Following up on these e-mails, Jay finds Alison and asks for a favor. Surprised by what it is, she happily agrees, and the two get to plotting.

"Hey Alison, are ya in?" Jay asked, entering the music room with his guitar case slung over his shoulder. Spotting her by the piano, he smiled and walked up to her. "'Mornin'. Good weekend?"

Looking up from the piano though the scales still flowed uninterrupted, Alison smiled in greeted and nodded smoothly. "Good morning." The lack of reply about the weekend was intentional, though no great deal was made about it in the process. The guitar case had that comfortably worn air about it most cases for often used instruments tended to acquire, reminding Alison of how the case which had used to house Faith had been for the longest time. "I hope yours was good?"

Jay shrugged and took a seat on a nearby stool, carefully leaning his guitar case against the side of the piano. "As good as they get 'round here, Ah s'pose. So Ah was wonderin' iffn ya can't help me out with somethin'."

An eyebrow quirked up at that, a smidgen of surprise perhaps showing before being replaced by mild curiosity. "Help? Well, if it's anything I can do I'd be glad to give it a shot..." She stopped playing the piano, carefully pulling the cover shut over the keys from habit, patting it gently before turning around to look at Jay properly. "Shoot."

Jay couldn't help but blush a bit, but he went on despite that. "So Ah've been talkin' ta Samson, and we were talkin' 'bout music and me playin' and all that, and he asked me why Ah don't perform much for people no more. And he suggested that maybe Ah ought ta, that it'd help me." He shrugged. "So Ah figure Ah could give it a shot. Thing is, Ah don't know what ta do, really. Mah band is back home, and it ain't like Ah could fly 'em up here for a show or nothin'. And Ah don't want no part in PCIF or mah own band here, neither. But then Ah got ta thinkin'. Before mah pals and Ah started our band, Ah played bah mahself in bars and stuff. Do ya got any idea iffn Ah could do that up here too?"

The second eyebrow went up to join the first at that, though the surprise was fleeting, and turned into something close to pleasure, really. "Well. You're certainly in the right town to give it a shot." It was where she'd done so, after all. She was smiling at him, she realized - it was, in fact, very nice to be asked for advice in general, but even more so on this topic in particular it seemed. "You know, I gotta ask… are you aiming to break just in the regular circuit in town, or more than that?" Having a plan, if he was going to do this, would be a very good idea. It was up to him on how he'd go on about it but… well.

"Well, it ain't like Ah'm tryin' to dazzle some record exec and get mahself a deal. Ah couldn't leave the guys. We're a team, and we made a promise ta get a deal together. Ah just need somethin' ta do, Ah guess. Have some fun. Though if an exec saw me and wanted ta sign mah band, then Ah sure as heck wouldn't say no."

Alison nodded - and decided to hold off any talk about signings for the next while. It was jumping the gun and a fair bit at that. "Well then. Point you in the right direction and go over things to prep you for audition nights and that kind of stuff I can definitely help with." Tell him where to look, which places to absolutely avoid at all costs she would do, in fact. But the work would be up to him. All of it.

And Jay would discover that meant a lot of work, though she didn't think that would stop him in the least. He was, after all, a Guthrie.

"Ah've been trough mah fair share of auditions, but Ah dunno what Yanks are like, so any pointers would be appreciated, yeah," Jay said nodding. This was excellent. He'd never admit it to anyone, especially Samson, but this would be good. And if he made connections for his boys in the meantime, all the better. "Cool. Thanks, Alison. This" - means a lot to me? Well, yes, but he's not going to say that - "will be cool."

He had That Look. She knew it only too well - it was one she'd worn herself more than once, of course. Smiling a bit, Alison nodded in return, feeling on stronger ground here for some reason than in many other situations. Sure, she could point him in the right direction and give all the pointers he asked for, but ultimately this one was entirely in Jay's hands. She suspected he'd do something good with this, however things turned out. "You're welcome. Nooow. The first thing to do will be to go find all the local newspapers you can, and the Times. And then pour over them and figure out which places that are auditioning you think will suit you..."
