More 'welcome home's. Terry reacts like Kitty and makes a mad dash for Bobby. After being unglomped, he hires her with the promise of ice cream to help him track down his iPod.
Terry had been in the music room all morning, playing her harp until her fingers cramped and then switching to working on an aria she wanted to surprise Alison with. So it wasn't until quite late in the day that Terry found herself at a computer to check the journals. Kitty's post made her shove back from her desk so quickly she tumbled out of the chair. Picking herself up with a gleeful little shriek, she pelted out of the room to find the prodigal.
Said prodigal was just leaving Angelo's room, where he was stashing his stuff and spending the night, or however long it took before Xavier assigned him his own room, suite, whatever. He was heading down to the car to look for his iPod, twirling the keys absently on his index finger and whistling as he made his way through the familiar hallways.
Terry spotted him and just barely managed to not give another shriek that probably would have shattered his eardrums since, as welcome home presents went, that would have sucked. "Bobby!" She kept up her near run without a clear idea of what she was planning to do and so old, nearly extinct, habit kicked in and she launched herself at him, hugging and clinging in equal measures. "Are you really back? For good, not just a visit?"
Luckily, this wasn't the first time a teenage girl had come barrelling at him this afternoon, and he braced himself for impact, the keys falling to the floor. "Ooph! For good," he assured the bundle of redhead stuck to him. "Good lord, have they been giving lessons on this?" He hugged her back despite his words, grinning.
"Yay!" She giggled and gave him an exuberant kiss, entirely friendly then hopped back to bounce delightedly, "Sorry. I haven't done that in ages. Guess I regressed." She grinned because three years ago it hadn't been at all unusual to get glomped by a small red-head if you'd been gone from the mansion for any longer than two weeks. She'd quit when she'd reached high school, at least until now.
Bobby grinned back, loosening his grip on her, because really--having all of these attractive, almost-grown girls clinging to him was becoming a bit disconcerting--especially since most of them had been like his little sisters! "No problem. It's good to know people are glad to have me back. It's better than a mob with pitchforks, anyway," he continued, only half-joking.
"That will be when the ice cream runs out." Terry predicted and retrieved his keys, spinning them on her finger like he'd been doing. "Right now, you have everyone hyped up on sugar. When they all crash, they'll be out for blood until you make more." She grabbed his arm and batted her eyelashes at him, "I want mint when you do."
"A hundred pints, Terry--this is a school full of fiends if it's gone through that already!" He tapped her nose affectionately. "But mint you shall have." In fact, he'd be willing to make it for her right now, if she wanted. His iPod wasn't going anywhere.
"This is a school full of fiends! You know that!" Terry laughed. "Between the new kids and the old ones, I'm amazed it lasted this long. Besides, I hid the rest of the white chocolate raspberry so that's two less pints for everyone else. Dani was going nuts yesterday because no one wanted to eat regular food and Rahne and Jamie's dinners just went to waste. It's a good thing Lorna isn't here or she'd have had a heart attack."
"Lorna's not here?" Bobby looked briefly disappointed. "Where's she gone off to? And who's Dani?" Rahne and Jamie he knew, so that was all right.
"I don't know, actually." Not for lack of trying but no one seemed to be talking about it and she hadn't had a chance to ask Alison yet. "She and Alex left Thursday. I think they're coming back Tuesday because Jamie and Rahne are acting like they're planning the whole barbeque on the 4th. Dani is a new student and she also does the ordering for the kitchen. She just had a baby."
"Ah. Well, I'd better tell her to get lots of cream and sugar, and various flavorings and mix-ins, then, hmm?" Bobby grinned and reached for his keys, which were still dangling from Terry's finger. "Want to go help me figure out where my iPod went? Maybe after, there'll be time for just a bit of mint ice cream..."
She handed over his keys and grinned, "Considering how god awful hot it is out there? I absolutely expect ice cream if I help you find your iPod. You probably should tell Jamie or Rahne to have Dani order it. They're pretty much in charge of cooking with Lorna gone." Particularly considering Dani's entry yesterday.
Bobby shrugged. "Sure, okay." He made a mental note to mention it to Jamie, slinging his arm around Terry and heading toward the entryway. "I can make the car a lot cooler, you know...and you'll still get ice cream." He winked and chilled his hand, pressing it to her arm teasingly.
She squealed but didn't jerk away from the human air conditioner, too used to the trick to let it affect her. "You give me frost bite and the doctors are going to yell at you." She wrapped her arms around his waist and gave him another hug, unable to help herself. "Mint ice cream. Extra minty."
"Yes, ma'am. Anything else in it, or just mint? Chocolate chips? Cookie bits?"
"Oreos. And more mint." Terry nodded solemnly and made a face as they left the nicely air conditioned mansion for the hot, sticky out of doors. "And snow. Lots of snow. Ms. Munroe won't make it cooler, she even posted to the journals that she wouldn't."
Bobby rolled his eyes and headed for the car, hitting the button to unlock the doors. "I can maybe do a very localized snowstorm, just for you...but I'm not that powerful." He pulled the car door open and stuck his head in, concentrating for a few seconds, the dashboard icing over as he cooled off the interior. "There. Check under the seats," he instructed, popping the glove compartment open and rummaging through the copious papers and assorted junk.
Terry ducked under his arm to do so, the open glove compartment quite close to her head. "I don't know, Bobby. I think we all really underestimate our powers. My Dad can fly. I didn't even know it was possible to do that with sonics. And Doug understood the cicadas when they came through." Under the passenger seat, she found several empty cans, a few candy wrappers and a map but no iPod. She edged carefully across the car, avoid the gear shift and peeked under the driver's seat.
Bobby glanced at her and shut the glove compartment--no luck there, either. "I guess so. I mean, I've never tested my limits, or anything, it's just...come on, a snowstorm is huge. I don't know how far I can project cold..." And the conversation was starting to make him uncomfortable, so he ducked out of the car and pulled open the back door, checking between the front seats, on the floor of the back, anywhere an iPod might have gone.
Terry emerged from under the driver's seat, nearly hitting her head on the steering wheel and held up the iPod, "Nice cover, Bobby." She dangled it from her fingertips and leaned back against the ice-covered dashboard, her halter top open enough in the back to bring her skin in contact with the ice. She shivered pleasantly. "You should do more with your powers. Alison just told me yesterday that we have to be able to control our powers or something bad could happen. So you should know how much you can do."
Bobby snatched the iPod from her and muttered, "It was free with purchase." He climbed out of the back seat and closed the door, moving around to offer her a hand out as well. "I guess..." Nothing too bad had happened when Bobby had lost control of his powers, after the FoH thing, but that didn't mean it couldn't have been worse. "I'll think about it. Meanwhile, I owe you minty oreo ice cream."
"I can see why. It's a zebra. A pink and green zebra. The other zebras probably laughed him out of the herd." She peeled herself off the nice ice and let him help her out. Once on her feet, she gave him another hug. "Have I said that I missed you? Because I did. I'm glad you're back."
Bobby hugged her back, tightly and for a long time. "I missed you too," he said softly as he finally loosened his grip. "And lay off my zebra." He laughed and grabbed her hand, tugging her back toward the mansion, and the kitchen, and his inaugural bowl of 'back in the mansion' ice cream.
