When: Backdated to Friday 21st January 2005. Time: 11pm
Who: Remy and Jubilee
What Happens: Remy comes to visit Jubilee after her accident. They talk, Jubilee tells him about the talk she had with Amanda and Remy gives Jubilee lesson number 3.

Jubilee swam slowly into consciousness, aware of the smell of cigarette smoke around her. "Petite, de first thing dat you need to learn is dat fire is for de end of de cigarette and de fireplace. Not a fashionable choice for de winter."

Jubilee blinked for a second, trying to get the sleep out of her eyes as she focussed on the Cajun. "Gumbo?" she croaked.

"Oui. Had to kill a man to get in here. Dat's going to be fun to explain." Remy said, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. "How you feeling?"

Jubilee shuffled herself up to a sitting position, careful not to let her hands touch anything. "Been better, Remy. But it's mostly no worse then bad sunburn, cept the hands. Haven't asked Mads yet how long those are gonna take but they're second degree burns. Remind me never to work with hot oil ever again, hey?" Jubilee replied, finally awake enough to hold an intelligent conversation.

"That I can do." Remy nodded. "Besides, Remy tries to avoid fried cooking whenever possible."

"An you call yourself a Cajun, Gumbo? For shame." Jubilee replied, eyes twinkling. "Haven't seen you round much."

"Cajun cooking ain't fried, petite. One day, you come down to de Big Easy, and Remy show you proper food." Remy said, filling the plastic cup on the sideboard from the pitcher and poking through the straw. "Been outside for de last while. Things to deal wit"

Jubilee nodded, curious. "Dude, you so know giving me an open like that ain't wise. Now I've gotta nag you till ya tell me what you been dealin' with. An totally wouldn't mind visitin' New Orleans. Madre Gras, Dude. Think of all the beads I could collect."

"Remy glad you looking forward to shaking your breasts at de crowd, petite." He handed over the glass of water. "As for de rest, dat is a story for another time. Another time a while from now."

Jubilee took a sip, grinning at him. "Hey, not like I've currently got a line of guys wanting to see 'em here. Least, not less I want to go around destroying parts of the mansion again, anyhow. An I'm gonna hold you to that, Remy. Worry about you sometimes, ya know."

"Got lots of people worrying about me, petite. Its a little daunting." Remy said. "Might want to think about dating outside de mansion. Better chance of getting someone dats worthwhile."

"Been thinkin' of that, maybe when I start college, hey?" Jubilee replied, her hands resting against her knees. "Took me awhile to get used to people carin' about me too. Heck, wasn't till this that I actually figured out some things."

"Dat's not surprising. What you going to do in college? Noy going for de X-Men life?"

"Gonna be a cop, Gumbo. Funny as that sounds. An, not sure about the X-men. Need to change things, Remy. The way people think about us. An maybe just save someone from what happened to me, hey? Catch the bastards before they can kill people." Jubilee replied, tone excited.

"Cop?" Remy smirked. "Guess dats one way to look at things. Still, been on de other side too many times to take dat belief."

"Gotta do somethin', don't I?" Jubilee replied. "We gotta have visible mutants. Nothin' is gonna change less people see that we're just normal people, with maybe a few extra abilities."

"Dat's for you kids, petite. Remy always going to be in de shadows. Dats where I can make a difference." Remy smirked. "Cop, huh. You sure it not just a handcuff thing?"

Jubilee laughed. "Dude, ew!"

She leant back against the bed, smile still on her face as she turned her head to look at him. "So, you just came to see if I was okay?" she asked him.

"Well, dat and to steal Bartlett's purse. Figured dat you might want someone to talk to. A friendly face. " Remy smirked. "Or mine, if de friendly one isn't available."

Jubilee grinned. "Dude, desperately needed someone to talk to. Big Blue keeps beatin' me at scrabble, an it's so, so boring down here when all you've got to watch are American soaps. I think there's only so many ways you can have people betrayed by their elderly uncle's mother's brother before it gets so old. Least with the foreign language ones you can make up the words as ya go along."

"How long dey got you in for?"

"They're taking me up to Mad's suite tomorrow. Since she's a doctor and Carls is gonna be there ta get me stuff if I need it. Did I tell ya Amanda and I made peace? Weirdest thing in the world but I think...well, maybe it'll last this time, hey? Think maybe she an I understand each other this time."

She watched him, although it was a bit hard to see him properly lying down. He never seemed to relax, it was the first thing she'd noticed about him. Even now he seemed totally aware of everything around him. She wondered what he looked like asleep, whether he relaxed even then.

"Always better to make peace if you can, petite. Assuming you don't assume all de blame wit' it too." Remy said, watching her face. There was some of the pain of the burns there, but also that inquisitiveness she always put on around him.

Jubilee smiled, she was doing that more often these days. It still surprised her that she could find so many things to smile about. "Think I'm done with the guilt trips, ya know? Know that there were things I should've done differently but there was stuff they coulda done different too. Time for me to start lookin' in front of me, rather then behind."

"Dat's a good plan, chere. 'Bout time, too." Remy got up from his chair. "Which leads us to lesson three, you know."

"Was wonderin' when you were gonna tell me that. Been waitin', you know?" she said, gaze intent on him now.

"Lesson three, petite, is know what you are." Remy stuffed his hands in his pockets, looking at her from his slouch. "And Remy think dat you think you know what you are or at least, what you are wanting to be."

Jubilee nodded. "Took me a long time, an a lot of stumbles but I got there. How bout you, Rem? You know who you are?" she asked.

"Dat one going to take a lot longer to figure out, petite. But Remy got a good excuse for dat." He smiled ruefully. "And I think dat you not looking to be a t'ief or a spy. And if dat's de case, you just graduated de LeBeau school of non-Assassiny knowledge."

"No, not lookin' to be either of those. Although, ta be honest, think it was more that you took an interest in me, then the lessons themselves that kept me comin' back. What would the next lesson have been, hey? For curiosity sake." Jubilee asked.

She didn't want to be a thief or a spy but years of taking opportunities where they presented and a naturally honed sense of curiosity made her want to know things, want to know everything, really. You never knew when things would be useful.

"De next lesson?" Remy walked over to the bed, brushed his lips against her forehead and turned to walk out. "Hope it's one dat you never have to learn, petite." He said, and was gone.

Jubilee watched the door for a long time after he'd left, before slowly closing her eyes, a smile on her lips as she drifted back to sleep.
