Lorna tempts Alison into heading down poolside for a bit of sunbathing, and eventually ends up luring her into a sport Alison has a particular horror for. By bribing her with cookies. Cooks cheat, they do.

It was murderously hot, the heat-wave Ororo had promised a while ago having returned in full force with humidity enough to make the air chewy. The brilliantly blue pool made things a little cooler but not much. Lorna tilted down her sunglasses and glanced over at the other poolside chair. "Do you think we're setting a bad example?" she asked her companion.

"Mmm?" Wearing one of those bikinis that supposedly allowed for full body tanning, Alison pondered tilting her head to the side to look at Lorna while answering. And decided even that would be too much work. She'd left a red shirt for Haroun to find on the bed before heading down poolside, Lorna's invitation to do the sun justice having been accepted wholeheartedly. It was too bad that Haroun would be likely off to putter about the Blackbird for the rest of the day, but she didn't begrudge him that. "Naw. Sun's good." She grinned just a little bit at that, taking in a slow breath of warm air and letting it go slowly.

"No arguments there. I just meant that the docs just issued that whole lecture on staying out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day and keeping hydrated and stuff. So this would technically be a bad example." Lorna resettled her sunglasses anyway and adjusted her position a bit. She hadn't bothering with a tanning suit, a regular bikini was fine with her.

"We're being good," was the lazy retort. "No running around, we've got water a plenty to keep hydrated. We even have suntan cream and all!" The heat was lovely, Alison having settled into languid frame of mind mere seconds after they'd originally wandered down to the side of the pool to work on some serious tanning. "And it's not the hottest part of the day, too. We're very good."

"It's hot enough that even the kidlets have abandoned the pool. Not that I mind, since having them around usually results in getting splashed and eventually thrown in." Lorna's tone said quite clearly that that had happened much more often than she liked to think about. "I don't think anything under 45 spf really counts as sun protection, let alone the...what was that 6?"

"I don't mind the being splashed or throw in parts..." Since it was usually Miles doing the splashing about and Haroun doing the picking up and throwing in the pool... "I think it had a six in it. I didn't check, really. Don't think I've ever caught a sunburn, actually." Blinking at that, she opened her eyes, staring up at the sun pensively. "Huh."

Lorna tisked without much vehemence, the heat making it much more enjoyable to just laze about rather than put any actual effort into the day. "Just because you never have doesn't mean you won't. Turning brown and crispy again probably isn't healthy." Lorna rolled over onto her stomach, tugging her hair to the side so her back could get sun. The scars didn't really tan nicely but it was sillier to leave them out.

"It was a lovely shade of light chocolate," Alison replied with equanimity. "Without any burning involved in the process, thank you very much. So there." Wriggling a bit on the chair, she settled down once more and smirked, just a bit. "This time though I'm going for nice and golden."

"You and Haroun matched. That's pretty dark." Lorna stretched her arms above her head and yawned. "I'm just going to try to maintain this tan I got from vacation. It's like a requirement for Hawaii, right? Perfect golden tan?"

Alison just grinned widely, though at which part of Lorna's words wasn't clear. That she could grin about it, she supposed, meant she was learning to accept and get over some of what had happened. Some of it. Her eyes hardened a bit at that, but she took a deep breath and stretched, dispelling that mood before it spoiled their fun. "I just want to laze in the sun and not move, really. Mmm. So nice..."

Lorna peered out over her glasses, "Does the mean you aren't going to play tennis with me later? "She was certain Alison knew how to play but she'd never yet been able to get her friend out to the tennis court. Which was very irritating.

If Alison went a little bit still, in one of those moments that heralded much running away, she tried not to give it entirely away. "I don't play tennis." Which was true, really - Alison didn't actually indulge in the sport. Perfectly true. And honest. Satisfied with that reasoning, she settled a bit more in the chair,
wriggling for the heck of it.

Lorna wasn't buying it for a second. "But you know how! Which is much more than anyone else here does and I'm tired of having to explain how to serve to people." She sat up and looked imploringly at her friend, "Please, Alison? Pretty please? I'll bake you cookies?"

"..." Alison slid Lorna a sideways look, the suspicion in her eyes underlined by the start of a pout. "...how many cookies? You're cheating. So much. Do I get to pick what kind too?"

She was so toast.

"A whole batch. All to yourself. Your choice on what kind." Lorna kept up the pleading look rather than giving into the need to grin triumphantly. She was totally going to get her way. Alison was very easy to read once you knew what buttons to push.

"You're mean. I so hate tennis. With a passion." With a resigned sigh, Alison flopped an arm over her eyes dramatically. "Woe. I'm being bribed into playing tennis. And suffering. Stupid cookies." A pause. "Lemon and cranberry?"

"Tennis is very good exercise. Trains your reflexes too." Lorna laid back down to finish sunning herself, finally permitting her grin to tug at the corners of her mouth. "Lemon and cranberry you shall have for your suffering."

"My reflexes are trained just fine. Tennis rackets are evil things of doom and should all be burned in a bonfire. S'all." A peek towards Lorna revealed she was only being laughed at, so Alison dropped the pose of woe. "Lots of lemon and cranberry cookies," she muttered rebelliously. "Lots and lots."

"After the match." Lorna stretched lazily. "Later though, when it gets cooler. Too hot to run around right now."

Mercy! A temporary reprieve! And room to try and wriggle out of it if the lure of cookies abated! "Okay!" And then, flopping back on her chair without further ceremony, Alison went right back to the very important task of acquiring the perfect tan.
