Amanda, Sarah - Wednesday afternoon
Jun. 30th, 2004 03:36 pmAmanda's turn for the brief visit. Although she had to wait until she could speak English again. She and Sarah try and talk about the serious stuff, but it's hard when the words go away. So they make plans for clubbing instead.
Sarah was bored. Really bored. So bored in fact, she was puppy hunting online. She'd never admit it though, bad reputation to maintain and all. And lo, a knock on the door. Closing her laptop, she moved it out of the way. "Come on in!"
"~Greetings~," Amanda said in Askani as she came in, then realised and tried again. "Heya," she managed in English this time. "Thought I'd drop by. Relieve the boredom." Her grasp of English was definitely improved from the day before, but there was hesitancy to her speech, as if she had to think about what she was saying. "Unless you don't want me to?"
Sarah looked at her with both eyebrows raised at the first Askani slip, grinning in amusement. "Nah, I need -somebody- to talk to. This place is driving me crazy."
"~Your graciousness is overwhelming,~" Amanda muttered wryly, pulling up a chair. She ignored Sarah's snicker at the Askani and went on. "I'd say my piece about yer flonq-awful tactics, but I figure yer've heard enough. And that would be a bit..." She paused, hunting for the word. "Not fair? No, that ain't it..." The noise she made was definitely a growl. "~Hypocritical.~"
Sarah shrugged. "It's a little hard to agree with you if I can't understand what you're saying. But thanks, I guess." She shifted in her bed, and stretched a little. "So how was your trip?"
"Mexico," Amanda clarified, then shrugged, glad to change the subject, especially since it was obvious her English was still too dodgy for serious topics. And she really didn't want to get into all this again. "The trip was... not borin'. 'Specially travellin' with Manny. You'd've liked Amsterdam - we met up with the Pack and went clubbin'." A distinctly wicked gleam came into her eyes. "Things got a bit out of hand."
Sarah just nodded at the clarification, before breaking into another grin. "A bit out of hand is a step in the right direction, I say." She pushed her hair back behind her horns and continued, "We'll have to go clubbing soon. It's been a while since I've been." She shrugged again. "I was distracted."
"Been plottin' with Pete for Angelo's... ~day of birthing~... bugger, _birthday_," Amanda said. "Clubbin' an' a piss up in New York, stayin' overnight. 'S at the end of July - I dunno if you'll still be around then, but if you are, it could be a laugh."
"We'll see. Depends on how things go once I get out of here. I don't even know if they'll let me back now." She leaned back onto her pillow, and crossed her arms loosely across her chest. "I know Shinobi wants to stay," she said, smiling a little, "he's all set on that X-men stuff."
It was hard not to look _too_ pleased at that news. "This is the X geezer we're talkin' about. Seems pretty hard t' get yerself chucked out of this place - look at John. He joined the other side an' he's still hangin' 'round like... ~the stench of a week-old corpse.~" She shook her head. "Flon... _Fuck_. I'm startin' t' think this telepathic learnin' thing is more trouble 'n it's worth."
"Yeah, it looks that way," she said, though the tone of her voice suggested that she wasn't entirely convinced she couldn't get kicked out if she tried really, really hard. She grinned at Amanda, "Look on the bright side. 'Flonq' is kind of catchy. Before you know it, the whole mansion'll be using it."
"An' Manny'll be cuttin' our heads off in the middle of the night 'cause he's convinced we're all pod people," Amanda said wryly. She tilted her head at Sarah. "What 'bout you? Whether they let you stay or not, what d'you wanna do?"
"I dunno," she shrugged, suddenly finding the scars that used to be on her hands incredibly interesting. You could still see them, sort of, if you squinted. "I spend all my time here feeling like I don't fit in, but when I'm gone, I miss hanging out with you guys. I like being on my own, though, and not feeling obliged to play nice."
"We miss you too." When Sarah glanced up, Amanda squirmed a little awkwardly. "I know I didn't sound like it last time we talked, but I was pissed off an'... An' I didn't want you t' go." The words came out in a rush. "Stupid, I know, but sometimes it seems like every time I let meself care for people,. they up an' run. An' when Jono said you'd gone off on yer own, I thought..." The English failed her again. "~I thought I'd lost a friend for good, and it made my heart hurt, sister.~" Amanda sighed. "Flonq."
"Flonq indeed," she agreed, nodding. "You want to put the emotional discussions on hold till you've got English by the balls again? Besides, the docs'll be in here any second to run you off. It's been more than fifteen minutes," she said and motioned to the clock on the wall. "When I get out of here, it'll be you, me and a pack of cigarettes. We'll either talk this whole thing out, or kill each other."
Amanda gave her a brief smile. "Thought you would have had enough of bein' dead by now," she said wryly, the tremble leaving her voice. There was a tap on the door, and she pulled a face. "Time's up. I'll catch you when they let you out. Fags're on me."
