Angel and Sooraya (Backdated)
Jul. 29th, 2025 08:17 pmAngel drops in to surprise Sooraya with news of her return. Backdated to July 29.
Angel hummed as she made her way down the hall, knocking on Sooraya's suite door. This was the part she was most looking forward to - seeing her friend's reaction.
Now she just hoped Sooraya was home.
Sooraya looked up, eyes narrowing a little before hopping off the couch. Usually around this time it would only be Hopey to chat about her day or to just curl up on the couch with a movie. Still... "Coming." She called out as she grabbed a nearby scarf, quickly draping it over her hair. Moving quickly towards the door, she pulled it open, only for her eyes to widen. "ANGEL!!!" Her voice was just shy of a shriek. "What are you doing here?"
"Living!" Angel said with a grin, spreading her arms out. "I mean, yeah, I'm alive, but I mean I'm back! To stay!"
Quickly Sooraya moved into her friend's arms, returning the hug, before grabbing her hand and pulling her inside. "What do you mean? You're back here to stay?" Her eyes widened and she bopped Angel on her shoulder. "Why didn't you tell me?!?"
"I wanted to surprise you!" Angel giggled as she hugged Sooraya tight. "Are you surprised?"
"What do you think! Of course I am! And maybe a little annoyed you didn't tell me. We just talked last week on the phone." Sooraya reached up to her neck, to the slender silver and gold necklace she still wore often with Angel's name on it. "But what brings you back to the mansion?"
Angel shrugged, smiling. "I don't know, really. I just missed it. You know, my entire life has been here, and so many of my friends are still here, and I loved working in Seattle don't get me wrong, but it wasn't the same as doing X-Men stuff. And everything was good with my mom, so I figured it was time to come back."
A smaller, yet softer smile unfolded over Sooraya's face. "It's simply home, isn't it? Even with all the craziness that comes with it."
"I think the craziness is part of what makes it home," Angel admitted. "There's no brand of chaos quite like mansion chaos, right?"
"Not really, no." Sooraya shook her head before pulling Angel over to the couch, flopping down on it and pulling her friend along. "We've lived in that chaos of and on for over half our lives. Kinda weird to think about that." She mused. "Anyway... tell me... do you have any plans? Any adventures?"
"No plans or adventures yet," Angel says as she flops beside Sooraya. "Right now it's just moving in and getting settled. I already grabbed a suite, I'm going to turn the second bedroom into a dark room. Super excited about that. Gonna talk to Scott about rejoining the X-Men. But other than we're just winging it."
"Oh that dark room sounds exciting! You really want to focus on your photography?" Sooraya tilted her head a little. "Or still pretty broad in journalism?"
"I really enjoyed working for the paper in Seattle. But I think I want to focus down on just photography. I'm sure there's something good I can do with it." Angel shrugged. "Enough about me though! How have you been?"
"Good! Still wishing the day could have more hours though. Still run my projects, still work with the kids in the Underground and am at the community center quite a bit. Working with Scott on this leadership thing too, but that is a lot more on and off."
"There will never be enough hours in the day," Angel said with a sigh. "And honestly, even if there were, it still wouldn't be enough because we'd just find more stuff to do, ya know?"
"Yup, I think it's that forever a struggle. I've had to let a fair bit of the international stuff go for now... There just wasn't enough time." Sooraya shrugged a little. "You do what you can."
"So true." Angel nodded sagely. "And you know what we can do now? We can go out and get dinner."
"Hmmm, not a bad idea..." Sooraya tilted her head. "Any places you are thinking of?"
"No," Angel admitted. "But it's New York. At least two hundred restaurants must have opened since I left. Lets find one!"
"Hmm..." Sooraya titled her head for a moment, then leaned over to grab her phone. "How do you feel about Eritrean food? It's been a while since I had that and someone mentioned some place new had opened." Quickly checking something on her phone, she added: "And looks like they are open today."
Angel clapped her hands together and stood up. "Excellent, let's go!"
