Date: Saturday 14th May 2005 Time: 7pm
Who: Nathan, Jubilee
What Happens: Jubilee asks Nathan for a dance, they talk.
Jubilee tapped Nathan on the shoulder, staring up at him innocently as he
turned around. "Nathan Dayspring, would you do me the honor of this next
dance?" she asked in her best 'formal' voice.
She'd chosen a black silk cheongsam for the wedding, with a bright blue
dragon emblazoned on the back, her hair done up with chopsticks.
Nathan smiled. "So long as you don't mind me being a little slow," he said.
"I think that reel with Moira took more out of me than I thought it did."
There was a distinct twinkle in his eyes as he looked down at her. "I
promise to endeavor not to fall on you, though."
"Well, if you promise not to fall on me, I promise not to stand on your
toes. Not the type of dancin' I'm used to." Jubilee replied, looking at him
critically as she allowed herself to be led into the first movements of the
waltz. "Dude. You look...different, at peace. Makes you look younger."
He was using just a little TK to brace himself. He didn't think anyone would
nag him about it, even if they somehow noticed. "Well," he said reasonably,
"it's a good day."
"True. It's been nice though, seein' everyone so relaxed. Although, I
totally think this old lady was chasin' one of the guys before. Hope I'm
that frisky when I get that old." Jubilee replied, remembering her own
Grandmother.
"I don't," Nathan said very firmly, still smiling, "want to know." The dance
floor was crowded, and Nathan chuckled at the sight of GW and Lien. "You
took full advantage of the buffet, I trust?"
"Stuffed myself till I nearly exploded." Jubilee replied, giggling. "But
totally stayed away from the sugery stuff. Thought it might be bad if I
started glowing and throwing off sparks here. Not cause people would mind,
just that I might hurt someone, or set fire ta somethin', which would be
bad. Haven't figured out how to keep the paffs inert for longer then a
couple of seconds yet. Least, not without givin' myself the swirlies."
Jubilee stumbled slightly as Nathan led them past another couple, but
recovered rather well, hoping no one had seen. This waltzing stuff was a lot
harder then it had looked when she'd been watching the others.
"Yeah, good to avoid the pyrotechnics," Nathan said amiably, and traded a
smile with Moira as she moved past them, dancing with Billie. "So you didn't
tell me what you thought of my kilt," he teased.
"I was blinded by the white legs, Dude. You totally need to spend time on a
tropical beach somewhere." Jubilee replied, blinking theatrically before
grinning widely. "Truly though, the kilt looks good. Sooo, now that you're
married to a Scotswoman, are ya gonna learn to play the Bagpipes?"
Jubilee was happy, she wasn't sure if it was just the good feelings from
everyone here or just the fact that they were celebrating after such a long
string of misfortunes. The day felt brighter, the sky bluer and it was all
she could do not to bounce with each step as she walked.
"No bagpipes," Nathan said, sticking to the pattern of the dance almost
automatically. "The noise pollution is just a little much for me, really.
And I'd probably be lousy at it." He smiled. "Like the dress, by the way."
Jubilee looked down at her dress and then quickly back up as she felt
herself losing the rythmn of the dance. You weren't meant to look at your
feet, it was 'one of those things' with dancing.
"Thanks. It's somethin' Lorna helped me pick when we went shopping. Was
gonna get someone ta take a picture for me to send back to my Granddad. He
gets a kick out of seein' me dressed up. Pity with the bagpipes. Would've
been worth it just to see how quickly Alison could arrange a suitable
accident for them."
"I think Alison would surprise you," Nathan said. "And there are all
kinds of people running around with digital cameras - if you can't
find someone to take a picture of you I'd be terribly surprised." He
smiled. "You're looking very grown-up, you know. Very poised."
Jubilee beamed at him, it wasn't often that she got told that, from anyone
other then Madelyn and Hank, anyhow. To hear it from Nate, was nice. She'd
often wondered where exactly he fit into her world view. Not a father
figure, and not a kindly Uncle type. Someone whose opinion she respected,
certainly. Someone whose approval she wanted because of that respect,
someone she trusted.
"It's all in the not chewing gum." Jubilee replied, mock seriously. "Well,
and someone, who shall remain nameless, stealng my bubble blower on the
plane over."
"Ah, but see? That's what you call positive peer pressure," Nathan
teased. "They're conspiring to make you put your best foot forward. Or
something like that."
Jubilee snickered, deftly avoiding Jamie and Kitty as they sailed past. "So,
what do you think about a fireworks show for the wedding guests tonight?"
She'd been trying to think of something she could contribute to the wedding,
beyond the standard present. Using her abilities had seemed an obvious
choice.
I think you might give Moira's grandmother a heart attack. And
that was a bad thing. Really it was. "Why don't I steer you over in
the bride's direction and you can ask her?" Nathan said whimsically.
"She's the really important one today, after all..."
Jubilee grinned. "Had been about to suggest I ask Moira first, wasn't sure
how her relos would take obvious mutant powers."
"Can't upset the in-laws," Nathan quipped. "Really. Not a good idea at
all..."
