he started to pack up. The telepath glanced over and saw Garrison on his way in. He gave his teammate a glum nod.

"Hey, Garrison. Still no luck with Kilgrave, I guess?"

"Nothing in a database, nothing from facial recognition. Basically, we're down to hope and an accidental discovery from some old DUI or something." Kane said, shrugging as he walked in and poured himself a coffee. "I'm hoping there's an ownership angle we might be able to exploit, but the only names on all of Jones' documents are hers."

Jim rubbed his temples. "Yeah, from what I picked out he never handles anything himself. The most distinguishing feature about him is the fucking awful Clive Christian Original Collection NO1 cologne he wears. I could give everyone the sense-memory, but I think that's technically a war crime."

"I can pass. Tracking shitty cologne through the five boroughs is a mugs game." Kane leaned against the counter. "But, in looking in... Jones is being evicted. Two days from now, the landlord is putting everything out into the street. I would have settled up but... well, it's not my life. Apparently she's more than just a month behind."

The telepath winced. "Even if she had it she's not in any condition to go down there and settle. Jean says she's about ready to leave the Medlab, but she won't be going anywhere for a while. It'd be at least a month before she had any use for it anyway." Jim hesitated, searching his memory of Jessica's. It had not been a nice apartment. How much could backrent be? Surely the roaches counted as subletters. "Maybe I could--"

Warren had initially come to the kitchen to refill his water and had every intention of ignoring Kane and Haller but the minute he heard the word "Jones", his interest was piqued immediately. "Say no more. From what I just overheard because of course I did, Jessica is being evicted? That's horrible and unacceptable. I can only assume a room is going to be made available to her here, and if not, I will personally go and buy that apartment building from her landlord so that she has somewhere to say. Hasn't the woman suffered enough? And then the indignity of her belongings on the road?" There was a physical shudder that coursed through his body. "That can't do. I'll handle all of this, immediately. I clearly have nothing better to do today."

Jim almost jumped out of his own skin. Unexpectedly being confronted by Warren Worthington was a horrible experience. The gears in his brain ground together for an instant before he processed the man's offer.

"Um, I'm not sure that's--" he began.

"Whoa, Worthington. Not your life, not your call." Kane said, putting down his mug and putting up both hands. "If it was just a question of money, I would have settled it a couple of hours ago. We need to talk to Jessica and see what she wants us to do first."

"Look, I'm no medical professional, but isn't stress something you want to avoid when you're dealing with a concussion and other questionable brain injuries? And fine, I won't buy the place. What I can do is arrange for movers and storage if need be, and have it taken care of so that when she's feeling better, she has her things and isn't picking it off the ground. Doesn't that make sense?"

Jim tried, with great effort and from several angles, to form an argument that it did not. He couldn't. He gave up.

"Okay. I guess it makes sense to at least put her stuff in storage until she's ready to deal with it." He added, against everything he knew about Jessica's personal finances, "If it bothers her she can always pay you back later."

Warren gave Kane a smug smile. "I can absolutely do that, and if she really wants an invoice, so be it. I'm sure she won't though. Moving is expensive. I just need the address, and I'll have it all taken care of by the end of the day. Thanks, Haller. This is why we make such a great team. You get me."

Jim tried to avoid making eye contact with Garrison by means of willing himself through the kitchen floor. "No, I really don't," he muttered.

While Kane was tempted to keep the address from Warren, even if out of spite, Haller folding like a cheap suit had already empowered the wealthy man and Garrison knew he'd just send out staff to dig up the address on his own. He pulled out his phone and sent the address over to Warren. "Here's the deal. Just get her stuff packed and stored. Jess isn't in the best place right now and however good intentioned this is, we're still invading her privacy. So, for once-" He said warningly. "-be respectful."
