Working in his suite for a few hours before heading off to his meeting in New York, Nathan finds his attention demanded by his daughter.

"Meh! Meh!"

Nathan chuckled softly and lifted his daughter out of her crib. "Am I paying attention to the nasty pieces of paper and not to you?" he asked, cradling her in the crook of one arm. Rachel squeaked and blinked up at him, looking mildly affronted. "I ought to be ashamed of myself... you're much more interesting, aren't you?"

"Ooo!"

Smiling, he carried her out into the living room, amused when she kept squirming and making noise. Moira claimed that she was a very active baby, and while he didn't have all that much standard for comparison - Tyler hadn't been quite this lively, admittedly - he couldn't help but be reassured by that. Though she was sensing things that the vast majority of five week-old babies didn't, or shouldn't, she certainly wasn't withdrawing in reaction, which was something he'd worried about. Her mind was as bright and open and curious as it should be.

"Ooo?" Rachel seemed to be settling, the patterns of her thoughts growing more calm. Picking up on his train of thought? Nathan wondered and kissed the top of her head as he sat down at the desk, still holding her.

"Uncle Charles is very happy with you, you know," he told her, opening the Jetstream patents file. Might as well look over those some more before he left this afternoon. "He says you're doing just fine and the circuit-breaker in your adorable little head is working precisely the way it should. Even if you do occasionally throw your stuffed animals around."

"Ooo!"

These damned documents were just about unintelligible, Nathan thought with a frown. Patents, contracts - definitely not the area of the law he was most comfortable working with. He wouldn't be surprised if he'd just scraped by on that section of the bar exam. But he needed to understand this, needed to be ready in case Shaw or anyone else associated with this technology tried to cause problems. It was the one thing he could actually do for Haroun.

"... meh?" It was a tiny, soft squeak, almost woeful-sounding, and Nathan looked down to see Rachel blinking up at him, wearing what was distinctively an Unhappy Face.

"Shhh," Nathan murmured and shifted her to an upright position against his shoulder, careful to support her head. "You're picking up on all kinds of things this week, aren't you?" he said softly, rocking her. She snuffled, her little hands grasping randomly at his shirt. "All kinds of strange and scary things..." He and Moira had been as careful as they could, but some things slipped through, inevitably. "It'll be better soon, though. I promise."

"Ooo..."

Nathan closed his eyes, projecting one of the exercise patterns at her. Rachel mimicked it instantly, with an amazing degree of accuracy. Charles and Askani were both very pleased by how well the exercises were working. They would strengthen Rachel's mind slowly and gradually, make it more able to handle the burden of her powers as she grew. Between that and the circuit-breaker, they were hoping to avoid any of the usual traumas inherent in psionic manifestation. "And we're doing well so far, aren't we?" he murmured, all but melting as her tiny body relaxed trustingly against him. "You're going to be the healthiest and most well-adjusted baby telepath in the world. Of course, you're the only baby telepath we know of just now..."

"Pbbth!"

A smile broke across Nathan's face, warm and relaxed and tender. "I state the obvious a lot," he said. "You'll get used to it."
