They meet over breakfast and Carlie asks many questions.

Kurt had gone to the communal kitchen in search of some breakfast, and currently had his head buried in the fridge, hunting for something he could cook, since he felt like a hot meal. His back was to the door, naturally, and he failed to hear it open, occupied with his search.

Carlie had taken it upon herself to make Jubilee breakfast - considering the other girl was still fast asleep and snoring meant she had plenty of time to find the kitchen and then the food and cooking utensils. And Mad had snuck off to the medlab again... Carlie rolled her eyes. Still the workaholic. Coming in, she noted the voice muttering softly to itself in some sort of accent, but couldn't see the person themselves, the fridge door blocking her view. "Um, good morning!" she said, hoping this was a morning person who wouldn't take offence to her usual perkiness.

Kurt jumped, startled, and emerged from the fridge to see who it was. He blinked on finding a stranger, before realizing this must be Madelyn's sister and smiling at her. "Good morning."

Carlie's eyes went round. Blue. Tail. Fangs. Rather cute German accent... "Ohmigod, you must be Kurt, right? Mad was talking about you at Thanksgiving, and Jubilee told me you were blue and had a tail and she was right and I'm so pleased to meet you!" The words came out in a seemingly breathless rush, before Carlie paused to breathe and then realised she was once again letting her enthusiasm get in the way of her manners.

"I'm Carlie, Madelyn's sister. You're Kurt, right? Gymnastics and dance teacher?"

He blinked again, rather taken aback by the rush of words, but his smile widened, charmed by her enthusiasm. "Yes, that is me. A pleasure to meet you."

"I'm sorry if I offended you before - I tend to go a bit fan-girly with so many nifty people around..." Carlie stuck out her hand for him to shake. "But I am pleased to meet you. Any friend of Mad's, and the rest of it."

He reached out to shake her hand with a grin. "No offence taken. How are you finding the mansion?"

Jubilee hadn't mentioned the hands... Carlie managed to restrain herself from any further outbursts, although she was intensely curious about how he managed with only three fingers and ooh, it did feel interesting when he shook her hand. And the tail was moving around of its own accord, like a cat's almost. "It's... um, it's really cool," she managed, realising she was staring at him. The scars were amazing... something else the other two hadn't mentioned. Why didn't people tell her this stuff so she didn't get broadsided and look like an idiot? "I almost wish I didn't have to go home, you know? There's so many interesting people here, and not just because they're mutants. You're German, right? I've never met anyone from Germany before." She blushed a little, and the resemblance to her sister increased. "And God, I'm sounding like a total hick."

Kurt chuckled. "It is not a problem. Yes, I am German, from one of the travelling clans there. A child of the circus."

"The circus?" Not letting go of Kurt's hand, Carlie dragged him over to the table where she pushed him onto a chair. "Tell me all about it," she almost demanded, sitting opposite him and propping her chin on her hands with a rapt expression. "Were you born into a circus family? And what did you do? Trapeze, right? Jubilee said you were quite the gymnast, and you're certainly built for it..."

He grinned, always pleased to talk about this subject, and started to answer her questions. "Adopted, rather than born, but when I was so young I do not remember what came before. And yes, mainly trapeze work. Some displays of skill with the sword, occasionally, usually paired with my brother."

"Older or younger than you?" Carlie asked, pleased to be getting answers to her questions. "And any other siblings? Joe and Mad are so much older than me, they'd pretty much left home by the time I reached high school, it was almost like being an only child. And then they'd come home and it would all switch around again and I'd be the baby." She wrinkled her nose a little. "I love them all to death, but sometimes it's hard to walk in their shadows, you know?"

Kurt nodded. "I understand, though I have always known that my brother would lead the clan before me, being older and of the blood. I have... two younger sisters, also."

"Two?" Carlie grinned. "Mad probably has already told you how sorry she is… she says I'm more than enough. Did you travel a lot, with the circus? All over Europe?"

"We mostly stuck to Germany, but sometimes further afield, yes. If we got a booking elsewhere in Europe, we would go."

"Oh, I'd love to travel like that… I will, one day, once I finish school and start working, but that's so long." Carlie sighed dramatically, but a cheeky grin crossed her face. "How about you, Kurt? Don't you miss the circus, the travelling? And what brought you here? Not that you're probably a world-class gymnastics teacher or anything…"

He shrugged slightly. "A little - but I return frequently, and I am rather enjoying the change that is a settled life. It is good to experience new things, so I am being a teacher for a while."

"'New' is definitely one way of putting it," Carlie said with a giggle. "There's so much going on here… I wonder if I could get a transfer to Columbia or somewhere and live here instead?" She wasn't serious though, adding in the next breath. "Only that would mean turning everything upside down and leaving my friends and the mutant rights group is just starting to kick off, and Mom and Dad would miss me terribly. But maybe I can visit a lot - if people would like me to, that is?" The last was asked with a blatant flirty tone - she liked Kurt, but he really did need stirring up…

He smiled, blushing slightly at the tone - fortunately, Carlie didn't have her sister's experience with unusual skin colours, and was less likely to notice. "I think a lot of people here would like to see you visit as often as you wish".

"I hope so - I tend to be a bit of a brat sometimes," she admitted, but without a lot of shame. "So, you were making breakfast? I do good French toast, and I was going to make some for Jubilee, if I could find anything. If you'd like, I could make enough for three, if you find what I need?" She gave him her best 'aren't I cute?' smile. "I think we'd work well together."

He grinned. "French toast sounds very nice, yes. Remind me what is needed? Milk and sugar, I seem to remember..."

"And eggs. Those are sort of important. Do you have any bacon? Bacon always goes well on the side, and I know there's always fresh fruit in this place, from the times I've been poking around in here…" Carlie bounced to her feet, rattling off directions as she did, and which Kurt cheerfully obeyed.
