A scene in the domestic life of the lost boys. After a powers lesson, Billy tries to clean up Tommy's mess, only to make it several-fold worse.

The smell of toasting bread wafted through the air as a pat of butter began to sizzle in the pan. Half a block of cheese sat shredded on a cutting board. There was also a glob of it stuck to the ceiling, but that wasn't important right now.

"Yo! Billy, you want a grilled cheese?"

This vision of domesticity was not what Billy expected to see first thing upon entering their suite, but after a powers training session with Wanda, it was a deeply welcome greeting. "Sure, thanks. I didn't know you can cook."

Tommy shrugged. “I’m always hungry.” Toast popped up and was buttered within the blink of an eye as the speedster began to pile on the cheese.

Billy glanced up and caught sight of . . . was that cheese hanging from the ceiling like curdled stalactites? He probably should leave it well enough alone, let Tommy clean his own mess, but he was being so kind as to fill his empty tummy, so Billy could pitch in to help. "So, Wanda's been trying to teach me about my powers," he said as he reached for that uneasy power he always felt inside him. It was a low rumbling now, probably because he was exhausted by what Wanda had been putting him through, but surely there was enough to make the place spick and span. "She says I basically make things that shouldn't happen more likely to happen. Or something like that. I still don't really understand."

The telltale glowing blue rings around his wrists and crown on his head illuminated. And above them, the cheese goop started to harden and crack.

Suddenly, it blew apart, sending cheese shards flying across the kitchen. Tommy jumped back in surprise, frying pan getting knocked back by the action.

The burner flames were all of a sudden a lot higher.

"Fire! Fire!" Billy's first instinct was to douse it with water. Apparently no one ever told him the correct wait to put out a grease fire, because he'd already filled a glass from the tap and was poised to dump it over the stovetop. "Put out the fire, Tommy!"

Tommy ran to get the fire extinguisher as Billy threw the water, dousing him and not the stove in the process. It didn't matter much. In a few moments Billy was equally covered in foam as the speedster sprayed the red can from the hallway with abandon.

But good news! Tommy's interference extinguished the conflagration before it could spread and stopped Billy from spreading a grease fire with water. The only consequences were the loss of the meal and Billy being Carrie'd by the foam.

"Tommy."

The other mutant blinked for a moment.

“Billy.”

Then: “My grilled cheese!”

The twisted buzzing in his gut that Billy called to him, and he responded without thinking. Even though that's maybe what got them into this mess in the first place. Sure, he had ruined Tommy's carefully and considerately prepared meal by being so impulsive, but that simply meant he had to make amends. Reaching for that power again, he visualized his goal as Wanda had directed: for the fire extinguisher foam to simply vanish.

In a flash of blue, it was all gone and the place was spotless.

A few more blinks.

"Dudeeee!!! You're getting better at that!" Tommy poked his grilled cheese, and it seemed no worse for wear. In a moment it was down his gullet. A little bit of foam never hurt anybody.

"I'm going to take a shower." Billy still felt scuzzy after all that and needed some actual soap. Neither he nor Tommy could have anticipated the horrified shriek coming from the bathroom a minute later, and Billy ran out wearing only a towel and what could only be described as a parka of foam. "The plumbing is broken! It's not water, it's just this stuff!"

The speedster cackled, but his jubilation was short-lived as he had chosen that exact moment to turn on the sink to wash his pan, and watched in horror as foam came rushing out of the faucet as well.

Unlike Billy, Tommy could move out of the way though. “I take back what I said about you getting better.”

Are we sure this isn't just his anxiety disorder trying to alert him to the many, many ways things will go wrong
