log: Dani & Catseye
Jul. 26th, 2005 07:53 pmLater in the afternoon, Catseye finds Dani outside and like a good human, Dani talks to the kitty. Set shortly after Terry & Catseye in the music room.
Dani laid outside in the grass near the lake, basking in being outside. She hadn't realized how much she missed the wind in the trees or the feel of the grass beneath her feet until she had gone to the McCoy's farm and now she couldn't be outside enough it seemed. It had been a good weekend.
The usual path Catseye took when heading back towards the mansion from the woods crossed right through the patch of lawn which Danielle had elected to sprawl in, soaking in the sun. And while just heading back in and curling up somewhere held a certain appeal, Catseye had to admit to herself that Terry's presence yesterday hadn't been entirely unpleasant.
And if anyone wouldn't mind just curling up lazily, well… Danielle was one of those people. So instead of walking by as she normally might have, Catseye allowed herself to steps to the side as she neared Danielle, then flopped next to her with a small 'mrr' to announce her arrival.
"Hey Catseye," Dani murmured, idly reaching to scratch her on the head. "You'd've liked the farm."
A faint, rusty purr answered her at that, though Catseye wasn't really sure what the farm was, other than what books or tv shows sometimes went on about. Catseye, really, was a city cat, through and through. Still, people pet her when they talked and that wasn't a bad thing at all.
"Lots of space, plenty to do outside, fresh air," Dani listed some of the things she liked about it wistfully. Although she hadn't grown up on a farm per se, Watonga was far and pathetic cry from a booming metropolis. "The people weren't so bad either."
That was belated in the list of nice things, Catseye reflected idly, flicking an ear forward and then back. Paying attention, cat lazing in the sun. Talk on. Stretching out a paw, she flexed it slightly, claws peeking through briefly in a reminder to keep petting.
Dani had stopped petting Catseye as her thoughts drifted, "I kinda wish Mr. and Mrs. McCoy had been my parents, ain't it? Mine died when I was a baby, was raised by my grandparents, but they're dead now too. That's how life is sometimes, but it's awful lonely to get left behind," she paused, considering things and the cat currently nuzzeled into her side, "At least, we got each other...can make our own family."
Catseye eyes were wide and stunned as she stared at Danielle, wondering how she could possibly know - but a moment's pause gave her the time to decide that in fact, Danielle had no idea at all and was
only speaking from her own experience.
Still. The words... had merit. Whether one was a cat or a girl.
