Bobbi’s evening is disturbed by a late night visitor.
The night was quiet, moonlight streaming through the big windows of the apartment. So far up, the noise and bustle of the sleepless city couldn’t be heard.
A chair scraping broke through the silence, and the dog began to bark, an intruder obviously imminent. Nobody else should be out in the kitchen at this hour.
Bobbi had been up late, unable to sleep, so she'd headed to the living room with her laptop to peruse whatever wedding favour she'd been stuck on deciding about lately. It seemed like the list was never-ending, but at least it might help her get drowsy and back to sleep, or so she'd hoped.
Before that could happen, the scraping sound from the kitchen caught her attention and she gently closed the laptop with a soft clicking sound. Her mind wondered who might possibly be up and about, as she'd left Warren sound asleep and no staff members were supposed to be working at this ungodly hour.
"Hello?" she sang out as she got to her feet, putting the device down on the couch and slowly creeping around the corner to the kitchen. She didn't have any weapons on her but she didn't really need any, and she cracked her knuckles just in case as she rounded the wall and scanned the immediate area.
The chair made another sound as it moved, being nudged around by a very unconscious Mel. Her eyes were open, but her consciousness was obviously not switched on. Something was mumbled under her breath as she finally made it around the chair and continued her midnight stroll.
"Oh, it's you," Bobbi said, sighing in relief when she recognized who it was. That passed quickly, however, when she realized she wasn't herself. "Are... are you ok, Mel?" she asked, blinking at how she was acting. "Oh crap, are you... you're not..." She'd heard of sleepwalking before but hadn't actually come across someone in the middle of such a thing. What was it you were supposed to do again, or not supposed to do?
It wasn't often that Melody spent the night anywhere other than her own bed, unless she was particularly exhausted, and with that came a restlessness in sleep. A haunting, as Jay would say. She made her way into the kitchen and groped at one of the cabinets in what seemed a fruitless attempt to open it.
Bobbi bit her thumb and walked behind Melody, following her at what she hoped was a safe distance and watching as she went to one of the kitchen cabinets. "Oh, you want... um... h-here, let me," she said, gingerly reaching over to open the cabinet while making a concerted effort not to touch her. She still wasn't sure if she was supposed to wake her or not, or what the danger might be, so for now she was just going to watch until she figured it out.
"Fuck," she murmured, remembering her cell phone was in her pyjama pockets. She fished it out and hastily typed out a Google search to try and find some quick answers. Her eyes flicked up every now and then to see what Mel was doing, just to be careful she wasn't about to do anything dangerous.
Melody remained oblivious to the situation she was inflicting onto Bobbi. She managed to grab a glass and turned around to the sink to fill it up with water. Whatever urged her midnight strolls was thirsty. The tap was turned on successfully, but she didn't quite manage to line up the cup. Water ran a few inches from where she held it out.
"Oh oh oh, hold on," Bobbi said, darting over and gently nudging Mel's hand that held the cup until it was more or less directly underneath the tap. "There we go, good girl," she said as glass started to fill up, smiling until her choice of words hit her, and she shuddered as she'd wondered if Warren had ever said those words to her and - "Nope, nopenopenopenopenope," she scolded herself while gently pulling Mel's hand back as the cup started to overflow.
Maybe now that she had her water she'd drink it and wake up, right? At least that's what Bobbi hoped, and she stood there watching, rattling off prime numbers in her mind to try and scrub her previous thoughts clean.
The cup got lifted up to her mouth a few times as the other mutant went through her crisis, but Mel didn’t tip it back to take a drink. Merely went through the motion of doing so a few times before clinking the glass onto the counter.
"Are you... do... do you need a hand?" Bobbi whispered as she watched Mel try to drink a few times, then sighed in relief when she put the glass down. Maybe she shouldn't drink anyway, if she's not fully awake, could one choke on water? Or drown even? She had no idea and was glad not to have to wonder about it.
Clearing her throat, she spoke up a little, not trying to wake her but not not trying either if that made sense.
"Well, time for me to go back to bed, for anyone up and about to go to bed I suppose," she said with a stretch and a yawn for emphasis before watching for Mel's reaction.
The slumberer seemed to agree with the sentiment, as she set off to whence she came, not quite floating but footsteps too light to be entirely human.
Bobbi watched as Mel started to wander away, an ethereal motion that she wondered if the other woman even knew she was doing or not. Sleepwalking was an intriguing phenomenon in and of itself but a mutant who sleepwalked? Though for the moment she was grateful that she wouldn't have to try and wake her or anything at least.
"Um... h-have a good night?" she meekly offered, feeling like it'd be rude to say nothing, even if Mel wasn't exactly conscious to hear her.
