Remy collects his parcel. It's kind of disastrous.

'Merde'? Merde doesn't sound good. )

Following that conversation with Moira, Remy has news for the X-Force team. As usual, it's not good.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Infection. )

OOC: Many apologies for the delay. It's all the Yellow Griffin's fault.

X-Force invade China. With a little bit of help from some unexpected quarters.

The Chinese are less picky about the death penalty than your country, American. )

In the barracks, things get bloody as Pete, Remy and Sarah make sure there are no nasty surprises for the rest of the team.

Shout if anyone else tries to kill you. )

Whilst mayhem is being wrecked elsewhere, Mark, Marie-Ange and Wanda are on security detail.

And so far, the imp has not gotten lasered, cut to bits, burnt or squashed, so I believe we are safe. )

Down in Xorn's containment area, things get seriously trippy. And Betsy gets to stab people in the brain.

It will be difficult, but we have heard that you are great. )

An ending. A pilgrimage is begun, and it's suggested Essex might have been a little over-dramatic in his assessment.

He took no notice of the wind or the cold, stepping out on to the frozen ground and walking away. )

Speaking of food for thought... The talk with Nate stirred up a lot and Amanda is going through it all when Pete drops by to find out how things went with Emma. Or, rather, being Amanda and the way she carries guilt around like a security blanket, she's moping and Pete interrupts. He gives her another perspective on things.

Nothing ever came of a life that was a simple one/Pull yourself together girl, have a little fun. )

Wisdom, Betsy, and Remy follow Emma Frost to their new home, as she outlines exactly how to repay the favour that Pete called in.

I'm hoping living here won't be made mandatory )

In the aftermath of Romany's rescue, Pete proves he's still able to surprise Remy when he makes him an offer.

I'm sick of letting them get away with it. )

On a hilltop in Lancashire, Pete and his friends catch up with the men who took Romany.  They want her back, and they're prepared to be very unpleasant about it indeed.  The results are predictably swift and messy, because these people are professionals.  They don't just charge in with a half-baked plan.  No.  Their plans are fully baked.

---

Remy is the first to make contact with the enemy.  He's a lot slower than he used to be, but no less effective for it.

Out walking the dog )

Wanda's up next, just to make sure there's plenty of chaos to cover everyone's activities.

There were plenty of things to go wrong )

Pete and Amanda make sure Romany gets away

A flash of Pete's hotknives and the ropes binding Romany fell away )

Of course, it all goes so much easier where there's a telepath on your side...

He hadn't even noticed the flash of purple )

Amanda and Romany's escape isn't totally without a hitch...

Should have checked for ambush. )

Doug and Marie-Ange, meanwhile, are stuck waiting with the friends Pete has brought along to help tidy up.  It's not the most exciting job in the world, but Doug suddenly realises why Pete dragged thme along too...

I know why we're here )

Trusting Amanda to get Romany away, Pete takes care of a few loose ends

You're nicked, me old son. )

It's all over bar the shouting, but sometimes there's still a last spanner fate can throw in the works.

You going to be by the Crown again before you fuck off? )

Pete comes down to New Orleans to talk to Remy. It doesn't go particularly well, but does what needs to be done.

But I can't look you in the eye and say it wasn't worth it. )

Nathan stands on a rooftop in the snow and keeps an eye on things. He is possibly pouting just a little at the role he finds himself in, but doesn't let that stop him from doing his part of the job.

He had to just sit tight, be patient. Not something he was particularly good at. )

As the meeting starts, Gideon's security detail, delayed by the snow and rushing to meet their boss, runs into a spot of trouble. Cain doesn't precisely meet his match, but he does meet someone who can hold their own.

Just a friendly ambush. )

Haroun tackles the flyer in the group, focusing on keeping her from getting to her boss.

Why was it that every powered flyer but him had some sort of defensive bodyshield? )

Kurt finds someone who likes to play with knives.

It might have worked, if he wasn't dealing with a professional gymnast and teleporter. )

Alison takes on an energy-projector who is somewhat lacking in her follow-through - surprising, given her employer, but Alison takes full advantage of it.

Next time, don't play around. )

The X-Men's diversionary tactic works exceptionally well, leaving Gideon with precisely one mutant to synch to at the meeting site. He opens the box and gets a nasty surprise. Pete enjoys himself just a little, but sadly, doesn't get to have quite as much fun as he'd hoped.

Next time, I'm fucking travelling business class, alright? )

The two teams regroup at the Blackbird, and Scott and Alison take stock.

Everyone all right? )

Nathan and Pete hook back up and stop for a bit of a breather before heading back to the plane. Pete laments how minimal the violence was. Nathan gets a precognitive flicker and a nasty little idea as to how to rub Gideon's nose in things. It doesn't take much to talk Pete into it.

The rest of you got to have all the fun. )

Friday. Nathan, Pete, Cain and Alison arrive at the Eris camp outside in the desert. The Eris personnel immediately decide that high-tailing it for the mountains is the best course of action. Still, there's a Domino who needs finding, and splitting up is the order of the day. Alison, though she doesn't find Domino, makes some headway of a very unexpected sort.

The fine art of intimidation. )

Domino, still in her cell when chaos breaks out, seizes the first opportunity to escape. Thankfully (given the content of Nathan's vision) she doesn't get very far. Although she's not quite as happy to see Pete as she should be. At least not right away.

A fist in the throat says 'I love you'. Really, it does. )

Outside, Cain and Nathan spot Gideon. Cain and Nathan chase Gideon. Gideon has a surprise for Nathan - or is the joke on him? Then, Gideon finds himself in the position of facing a furious, psimitar-bearing telekinetic out in the open where Nathan doesn't have to worry about collateral damage.

Let's see how you like what you made. )

Thursday evening. They decide to stay the night in Luederitz, for lack of other options. Nathan and Pete share a moment of frustration out on the balcony of the hotel, staring into the fog. A subject they're going to have to talk about at some point comes up, but then the future intervenes.

Horses. Horses running in the desert. )

Driving's impossible until the fog clears, so they stay the rest of the night. When Cain and Pete are asleep, Alison and Nathan finally get the chance to talk, at least about the matter at hand. There's a lot more not-talking on other topics.

I have a lot on my mind. Or too little. Depending on your perspective. )

Thursday afternoon. When they reach Luederitz, the next site on Esther's map, Nathan and the others find out that Gideon is a step ahead of them - and was a step ahead of Esther, as well. There's a solution, but not a simple one.

The unpredictable sort of business meeting. )
