Oct. 10th, 2004 01:00 amMoira finally wanders back upstairs to Nathan, after demons and whatnot, and crashes next to him.
Moira placed the coffee mug in the little sink and headed into the bedroom. The link was sluggish but it meant that at least he was starting to wake up. "Nathan? Ye completely awake, love?"
The bed was so comfortable. Warm and comfortable, like he was floating... He heard Moira's voice and opened his eyes, seeing nothing but blue feathers. "Bella... move," he murmured groggily.
"Sleep! Gosleep!"
Laughing in delight, she edged her way around the bed and sat next to the pair. Bella perched on Nathan's forehead and looked irritable. "Is 'e bein' bad, Bella?" she asked cheerfully.
"Sucky baby!" Bella proclaimed and then hopped up to the headboard, climbing the carved wooden pillar without leaving a scratch.
"Bitch of a bird," Nathan murmured, blinking up at Moira. His vision was swimming in and out of focus, but he could tell that Moira was smiling. "Just slept away even more of the day, didn't I?"
"Mmmhmm. Lost count o' th' 'ours, actually, but tha's okay. Ye really needed it."
"Everyone okay?" he asked, trying to wake up a little more. Last time he had, his head had been killing him and she'd given him a couple of pills and that look that meant she wasn't taking no for an answer.
"So far, aye. Remy hasnae shown back up yet an' Amanda an' Maddie are restin' easy." Reaching up, she brushed aside some hair from his forehead and Bella yelled to be petted. "Illyana got tangled up, though, so she's now in th' MedLab as well."
"That's good," he said sleepily, not catching her last sentance, his eyes closing again at the gentle touch. He really ought to be more... excited about all of this, but between the odd, drifty feeling that had come along with the backlash and the little pills, he wasn't feeling particularly interested. If everyone was all right, that was good. Other people could look after the rest.
"Aye, 'tis. 'as Bella been keepin' ye company?"
"Sleeping!" Bella chirped from the top of the pillar, and then divebombed the bed, narrowing missing Moira's head. "Whee!"
"You could call it that," Nathan said, opening his eyes again and smiling. "If you were feeling generous..."
"O' ye know ye love yer," she said, grinning, ducking again as Bella made another swoop. "She's active today, been sleepin' wit' ye or jus' keepin' watch?"
"Little bit of both, I think." His eyes did a little better at focusing, and he gazed up at Moira, his smile turning a little rueful. "Overextending myself three days after psionic surgery. Not one of my brighter ideas. I was dreaming about Charles giving me That Look... I'm not sure it was a dream."
"Knowin' Charles? 'e probably projected it inta yer brain. Scootch over some, love, I'm goin' ta rest wit' ye an' Bella." She waited until he had shifted slightly before sliding up next to and snuggling down. "Feel better?"
"Much. Head's hardly hurting..." He shifted a little, so that he was as curled up around her as it was possible to be. "Still tired, though. Another night of sleep should fix that, no?"
"Aye, probably. Sleep, some food, ye'll be good as new in a day or two. 'ad me worried for a while, though."
"I keep doing that. Why do you keep me around?" He kissed the top of her head as she shifted a little closer, and wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"Because yer sexy?"
"Oh, right. I forgot that one."
"Mmm, sexy if stubborn."
Bella was cooing softly, from somewhere that sounded like the foot of the bed. Then there was a thump. Bird landing on floor. "Gosleep!" she called cheerfully. "Good! Gosleep! Night!"
"Bella, _ye_ gosleep!" Moira called back, lifting her head off the pillow slightly.
There was something very odd on the link. "Were there demons?" Nathan muttered sleepily, not really all that curious.
"Aye, there were demons. They're all gone now, thankfully." Moira paused and sighed. "I said tha' without battin' an eye, bloody 'ell, I'm gettin' used ta all o' this."
"Mmm... jaded. That's the word..." He was still so tired. He held her closer and drifted back off to sleep.
"Jaded, aye, tha's me allright." Snuggling closer, she allowed sleep to wash over her as well.
