Backdated to Sunday and set a little while after Scott and Alex talk, Alex returns to his room to find Mariko Yashida there looking through her cousin's stuff. They worry together, talk about Shiro (good and bad things), and Mariko decides that Alex is probably the best thing that's ever happened to Shiro.

Mariko Yashida had to admit that she was impressed by the facilities Xavier's Institute had to offer. Her money (well, Keniuchio's actually) was certainly going to a good cause. Except she was a bit concerned about the attacks and abductions and disappearances that seemed to be a semi-regular occurence. While Shiro always told her everything (well, almost everything, but she let her cousin keep his secrets), she was not prepared for word of a magical kidnapping. Xavier's and Strange's words did little to soothe her. She's a control-freak, and magic is way beyond her expertise. It was Not Good.

She had flown to the States just hours after receiving word of Shiro's disappearance, and decided to take Xavier up on his offer to stay at the mansion until the children returned. She of course had the utmost confidence in Shiro's ability to take care of himself, but that didn't make her want him back home any less. So now, to calm her down a bit, she was taking a little tour of Shiro's dorm, inspecting it with the critical eye of a mother.

Finally, Alex had left Scott's room because even hung over, his big brother wanted to get some work done. So that left Alex with finding something else to do with his time, which would probably end up finding Lorna and entertaining worried kids again as they had been for the last few days. But it could wait until he'd had a shower. He padded barefoot into his room, stripping his sweatshirt off as he came through the door so he didn't notice the intruder until he was right next to her. He blushed quickly, for she was an older woman and he was now only dressed in sweat pants, and took a moment to regain his composure, after backing up a step. "Umm...I uh...hate to sound rude, but who are you and what are you doing in my room?" Blunt blonde at your service.

Mariko had been perusing through the books on Shiro's shelf (mostly manga, not surprisingly, with a few textbooks here and there) when Alex walked in. Although he had startled her, she didn't show it. "Oh, hello. You must be Alex. I am Mariko Yashida, Shiro's cousin. It's nice to meet you." Her voice had no trace of an accent, and she smiled politely, bowing and folding her hands in front of her when she rose.

Alex blinked then remembered the sudden influx of parental units to the mansion, especially those of the missing kids. He grinned bashfully, running a hand through his hair. He gave her an awkward bow in return. "Yeah I'm Alex and it's nice to meet you. Just wish it wasn't like this..." He quickly slipped his sweatshirt back on as he spoke, knowing Shiro would probably have killed him for talking to his cousin practically half naked.

And while she certainly enjoyed the view, she had no interest in children. Her smile widened just a fraction as Alex pulled his shirt back on, and she nodded her head. "Yes, I would most certainly have preferred to have met you as you and Shiro came off the plane in Tokyo. But please, don't let me interrupt you if you needed to change. There is plenty more to do and see around here."

Alex shook his head, going over to sit on his bed, his hands in the front pocket of his shirt. "No it's alright..." he gave her small smile. "Was just getting ready to go help my girlfriend babysit the kids that are left again and I really could use the break."

"So I gather that the younger children are having a difficult time?" Mariko asked, taking a seat at the end of her cousin's bed. "Have they been told what caused this sudden vanishing act?"

Alex nodded. "And it's not only the younger kids. My girlfriend is a bundle of nerves and will barely let me out of her sight, my brother got drunk last night for the first time in his life and I..." he realized how childish it would sound to admit he was having nightmares, "I'm really worried about Shiro." Then he shook his head at her second question. "No not yet, I wasn't aware they had figured it out..." He thought back to a previous conversation with Lorna and hoped beyond hope they had been wrong.

Mariko wore a sympathetic smile. She liked this boy, he seemed to be every bit as caring, honest, and good a person as Shiro had made him out to be. "From what I understand, they were somehow magically transported to another dimension." It sounded like something straight out of Shiro's DVD collection, and she obviously was having a hard time believing it. "I have been told repeatedly that Shiro is safe, if that's any consolation."

Alex couldn't help his sigh of relief. "As odd as that sounds, it's better then the things we were coming up with on our own. If they're safe, then we can get them back...if there's one thing this school is good at...it's finding wayward students."

"Dr. Xavier apparently has an expert on the case." She got back to her feet and walked slowly around the room again, deciding to take her tour of Shiro's living space while she spoke with his roommate. "What theories were you devising?"

"They were...huh...not good." He shuddered at the very thought, despite his relief. They sat in silence for a moment since it was obvious Alex really didn't wanna talk about it. "So...anything I can help you find out about Shiro and his life here?"

"Tell me about the girls," Mariko said, her smile becoming just a bit saucy. "That is one thing he leaves out in his e-mails to me. Does he have a girlfriend yet?"

Alex could hold in a small laugh. "He leaves it out for good reason. He really doesn't have one in fact...I'm not sure there is a girl who would date at this school just yet..." Alex gave her a grin. "His attitude has kind of turned off the school's female population and most of the male as well."

She had to laugh at that. Some things never change, it seems. "Color me shocked. I hope he hasn't made the entire population here hate him, present company excluded."

Alex grinned. "Well, I don't think the entire school completely hates him yet. Just most of it. I've tried to get him to lighten up a bit and I think it's working. He's been racing some of the teachers and he has a fencing partner. Clarice is the purple girl you might have seen around here. We're...we're working on it."

"'Yet' being the operative word. I officially entrust you to make my cousin a semi-normal human being, Alex," Mariko said, laughing and tossing her long black hair over her shoulder. "The sooner he learns how to deal with people, the better. He is a smart young man, and very passionate, but he lacks anything remotely related to people skills."

Alex snorted with a laugh. "Got that right. And don't worry, I've already made it my self proclaimed mission. I mean, it's the least I can do for all he's done for me." He leaned back against the wall, still smiling. He liked Shiro's cousin and was amazed at how opposite they were...

"The fact that you two are so close gives me hope." She put her hands over her heart, exaggerating how touched she felt. "He will be a fully functional member of society before log, ne?" She chuckled and took a seat at Shiro's desk, spotting his laptop. She opened it and turned it on, smiling when she got the log-in password in only two tries. "Also tell him to not be so predictable. I might do naughty things with this, now."

Alex stood up and looked over her shoulder. "Good lord, it's like anime mecca!" He exclaimed as the screen popped up. "Now I know why he would never let me use it."

"If you ever feel the need to blackmail him, the password is 'yunaxlulu.'" She sighed in exasperation as she began to search through his hard drive. "What was it I said about him being smart? I take it all back."

"The information I will never forget. Dude, I could so have fun with that." Alex laughed gleefully. "His heart's usually in the right place...his mouth just needs to learn to not go so far ahead."

"You have him down to a T. Oh, what's this?" She opened a folder marked 'Models,' and gaped at what she saw. "These are pictures of . . . Elizabeth Braddock? Since when did Shiro follow professional modeling?"

Alex blinked in surprise, not believing Shiro had pictures of a teacher on his computer. Especially these pictures... "Well uhhh...she's kind of a teacher here..." Alex didn't think it was his place to mention the whole Kwannon thing.

Mariko raised her eyebrow. "Is she now? How interesting. Well, I guess that answers the question about Shiro being interested in women." She chuckled softly and got up, thoroughly amused by the crush but concerned for his welfare. Maybe a talk with Braddock was in order, woman to woman. "Well, I am going to get going, complete my tour of this place. If you need anything, Alex, or hear something about Shiro, I am staying in the guest suites." She bowed again. "It was nice meeting you."

Alex bowed to her, more confident this time, grinning. "It was my pleasure. And I seriously can't wait to see you again in Japan." Because Shiro will be home safe again...he will!
