After Catseye's visit to her family's house, Catseye goes out to the lake to try to work out how she feels about it all.  Kylun tries to help.

Staring ahead into the waters of the lake, Catseye sighed again. She was still wearing the clothes people had helped her pick earlier that morning, though the skirt had earned a few grass stains from when the girl had scrambled up to the side of the lake after they'd returned home, tumbling down in a heap as she tripped over her own feet.

Again.

"Stupid feet." Taking a deep breath, Catseye held it this time, feeling the wind blow through her hair and on her skin lightly. This being human business was so very... confusing.

"I used to wish I could do without mine," Kylun said thoughtfully as he came up behind her, trusting to her senses and the wind direction to have given her warning.  "I grew two inches one summer and was forever tripping over them.  Then I imagined myself without feet and decided I would look silly, and would trip just as often."

With a sigh, Catseye shifted her legs about enough to stretch them out before her, staring at her bare feet and the claw tips replacing the usual human nails at the end of her toes. "Catseye already was a clumsy fluff ball kitten once. Catseye does not need to be one again." The grumbled words had no bite to them though, followed by another heavy sigh instead. "Catseye wishes ShinyBitsBoy hadn't seen..." There was  a wistful look in her eyes as she looked up.

"He was very much hoping that today would go well for you."  Kylun sighed.  "I was, as well.  To be able to help reunite families . . ." He shook his head, then regarded Catseye again.  "Do you wish you had not seen it?  Or rather, that it had not been there to see?"

"Catseye knows that. Catseye wishes it had gone well too, for everyone." She shrugged, just a bit - over the shock of things, having slipped into now from long habit. "Why would Catseye wish either of these things?" She turned to look at Kylun, honestly puzzled. "That would not change them, either way."

"I suppose it would be different for you, having truly no expectations."  Kylun paused, marshaling his thoughts.  "When I was a boy, I often wondered about my birth family.  I loved the family of my adoption, the monastery, but always there were the questions: did my parents love me, were they good people, would they have been proud of me?  I thought perhaps you might have been looking for answers to questions like that, this afternoon, and found those answers less than comforting."  He smiled.  "I have been, perhaps, too guilty of assumptions.  How do you feel about what you have learned?"

"Catseye did not know what to think at all. Catseye did not know anything, earlier today." Wide, lavender eyes stared at him for a long moment, as Catseye had to stop and think about his question, though, as opposed to just coasting on from moment to moment. "That Catseye has a family. Not like humans mean… normally, exactly. Like BreadCookingGirl meant." Calling Dani pregnant girl wasn't exactly happening anymore, after all. "Like the family Catseye had before in the city." She smiled a bit though, then looked ahead, over the lake. "But Catseye thinks maybe deep down, Catseye knew that all along, anyway."

"It was still a very large idea to swallow.  I am glad to see that you do not seem to be choking on it."  Kylun smiled.  "I know how easy it can be to be overwhelmed by change."

"But nothing changed." Expression showing both confusion and a degree of frustration, Catseye shook her head, purple hair flowing with the energetic motion.  "Catseye knows she was born human now, because ShinyBitsBoy found out and Catseye believes him, even if it is… a lot to believe. But Catseye still doesn't know how she was lost as a baby. Catseye would have liked to know that much, at least." She looked down at that, shoulders slumping a bit. "Catseye would have liked to know that much."

"Ah, but you could have refused to believe.  You are due credit for accepting the idea, when it went against everything you knew."  Kylun frowned, sighing.  "I wish . . . that I knew some way to help you answer that question.  But a stranger asking . . . especially, given their beliefs, a stranger with a face like mine, I do not think that would be a good idea.  And I do not know any other way than to ask." He straightened slightly, looking at her.  "But if you decide to go back, if you think the answer to your question demands that, I will go with you if you wish it."

"ShinyBitsBoy would not have lied to Catseye about it… and would have known to be sure, before telling." The words were said with quiet certitude. Stretching out her arms, Catseye flexed her hands, claws sharp and bright in the sunlight. "Catseye does not think they would be happy getting the questions from Catseye either." Her smile was sharp toothed and her pupils turned in the thinnest of slits in the sunlight. "But maybe Catseye will go ask anyway, one day." Pushing herself up, eyed the skirt, and looked a bit sheepish. "And Catseye thinks that if Catseye every goes, she would like to have people along, yes."

"I will be there."  Kylun looked at her for a moment, then shook his head.  "They are fools, whatever else they may be.  No one but a fool would be anything but proud to be able to name you among their family."

A slow, brilliant smile answered that, Catseye leaning forward suddenly to offer her hand to him. "Thaaank you. And now, Catseye has to go and make sure ShinyBitsBoy is okay." A brief shadow crossed her features, but she shrugged it off, smiling anew. "UpsyDaisy!"

Kylun grinned.  "I am sure you will figure out what to do with him. Or possibly to him."  He cocked his head.  "Upsy . . . daisy?"

Leaning forward, Catseye replied in a conspiratorial whisper. "Catseye is still not sure. But Catseye thinks it means get up." With a grin, she hopped back, tail waving cheerfully. "Race to the house!"
