Angel and Mel (Backdated)
Aug. 3rd, 2025 02:37 pmAngel and Mel meet, fly together, and talk Xavier's life. Backdated to August 3, 2025.
Angel climbed up to flyer's perch, spreading her arms out like she was expecting the air to give her a big hug. She took a few steps back, bounced up and down like she was preparing herself, then ran and launched herself over the edge and into the air with a loud cheer.
She was home.
“Well I’ll be.” A figure stood a ways away on the lawn with a hand covering her eyes, watching the fiery spectacle in the sky. It wasn’t Sam, but it felt reminiscent, Melody mused as she floated up to speak to whoever it was.
Angel saw the movement out of the corner of her eye and stopped to watch the approaching figure. She beamed and waved. "Hiya!"
"Howdy! I ain't seen you ‘round these parts before. I’m Mel.” Golden light enveloped the second flier and she waved back.
"I'm Angel," she introduced herself cheerfully. "I'm old-new. Lived here, left, lived here, left, live here again."
“Fair ‘nough. Seems to be a lot of folks do the same. I’ve been here jus’ shy of two years now.” And wasn’t that crazy to think about? Things had changed so much since she’d arrived.
"It's a good place." Angel looked down at the mansion, smiling. "Even if, you know, sometimes demons or something invade. Has that happened recently?"
Mel winced. “Um, I guess they weren’t demons really. Jus’ looked real like ‘em.”
"Aw man, and I missed it?" Angel shook her head, sighing. "Well I'm sure another one will be coming soon."
“Oh, don’t go cursin’ us now. It’s been such a peaceful summer,” the other mutant half chuckled. It was only a matter of time, though, or so she had learned. “So, when were you livin’ here then?”
"Let's see..." Angel looked at her fingers and began counting off. "I got here in oh-six, left briefly in eleven to study abroad, which ended up not working out, so I came back in twelve... and then I left again in twenty-eighteen. Living proof that you can go somewhere else but never really leave this place."
"Wow, yeah. Ya happy to be back then?"
"I am!" Angel giggled and did a little mid-air spin, climbing a few feet higher into the air. "I moved back in with my mom because she was getting death threats at her house - she's a lawyer and really big into mutant rights and stuff - and I love my mom, don't get me wrong. But there's nowhere I can go and be fully myself quite like I can be here, you know?"
The other flier watched wind blow through the trees below them with a thoughtful smile. It wasn't her mountains, but it was home. "I understand, I really do. My mama can be... yeah."
A small lull in conversation followed, before Mel picked back up again. "So, you workin' or something up here now as well? Or jus' waitin' to figure it out?"
"Oh I'm just chilling for now," Angel said, doing a little twirl. "I did a lot of photography for a newspaper in Seattle and I loved that, but I dunno if I want to go work at the Times now, ya know?"
"I get that," though she wasn't sure she quite did. Idle hands never brought much good around back home (or here for that matter). But the prospect of "just chilling" for once in her life sounded nice.
Angel tilted her head. She'd heard a bit about the Guthries, and she was pretty sure "chilling" wasn't really in their vocabulary. "Have you joined up with a team yet or are you just running around free?"
"Still trying t'find where I fit I suppose. Been trying things out but..." Mel shrugged. "I'm plenty busy with work for now, not goin' to fret about it too much. You?"
"X-Men. I had big superhero dreams when I was sixteen and I was here, so..." Angel shrugged. "I wouldn't change it for the world, though."
Mel nodded. "Fair 'nough. Y'all do a lot of good work." It was then that her phone started buzzing at her. She groaned, and did so again when looking at the caller ID. This was supposed to be her off day. "I have to take this, but it was real nice to meet you. M'sure I'll see ya round?"
"Absolutely. And if you don't, you can always look up."
