Duncan isn't very happy, Josh gets an idea and a present is left at Xavier's front gate

Duncan leaned on the wall, arms crossed as he gazed over to the corner where the body of his one of his former best friends lay. He was waiting for his dad to finish up with other heads of the FOH plus Tommy’s parents and some of his officers to figure out a way to cover this whole fiasco up. He still couldn’t believe it. Tommy, a mutant? Had he known all along and just hidden it, or had it really been a surprise today? A small part of Duncan felt sorry for the kid, wishing their could have been something he could do to help him, but considering the traitor was either dead or near to it, it really didn’t matter anymore.

The police officers who had ‘rescued’ an unconscious Tommy had brought him here, a backroom of one of the FOH sponsored rec centers and just dumped him in the middle of the floor. About half the crowd from the rally had followed and Duncan wasn’t sure the boy’s body had even hit the floor before the massive beating had resumed. Josh, the twins, even Tommy’s parents had been part of the crowd waiting for a chance at the ‘race traitor. Duncan on the other hand had stayed back, still in shock over the whole thing and now that he thought about it, the whole thing almost made him want to throw up. Tommy, a traitorous freak, who used to be his best friend…it was just a bit too much to take in.

He was so lost in thought that he jumped when he realized Josh had come up beside him. Most of the crowd had left, and besides those adults his dad was talking too, only Josh and the twins were left.

Josh had an almost feral grin on his face. “I have an idea that I need you to go tell your dad about what we can do with the pitful remains of the freak.”

Duncan was almost tempted to quip about Josh actually having a thought but thought better of it. Though Josh’s harsh tone upset his stomach a bit…this morning Tommy had been their leader, their friend…and now Duncan couldn’t let himself look at the blood spattered corner. “What?”

“Go ask your dad if we can have the body to dump on the doorstep of that freak school. That would sure send a clear message to them about what we do to their kind that even try to infiltrate us.” Josh seemed very proud of his idea and Duncan was a bit proud for him too. It was a good idea…just…

He sighed. “I’ll go ask.” Duncan pushed himself off the wall and after a quick hand through his dreads to cover him pulling himself back together, he walked over to where the adults were.

A few minutes later he returned, a small forced smile on his face. “He said yes and to commend you on the idea.” Josh and the twins cheered in excitement before Josh ran out to get his truck started and the twins went over to the corner to get the body of their former friend. Duncan just shook his head and moved to follow Josh.

About an hour later, a truck was pulling away from the gates of Xavier’s School For Extraordinary Children, a bloodied and broken body lay in front of the gates in plain site and on the wall next to the gate was spray painted in red, “This is the fate of all race traitors.”
The only sound, though faint, was a harsh, difficult, intake of breath.
