Log: Kitty and Illyana, January 16th-ish
Jan. 16th, 2005 11:54 pmKitty, 'Yana, and Lockheed have a Serious Talk. Backdated to January 16th or so, when Nathan and Lockheed had their conversation.
Shrugging into a t-shirt emblazoned with an Xavier Institute 'X', Illyana rubbed her eyes, trying to put the thought of a fire-breathing Lockheed out of her head. Reluctantly, she had to admit that he hadn't actually tried to hurt anyone (except maybe Remy LeBeau, although he seemed relatively unharmed, considering), and that although she'd probably given him reason to tear her throat out or eat her entrails, she was still breathing. She leaned over to touch her toes and fiddled with the cuffs of her jeans for a moment, rolling the whole thing over in her head.
She hated to be wrong. Not that she was admitting any being wrong at the moment, but if the thing hadn't charbroiled her yet, she was beginning to doubt that it did have any murderous intention toward her. It barely even hissed at her these days, since she'd stopped throwing things at it whenever it got too close. She stood up and sat cross-legged on her bed, sighing; Lockheed wasn't even as annoying as a dog, and she was beginning to suspect that perhaps it was she who was, if not crazy, then probably unreasonable. At least they didn't have something like Angelo's
drooling puppy in their room.
Of course, now that she was thinking of potentially having a possible change in heart, she was definitely going to get killed. That was dramatic irony, or so her English teacher had tried to impress upon her, mostly in vain.
"Well, who'd have thought," Kitty muttered to the dragon perched on her shoulder. "Really, I guess I should have expected this, what with what I know of your father. My failing, I guess. Oh, hi 'Yana," she added as she entered their room. "How're you doing?"
"Hey," Illyana said, leaning back on her elbows. "Not bad. How are you? Can it really breathe fire?" she asked, not bothering with pretext.
Kitty sighed, then shifted Lockheed off her shoulder onto her bed. "Well, it seems like it's a 'yes' and a 'no'. Nathan talked to him... Turns out he not only understands English but he thinks in English, too. He did breath fire, but only because Remy, the idiot, apparently gave him a cigarette, which I intend to have words with him about. He doesn't think he can do it on his own, yes, but I've been quite firm with him that Rule Number Three is 'no flaming in the house, near the trees, or at any people or pets.' Haven't I, Lockheed?"
Lockheed chirped, curling up into a little ball and tucking his nose under a wing.
"He ate a -cigarette-?" Despite herself, Illyana looked amused. "Well, now you know he can in fact eat anything he wants to. That's kind of appalling, actually. How do you know the next step from a cigarette isn't, say, an innocent schoolgirl's fingers?"
"Well, he doesn't... didn't understand cigarettes. He thought it was food - people put it in their mouth and it gets smaller. So, when Remy threw it at him he swallowed it. And it won't be eating anyone. Now that we know he knows English the argument that he doesn't understand the Rules is invalid. He definitely knows that eating people is against the Rules."
Illyana looked faintly suspicious. "And you don't... think he's particularly inclined to eat people, anyway? Say, in a moment of confusion? Now that you've talked to him. Or whatever."
That sounded almost on the verge of accepting. Kitty looked up at her roommate and grinned. "No, I don't. If he were going to eat anyone it'd be Jamie, and he hasn't even tried to take a bite out of him. Honestly, people feed him, and that makes them non-food from a purely animalistic view point."
"Huh." Illyana mulled that over for a few moments. "So, for example, if someone we knew were to, say, be nicer to him by not considering him a threat to her very magnanimous person, he wouldn't take it as an invitation to have a midnight snack? Ever? Without doubt?"
Kitty managed not to grin. "I think that that is exactly right," she said. "Not," she added, "that he'd object to the occasional gift of roast beef, should any magnanimous person have a desire to give it to him." And hey, now that she knew Lockheed understood her she could probably get a personal guaruntee out of him. "What do you say, Lockheed? Nod your head if you promise to not ever eat any of my roommates, past, present and future, ever, under any circumstance." She couldn't quite keep the smile out of her voice, and the dragon picked up on that. He opened an eye and
peered at her, before smiling an admittedly toothful grin at Kitty and nodding firmly.
Illyana eyed the teeth, eyed the nod, and smiled reluctantly; it -was- getting hard to think of him as evil. "Well, then, I shall -- inform any very magnanimous people that I happen to know that he's no
longer persona non grata, then." She paused, thought for a moment, then added, "Good dragon."
Kitty grinned and Lockheed let out a coo. "That is excellent news," Kitty said. "I'm sure any very magnanimous people you happen to know will be relieved by that information. Now..." She thumped down onto her desk chair. "Want to help me come up with a way to get Remy back for scaring him?"
