Jay & Mel | Haunting

The glow from the cracked doorway is what made Jay wake up from where he had fallen asleep on the couch. It seemed just like it might be Mel's light- and if so he could tell her that some people were trying to sleep.
He came out into the hall and saw it was her. "Mel!"
The fact that she was definitely not conscious became apparent as she bobbed up and down in the hall between the two suites. Her eyes were open, yes, but glassy and unfocused, illuminated by the light that surrounded her.
Jay was used to Mel sleepwalking, even if he'd never come across her sleep flying before. It'd be best to get her back into bed and settled. He walked up and took her by the hand, starting to pull her floating body after him.
Mel had been mumbling something incoherent under her breath, but it became more urgent as Jay pulled her. She gripped his hand tightly, looking at something not there with wide eyes. “Don’t shoot!”
It felt like a knife in his heart to hear Mel say that- and Jay knew what that felt like. It was his fault Mel was dreaming of being shot at... He tugged her down and bundled her in his arms, rocking her slightly as he carried her to her room.
He'd never wanted this for her.
"It's okay, Mellie, ain't no one gonna shoot nobody," he said, unsure if she could even hear him.
She just gazed over his shoulder, back to her incoherencies. There was nothing to be done to protect her from the hurt in her mind. Whatever haunted Melody wasn’t something that could be warded off with blue paint or reassurances.
