Manuel comes to Nathan to set up a meeting with Lusanya, and discovers that All Is Not Right with the Askani.
Manuel whistled a cheery little tune as he walked down the hall to Nathan's office. He could feel the older man there, so he shouldn't have too many problems making his desires understood. Grinning, he knocked on Nate's door and waited for an indication to enter.
"Come in, Manuel," Nathan called absently. His shields were perfectly in order this morning. No one would be able to tell that he'd had a very, very bad evening yesterday. The sleep had helped, in any case, and although he wasn't feeling quite... right, he was more or less with it again. More than enough to fake it for just about anyone. He looked up as Manuel opened the door. "Yes?"
"A quick request for you. If at all possible, I'd like to talk to Lusanya tonight. Got a couple of empathic questions that I want to ask her." he said with a grin
Nathan's expression went blank, his attention instinctively turning inward, to a sky that wasn't nearly as full of stars as it should be. It had been one of a number of unpleasant realizations upon waking. "I don't know whether that'll be possible, Manuel," he said.
Manuel blinked. "Why not?" he asked pleasantly.
"I'm not sure she's here anymore." Diminished, and silent. That was a good description of the Askani this morning. The vague sense of unreality whenever he faced that particular fact was a good indication that he hadn't quite shaken off last night yet. Or they hadn't. Probably both.
"She's not here anymore." he said flatly, all traces of his good mood gone. "Where did she go?"
"I'm not sure. I'm not sure she's gone... some of them are, but she may still be there." He hoped, for Manuel's sake. "She was always one of the stronger voices."
"Find her?" he asked in the closest he'd ever come to actual outright begging. "I need her!"
"I'll look for her. I promise," Nathan said neutrally, folding his arms on the desk and leaning on them. "Once they're talking again."
Manuel nodded. "OK." he said quietly. "That's all I needed. I'll see you around, then."
