Gaia and Laura's night of watching Hocus Pocus is on pause while dealing with some annoyances. Lucky Doug is not too far behind to keep the girls from turning someone's night into an actual horror movie.

This time among all others sparked mischief in the hearts of the young. For one night a year they too could become one with everything foul and fair.

Giggles and hushed whispers swirled around the mansion’s high gate.

“C’mon dude, just press it!” “Don’t be a pussy Garret.”

A lone teenager emerged from the group huddled, Garret, looking a bit pale. There was no shortage of rumors as to what this place harbored. Some said a cult, some said something even more sinister. There was a silent consensus in town that it was not just a posh boarding house.

He dashed over to the looming iron, hood pulled high to avoid the cameras, and jabbed the doorbell.

It was tradition, after all.

Before he could run back to his friends, something moved in the darkness behind the walls.

Laura was up and over the wall and landed with a thud in front of the boy, blocking his way back to safety, "So, it was you who has been ringing that bell incessantly all evening." Her brown eyes glared at the boy and tossing a look at his friends behind her. "Maybe I should break your fingers so you can stop."

“What the fuck!” Some yelped from the group, and they all scampered down the drive, abandoning Garret.

Before they could make it far, however, a large branch cracked and fell down in their path. “Holy shit!!”

Gaia emerged from the trees somewhere in front of the gates, staring down the group with her steely gaze. She looked about as unnerving as someone could look with a pair of cat ears on.

The boy’s knees shook, fear thoroughly instilled in him. He avoided Laura’s glare, but jumped again upon making eye contact with Gaia. “No no I swear I only did it just now! It’s like, a thing everyone does on Halloween!”

Laura looked at the boy as she stepped closer, "So everyone comes up to random places and annoys the shit out of their residence? Do you know how many times we had to pause and rewind our movie because of you jerks? And now, I have a pounding headache and I can't get rid of it." Her rage was growing with each step she took towards the boy.

His friends made it down the rest of the drive without incident, and the sound of tires on gravel could be heard. Gaia glided closer to lurk behind the boy. She was not so much annoyed as annoyed on Laura’s behalf.

“Sorry sorry, please don’t hurt me!” A smell in the air suggested Garret may have wet himself.

"You should have thought about those consequences before you stepped foot onto the gravel of this place." Laura straightened up. "What do you want to do with him?"

“I do not care. Whatever punishment you find fitting.” Gaia thought for a moment, before procuring a permanent marker from her pocket. “Perhaps we should mark him so that his peers will know his shame.”

It was at this point that yet another figure loomed out of the darkness, eliciting an extremely unmanly yelp from Garret.

Normally monitor duty on Halloween was extremely slow. Mansion regulars generally knew about the ding dong ditch tradition, and since most people generally were off-site doing other things, whether it be parties, watching sports at Harry's, or something else, the practice was just sort of stoically accepted by anyone around to hear the multiple rings.

But Laura and Gaia were new enough to not be aware of those sorts of things, and so Doug had made his way from the monitor room out to the front gate the moment he'd seen the pair moving to frighten the locals.

The fact that he had a full Batman cape on for the evening had nothing to do with his decision. Nope.

"All right girls, you've made your point," he rumbled in a low register, while looking at the very noticeable wet spot on the kid's pants.

Laura was pulling out her own permanent marker from her pocket when Doug appeared, "Will they stop now?" Laura only stopped walking towards the kid now twirling the pen in her fingers, "We were watching Hocus Pocus and they kept interrupting."

“During an amusing musical number, no less.” Gaia had not seen many “humans” in this world yet, and took this as an opportunity to inspect the boy in front of her. There was not much to look at.

Doug nodded at Laura's question. "I think he'll serve as a warning for anyone else," he tossed his head at Garret. "His friends peeled out and left him here, so he'll have a nice long walk to think about how things could have been much," and here he moved into the teenager's personal space while his voice dropped to an almost growl. "...-much- worse."

He flicked his fingers dismissively. "Get outta here," he instructed. "And tell your friends to stop using our gate for cheap kicks." He didn't even really look to see if the kid was going or not as he gathered Laura and Gaia with a look, herding them back toward the mansion.

"Got enough popcorn for one more?" he asked before whistling the melody of 'I Put A Spell On You' to accompany their walk back.

Laura watched the boy started to walk then run out of view. She put her marker back in her backpocket and looked over at Doug, "Of course. But can we stop by the kitchen? I would like to grab another soda, to help with the headache." Looking over at Gaia.

"Indeed we can. I wish to pop some more corn." Gaia smoothed out her shirt and adjusted her cat ears slightly. "Now that the miscreants have been warded off we may finish the film in peace."
