Set yesterday evening. Dani and a girl from Tai Chi decide to get pizza after class. Things go downhill from there.

"I am starving," Dani announced, zipping up her hoodie after class. She waved at their instructor and turned to one of her newer classmates, another high school girl named Karen, "Wanna get something?"

Nodding quickly, Karen stuffed her water bottle in her bag and put on her coat. "Oh def. I could use something to eat. My baby brother eats us out of house and home!" She rolled her eyes in mock annoyance.

"Try cooking for a school of teenagers!" Dani agreed, heading to the truck she'd borrowed. She had been going out after almost every class so she'd started taking a car out so she wouldn't have to depend on someone else to go out of their way to take her back, "but I bet I could eat a whole pizza."

Karen followed close behind. Since she lived in the city, she could just walk home, so she didn't have a car. Grinning, she climbed into the cab beside Dani. "I can imagine! I ususally have to make dinner for me and my brother and he's bad enough! A whole school full!" She knew Dani went to some boarding school of sorts, but there were tons of those around New York.

Dani shrugged, turning the radio down. Not everyone appreciated Conway Twitty at top volume, "I just make lunches usually and help prep for dinner, which ain't so bad. Lots of sandwiches and other easy foods," grinning she pulled into the nearby pizzaria, "And it makes snacking easier."

"Still..." Karen shook her head as she got out of the truck, pulling her bag with her. "I can't imagine making food for that many people. I mean what kind of place is this that the students have to help with food?" She smirked, kidding really. She knew Dani well enough to know the girl would help even if the place had a staff full of chefs.

Dani shrugged, tugging her sleeve down to cover the inhibitor, "I'm on full scholarship. It's the least I can do to repay them. I don't like oweing people, you know?"

"Hey! No worries, I wish I could help with the food at my school. Anything would an improvement." She laughed as she entered the pizza place and looked over the menu after the were seated. "What are you having Dani?"

"Medium everything pizza," she paused, reading the list of ingredients it had, "but no anchovies or tomatos. You?"

Karen couldn't help but laugh at her friend's appetite, but then again she was pregnant and despite social norms, Karen admired Dani for the way she was handling it. "I think just plain cheese for me and a diet coke."

"Boring," Dani sang, before adding some juice to her order, "Always with the juice. Soda can give you heartburn, which is no fun," she spoke as if she were telling a secret.

Again, Karen laughed. "I'll remember that when I get pregnant. And I'm sorry I don't have super cravings like some!"

"This is not a craving!" Dani replied indignantly, "this is hunger. Cravings involve eating weird, nasty food. One of the teachers at school is also pregnant, now she has bad cravings! I have wacko mood swings," she didn't mention why.

"Wacko mood swings? Now that must be interesting. Almost feel bad for your house mates...how do they stand it." When thier pizzas came she glanced at the rainbow of things on Dani's pizza and muttered, "Cravings!" loud enough for Dani to hear, but clearly playful.

"Don't have any roommates, but I spend a lot of time in my friends room," it was easier just to forget to include that they were guys. Dani shrugged, "I think I'd rather have cravings, ain't it? At least then you stand a chance of doing something about it. But the tai chi kinda helps."

"Are there alot of you at this school?" Karen assumed it was some kind of Mercy House, filled with wayward mothers and gay sons sent there to be 'fixed' or something. Probably had a few mutants there too, she thought bitterly. But Karen was smiling when she was teasing. "Plus the Tai Chi will help work off the cravings!"

"Only one of me," Dani said as the food came, "but there are a lot of students I guess. I don't know how many, not everyone shows up to all meals," she mused for a minute what might happen if there were more of her, like Jamie. It would be interesting. "It's really kinda open. Not too many rules about a lot of things."

"Sounds like a paradise." She giggled before stuffing a piece of cheese pizza in her mouth. "What's the name of this school again?"

Taking a bite of her pizza Dani replied, "Xavier's," before awkwardly trying to pull her sleeve over the inhibtor wihtout using her hands. "About 25 minutes from here."

At the mention of the name of mutant school, Karen began to choke in surprise. After coughing for a minute or so, she managed to take a gulp of diet coke to clear her throat. "Did you just say Xavier's?" She began to squirm uneasily at the possibilty she was sitting across from a mutant.

"Yeah," Dani noticed something was wrong, but was having problems pinpointing what it was exactly, "You've heard of it?"

Blinking in surprise, Karen glanced at her watch. "Oh gosh look at the time...!" She pulled a bunch of bills from her gym bag and tossed them on the table. "Josh is going to have a fit if I don't have dinner ready soon. I'm sorry Dani, I'll umm....see you in class?" Not that Karen planned on attenting Tai Chi there ever again, especially not after she told her parents this little tid bit.

"Hey wait!" Dani followed after her, uncaring about the food, "I'll give you a ride home, Karen! Hey wait up!" Dani practically ran after her, "What is your problem?" she finalled called to the other girl.

Karen ignored her and the moment she was outside, burst into a run, trying to get far away from the mutant as quickly as possible. Her only thought as she ran was how in the word could she be friends with a mutant of all people?

Dani thumbed the inhibitor off and was nearly knocked over by the fear and hatred she felt from the other girl. Oh. Heading back inside to the booth, Dani paid, leaving the uneaten pizza.

*WOE*

For the record, as long as this isn't a Karen with long brown hair and glasses, I'll refrain from protests about damage to the reputation of my real name. *grins*

They are, apparently, two different Karens, but I can assure you that my Karen NPC would never wear glasses and is very blonde.
