Backdated to last night. Madelyn gives Moira some news. Moira shares her news - or should that be 'their' news? - with Nathan. Yes. It's that kind of news.

This was going to wear off. He was almost positive of that. Euphoria, if that was what you wanted to call this, really wasn't meant to last forever, and he was sure that once he actually started living day to day with his precognition again it would not seem like such a good thing. Really.

Even if it still felt just... marvelous, right now. Sitting cross-legged on the living room floor, Nathan took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. The sensation of... weight, of balance, was the next thing to intoxicating. He could feel the patterns spinning outwards into the dark, knew he should be trying to analyze them more closely. Right now, though...

Moira paused outside their suite door and leaned her head against the cool wood paneling. She had just spent the last hour and a half downstairs with Madelyn, switching from being hysterical to happy back to hysterical and then it all wound up as a solid knot of fear in her gut. They had talked about it, she knew, but not so soon! Not...argh. With a sigh, she nudged the door open and shut it behind her.

"Nathan? We need ta talk?" Wrapping her arms around her stomach, she carefully kept all those thoughts away from the link. Moira wanted Nathan to know but she wanted, needed, to say it out loud.

Nathan opened his eyes and looked up at her, dropping the shield on the link - he hadn't thought it would be a good idea to leak too much of what he was sensing at her while he was meditating. "Hey," he said with a warm smile that turned a little hesitant as he saw the look on her face. "What's wrong?" he asked, rising.

Walking over, she stopped a few feet away and chewed on her lip. "Um, I was...I went ta see Maddie," she confessed. "We bot' know I've nay been feelin' well an', well, I decided it was time ta see wha' was up."

A flash of real worry crossed his features as he straightened. "Not the ulcer again?" he asked sharply. Damn, please not the ulcer again... Although given all the stress she'd been under the last couple of months, it would make too much sense.

"Nay...really. Um. Though this could cause it ta flare up again." Moira looked up at him, suddenly dangerously close to bursting into tears (again). Logically, she knew he wouldn't be mad but emotionally she was scared to death about all of this. For all sorts of different reasons. "I'm...o' bloody 'ell! Nathan, we're...I'm pregnant!"

Nathan stared at her, mouth hanging open, eyes wide. The first noise that came out of his mouth was nothing approaching coherent words.

He stopped, swallowing, and tried again. "You're pregnant?" he whispered. She nodded, her eyes bright with tears, and her end of the link abruptly flared with a wild, almost dizzying mixture of thoughts and emotions. She was scared to death, yet also...

For a moment longer, he just stared at her, his mind absolutely blank. Then the blankness broke, all at once, and he was moving rapidly across the room to enfold her gently in his arms, hardly able to speak for the pure joy that swept through him like a tidal wave.

She whimpered and buried her face in his chest, holding on as tightly as she could. The fear was still there, oh boy was it still there, but she was letting herself feel that joy that she had felt when she first found out. "Nay mad?" she managed to say, shaking a little bit.

"Mad--" He was shaking too, unable to help it. "How could I ever be--no, Moira." He drew back a little, shifting until he could take her face between his hands, a helpless, incredulous smile tugging at his lips as he gazed down into her eyes. #Are you okay?# he sent, tenderness washing down the link.

#I...dinnae know,# she admitted, leaning into the touch. #I'm scared, Nathan. Terrified. But...God, so 'appy.# Moira opened her eyes and looked at him, almost a little shy. #Ye?#

#I--# He stared down into her eyes, utterly lost. #I don't think... there really aren't words, Moira.# Nathan leaned in and kissed her gently. #I love you,# he sent, the link swelling, full to bursting of all the things that didn't fit into words. #I love you, and it's going to be okay... it's going to be wonderful...# He wrapped his arms around her more carefully, holding her to him.

Clinging to him tightly, she held back a sob. "I'm goin' ta be bitchy," she warned, voice muffled as she attempted to burrow deeper into his warmth. "Irritatin', even."

"It's okay," he murmured, a ripple of laughter in his voice. "Consider it payback for all the times I've driven you to distraction without a decent excuse..." He kissed the top of her head and caressed the link again, wrapping her in his mental presence with a ferocious sort of gentleness.

Another deep breath. "I'm...'avin' 'enry take a look at me genetics. Yers ta, probably. I jus' want ta make sure everythin's goin' ta be okay. After Kevin...I couldnae survive another one, Nathan, I couldnae!"

"Anything we need to do," Nathan swore softly, still holding onto her tightly. "And you know damned well that Henry and Charles and Maddie will do anything they need to do, too. You have support here that you never had with Kevin."

"I know...gah, nay goin' ta cry. I'm nay."

"If you want to cry, cry," Nathan whispered, stroking her hair, amusement quivering in his voice again. "If you want to beat the crap out of me, we could arrange that, too..."

She poked him in the ribs. "Dinnae tempt me." Blinking, she drew back a little and smiled up at him, a little hesitate. "We're goin' ta 'ave a baby," she whispered.

Nathan shook his head slowly, wonder written all over his face. He reached up a hand and tucked a stray lock of hair back behind her ear, his eyes locked on hers in dazed, happy fascination. "I can't believe it," he said with a helpless laugh, his eyes stinging. "I know we... but it's real, and..." Yeah, the words were just not coming tonight. He hugged her again, taking a deep, shaky breath. "Oh, I love you," he murmured fiercely. "So much."

"Love ye ta." Right now, she decided firmly, all the worries could wait. Reaching up, she hooked an arm around his neck and tugged down, kissing him fiercely. Now was a time to celebrate.

"You," he said very firmly, when they finally had to take a break for air, "have got to start taking it a little easier. No more twelve hours a day in the lab." Priorities. There were new priorities now. Oh, yes. This was all going to require some careful thought.

"I know," Moira half-grumbled, already realizing all the things she was now going to have to keep an eye on. Not just watching out for herself anymore. "I'll figure somethin' out."

"We both will," Nathan said firmly, leading her over to the couch so they could sit down. He rubbed her back soothingly as she leaned against him. "It's going to be okay," he whispered, feeling the flickers of fearful thoughts still touching on the link. "There's two of us this time. And damn it, if I don't have better genes than Joe's..."

Giggling, she nuzzled contentedly. "Much better than Joe," she responded, nodding firmly.

Why was he talking about Joe? He kissed the top of her head as she settled against him. "I'm almost afraid of seeing you glow, you know," he murmured, knowing he was babbling just a little. "You're so beautiful right now. If you started doing that pregnant glowing-thing, people would be going blind..."

Idly, Moira swatted at him. "I will nay glow," came the grumped reply. "An' if I do, they can simply bask in me glowyness. Nay tha' I will, mind ye."

"I think there will be glowing," Nathan said seriously. Then his eyes widened. "So, not the flu at all. Morning sickness. I remember morning sickness..." He grinned down at her suddenly, almost foolishly. "Have you had any weird cravings yet?"

"Nay yet, give me time though." Shoving over, she forced her way onto his lap. "Bizarre cravin's tha' include 'aggis. An' ice cream. Together. I remember tha' one. Rory threw up."

Cuddling was good. There would be lots and lots of cuddling, Nathan told himself firmly, wrapping his arms around her as she settled down into the new position. "Well, you know, we do have intercontinental teleporters around here..." He paused, giving her a more serious look. "When do you want to tell people? People in general, I mean. I know the rest of the medstaff and Charles need to know right away."

"I'm nay sure." An idea was brewing in the back of her head, though, and she propped her head on his shoulder to think about it.

"We could certainly use some good news around here," Nathan said, but something didn't feel quite right about it. He frowned a little. "Is it weird to want to keep this to ourselves for a while longer, though?" he asked a bit tentatively. "Just until... well, until we're both a little less in shock about the whole thing?"

"Ours," she agreed, firmly. "Maybe...right before the winter break. Before th' 'olidays?"

Nathan smiled suddenly, brilliantly. "'Merry Christmas. We're expecting'?"

"Hah! I like tha'. Actually..." Shifting a little, Moira looked at him, giving him a slightly smaller version of the puppy dog eyes. "Perhaps we could 'ave a party or somethin'? New Years Eve? Invite everyone over?"

Nathan grinned. "I've been inviting people to Muir already - hope that wasn't overly presumptuous of me?" She just laughed at him. "But this... this is a real reason to celebrate, now."

Shifting even more so that she faced him, she placed her arms around his neck and grinned. "Verra much a reason ta celebrate, love," Moira replied, beaming at him. "Scary but fun."

"We're going to be excellent parents, you realize," Nathan said, his voice a bit hoarse and his chest a bit tight, despite the fact that he was still smiling, still happy. "He or she will be some scary little prodigy. There will be nurturing. And spoiling."

Her hands were shaking, she realized. "Much wit' th' spoilin'. An' lovin'." No, there was no hitch in her voice. None at all.
