Who: Manuel de la Rocha, Jubilation Lee
Where: Rose Garden
When: Backdate this one waaaaay back to just before the Punishment
What Happens: Manny and Jubilee reconnect after everything that's gone on in their lives.
Jubilee leaned down and breathed in the scent of the roses. She'd needed a break from the house, and the rose garden was always somewhat quiet at this time of day. She was wearing a yellow sundress today, something simple, as while her arm was mostly healed and they'd removed the caste, they wanted her to keep it in the sling for at least one more of Amanda's healings. She felt somewhat naked without her customary yellow jacket, vulnerable to attack. She'd be glad when her arm was fully healed and she could wear it again.
She wondered how Manny was doing. She hadn't met him in the garden like she'd promised and he hadn't tried to talk to her since. She missed him, but she was afraid of what he'd say if she talked to him. She didn't want to lose another friend.
Manuel walked into the rose garden, his eyes glowing just the faintest bit red. He was looking for Jubilee, and he could feel her in the garden. A tangled ball of sadness, concern, pain, and loss - never a good mix, he thought. He let the probe die as he turned the corner into view.
"Hola, senorita. Spare some time for a poor Spaniard?" he said with a grin on his face. "That's a very pretty dress. You really should wear such things more often. They suit you."
Jubilee looked over her shoulder and rolled her eyes. "Dude, poor Spaniard? Who you tryin' to fool? How ya been, Manny?"
He always had the ability to make her smile, no matter what her previous mood. Outrageous flattery had its place as well but it wasn't what made her like him. Shrugging mentally and deciding she'd been doing way too much mental gymnastics in regards to how she felt about people lately, she straightened, stepping back from the rosebush.
"Apparently, nobody." he said with an exaggerated put-upon sad look. "No love for Spaniards." He grinned. "And I'm doing well. More importantly, how are _you_ doing?"
Maybe if she was lucky a horde of aliens would attack the school at this very moment, thus save her from this conversation that she didn't want to be having. Looking up at the sky, she noted the total lack of alien spacecraft with a sigh. In the end, as much as she might want to avoid conversations about her feelings, she wasn't a coward.
"Depends on your outlook, I guess. How am I doing in a general life type direction of the word 'doing'? Samson's pretty sure with a lot of therapy I won't turn into an International assassin bent on revenge. Although, I'd totally look hot in a black leather body suit. Still, there's the whole murdering people in cold blood issue, so I guess it's a career choice I ain't that sad about losing. In a more specific, how am I doing since I almost killed Amanda in a fit of stupidity thus far unparalleled in the arena of stupid acts I have committed? Scared that I let myself get that far out of control, and absolutely terrified that I'm gonna lose your friendship because of it."
Manuel sighed. "Well, I'm still here." he pointed out. "Not running away, not slandering your name behind your back - or in front of you, for that matter. Although I do agree that you'd look very hot indeed in a black wet-leather bodysuit. You've got the build for it." he said appreciatively.
"In all seriousness, though, don't worry about it. I'm still your friend. Make no mistake; I am not _pleased_ with this turn of events. Don't lose sight of that. But I am so far unwilling to turn you out for it. I just wish you had talked to me before hauling off like that."
Jubilee nodded. "She caught me right after I'd left you that morning. She said some things about how with me being a virgin and all, you couldn't possibly have enjoyed it. I let my ego do my talkin' for me, and told her some complete crap about you sayin' I was better then anyone else you'd had and pretty much went for the kill with some seriously nasty comments. It's not stuff I'm proud of."
She looked at the roses, at the sky, and then back at him before squaring her shoulders for what she had to say next. "I've had a lot of time to think about things, Manny. I used you, you know? I didn't really think I was at the time but looking back...I've never felt that way about anyone before. There's not exactly a huge amount of guys around here who see me that way, and so I ignored the fact that you were with Amanda. Even if deep down I knew she was gonna have a problem with us, even with you two being in an open relationship. That's not something a friend does, Manny. I should have been thinkin' about what it'd do to you. I should have said no and told you why it wouldn't work out. Only I didn't, because I wanted to know what it was like to be with someone."
Manuel shrugged. "That makes a certain amount of sense, but keep this in mind. I _let_ you do this. I'm an _empath_, remember? It's not like you can lie to me about anything. I _let_ you use me. I used you just as much as you used me." he said. "I for one only regret the childish fight you and she felt the need to indulge in.
"And I would like to spend some more time with you." he said with a pleasing leer. "You have some very good instincts."
Jubilee laughed, relaxing slightly. "Dude, you are seriously incorrigible, you know that? Here I am bein' all strong when you gotta know I still want you, Mr Empath. What about Amanda though? Dude, I know you love her. I wouldn't be much of a friend if I did somethin' to cause trouble between you two, ya know?"
Manuel grinned. "I appreciate the consideration, but that aspect of things has been handled." he said. "And we can hang out, do whatever you'd like." he said with another evil grin. "Besides, wasn't it your Holy Mission given to you by the spirits of your ancestors to broaden my horizons of all things pop culture?"
Jubilee grinned and her expression was positively devilish. "Well, I have been meaning to make you watch Nsynch videos."
Manuel rolled his eyes. "I may not know pop culture, but I do know music. You will have to offer me _much_ to get me to sit through NSync videos." he said with a leering smile. "And now that I think of it - how is that arm feeling?"
"It's still sore but nothing that can't be worked around. You can open negotiations while I'm makin' popcorn, Dude. Afterall, I'm sure our Speech teacher would be terribly unimpressed if I didn't try and get the best possible deal I could." Jubilee replied, her expression not unlike that of a certain Disney cat.
Manuel smirked. "Well then - your room or mine?" he said with a grin. "I have suitemates, but no roomies." he added.
