Liam tackles Jay in the kitchen. Because cat and bird.

Breakfast when school wasn't in session was more like brunch. And Liam was all about the food as he meandered into the kitchen and - bird. There was a giant bird in the kitchen and - tail swishing, Liam flew through the air practically wrapping himself around his prey as they rolled around on the kitchen floor, Liam making loud chitters as he triumphantly sat on the birds chest.

Oh he was very very pleased. Someone please say they had that on video. "Suck it Sharon!"

What was it with this stupid mansion/apartment building and being tackled? Jay had only left his and Sam's suite to get some eggs and he was on his back, one hand on his assaillant's shirt before he realized that whoever was on top of him was... he was just a kid. A fluffy, striped kid with little ears like a barncat, but still with that awkward look of teenagerhood about him. No more'n 16 if Jay had to reckon. It was hard to be angry at a dumb kid.

"Offa me, what were ya raised in a barn?" Then again, this was a cat kid. Maybe he had been? He corrected himself. "Nobody never taught you manners?"

Purring proudly, Liam's tail swished in excitement, though he climbed off without claws. "No, though we had one. My dad's workshop was in it, no animals," Liam answered, offering a hand to help the guy up. "I just. Needed to try to catch you. And I did!"

Jay's heart squeezed in his chest looking at Liam as he accepted the hand to help haul himself up. He missed his younger siblings. Standing he could get a better look at Liam, tail and all.

Poor kid had probably had a rough time of it, looking the way he did.

"You caught me indeed. You can help gather the eggs ya made me drop and clean up any what broke," he said, surveying the damage. He'd been surprised to find that the eggs here were fresh- not all of them had shattered. Still, next time he ought to bring a basket or carton.

And then he remembered his own manners. "I'm Jay."

Yeah, that was fair. "Liam. There's chickens outside," he paused, then added, "I'm pretty sure they have a heated coop though. You can't hunt them, they're pets," he pulled out a carton of clearly store bought eggs from the fridge to replace the broken ones. The chickens made plenty of eggs, but they weren't running a full scale chicken farm and they were running a large mansion of people. "Not that I would. Wait," an ear swiveled towards Jay, "isn't eating chickens like... cannibalism?"

"Saw the chickens, yeah," he said, letting Liam ramble on to him as he cleaned up the yolk off the floor. He wasn't exactly confident in the assertion that Liam hadn't tried to hunt the chickens, since he had mentioned it at all. The fact Liam had tackled him also didn't help his case, but so long as he wasn't doing it anymore he supposed. He tossed the paper towels and took the carton from Liam's hands.

"What? Why would it be cannibalism? I'm a human being. What?" He said, tucking in his wings slightly.

He hadn't hunted them. He knew better. Sharon on the other hand.... was a chicken murderess. "Because...?" he answered, like it was obvious, "You're also a bird."

"What, are you a cat?" Jay said, unaware of the careful politics of being a mutant. He had to cling to his humanity and convince himself he was still in the image of the lord and didn't realize that maybe some mutants had different views of themselves. "I'm still human even with the wings. 'Sides, even if I were a bird, birds hunt each other all'a the time. Chickens'll go for their own eggs if ya let'em."

"I mean yeah," he gestured to himself, tail wagging behind him, "I'm human, sure, but I'm also a cat. I'm assuming you haven't met Sharon yet. She's a cat. If you call her human, she gets pissy," and stalked off mad. "But like... me wanting to stalk and tackle you? All cat," Liam explained, still proud of himself. He had a lot of cat mannerisms, but he knew how to be a person, too. And to balance them as best he could.

"That's... huh." Jay said, knowing he'd be chewing on the concept of that duality for a while. "Well I appreciate you gettin' off when I asked." Instead he looked the boy over one more time. The boy- cat- boycat- looked like he was in a growth spurt by the length of his pants. Jay'd been planning on goin' back up to his and Sam's but... "You want some eggs made up? Got it on authority I do a larapin fry-up."

"I only understood like, half that. But if you're cooking, I'm eating!" he pulled out more eggs. Not eating cold cereal for the win! Could he make eggs and toast? Yeah, barely. Did he like it? Not when he made it "And sure. I wasn't trying to fight. So. You know. Thanks for not punching me in the nose," though he would have understood.

Jay started looking for a pan and his lips twitched. When'd he ever get a reputation for fighting over Sam? (Or was Sam's reputation rubbing off on him?) "How many eggs you want?"
