Jay & Mel | Apology

xp_logsJay apologizes for the other day. Mel is reluctant to accept it.
Jay knocked on Mel's door. "Mel? It's Jay. Can... I reckon I owe ya an apology." He hadn't acted the best recently.
Mel had debated pretending to be taking a nap, but since Jay didn’t seem like he was going to yell at her some more, she called out “It’s open.”
Jay opened the door and closed it behind him. He stood awkwardly in the doorway. "I wanted to say I'm sorry."
Sighing, she crawled her way out of her mess of blankets and pillows. “You ain’t gotta do that Jay, not really.”
"I ain't doing it 'cause I gotta," he said. "I'm doing it 'cause I wanna. I ain't been supporting you which I reckon has been makin' me a hypocrite."
Mel shook her head. “I’ve been actin’ awful selfish. You ain’t gotta back me up on that.” The whole thing was so stupid- she was stupid.
Jay moved to sit next to her on the bed, wrapping one wing around her shoulder. "I don't think you're selfish. Nobody said nothing to me about datin' my boss's daughter." He broached the topic slowly, both out of grief and out of not being sure how to broach the double standard.
“That’s different though. This is just a stupid hookup. You-” She paused, not wanting to use the past tense of that word. “It’s completely different.”
"Be that as it may, I ain't been fair to you or trustin'. And I'm sorry."
Mel leaned into his shoulder. “Thank you. I ‘ppreciate it.”
