When: Afternoon, 2ish (Set totally arbitrarily)
Rating: PG. Just because.
Warren approached the office of Scott Summers, his head still pounding just a bit from all the exertion of the past few days. It had been nice to come back from school, but he was still a bit unsure as to why he'd been called there.
Scott had left the door open, having been expecting Warren. Thankfully none of the kids had taken that as an invitation - he didn't mind talking to them if they felt like they needed it, but his mind was very definitely not in headmaster-space at the moment. "Come in, sit down," he said absently, eyes on his computer screen as Warren appeared in the doorway. "Close the door behind you."
Warren entered the headmaster's office and closed the door behind him before he spoke.
"Really, if you don't mind, I think I'd prefer to stand." Warren admitted plainly, not feeling like explaining his statement.
Scott opened his mouth, then closed it again, raising an eyebrow. "Uh-huh," he said after a moment. "Fine with me. Well, if you're going to stand, just don't pace, all right? That gets on my nerves." He leaned back in his chair, saving the file he'd been working on with a few keystrokes. "You're probably wondering why you're here?"
Warren simply gave Scott a rather apathetic shrug.
"I'm guessing it's not for my sparkling personality." he said in an attempt at humor.
"You're here because I'm wondering why you're here," Scott said, too preoccupied to be diplomatic about it. "Apart from the obvious - and by the way, Nathan had a point. If the two of you don't keep it down either Charles is going to be calling you into his office for a little chat on discretion or some of the more irritable staff members will lynch the pair of you in the halls."
Warren merely gave Scott a shrug.
"What can I say, we hadn't seen each other in quite a while. Can you blame us for being a bit...excited to see each other? I mean, I'm sure that you and Jean had a reunion period when she came back." he told Scott, totally deciding to ignore the threat of lynching. "Besides, it's not like I have much else to be doing around here while I'm on a break from law school."
"I'm not suggesting the two of you swap Piotr's bed for a pair of twins," Scott said, unable to quite keep the sarcasm out of his voice, "and I'm not looking for some kind of expression of repentance. Just keep it down. For the sake of the babies, if nothing else. Especially the telekinetic one. You don't want her to take a dislike to you. There are a number of people firmly convinced that she's plotting something."
Scott reached out for his coffee cup, sniffing at it. Ice cold. He took a sip anyway. "Anyhow. The question of what you're planning to do around here while you're on break is what interests me. This isn't a vacation spot."
"Well, I'm sure that you must have some sort of use for a young, strong mutant who can perform stealth reconnaisance for the team." he stated, his vanity twinkling through for a moment as he spoke.
It wasn't that he was trying to be difficult at all. Merely, he was exerting the fiercely independant streak that he'd had to cultivate while he worked on his own as the Avenging Angel.
"So is this you telling me you want to come back to the team?" Scott asked, ignoring the flash of vanity. Ignoring everything except the content of what Warren had actually said, since that was the only thing that was relevant. "Full-time, part-time, active member, reserve member?"
Warren gave a small sigh of annoyance. He really didn't care to admit that he was essentially begging to rejoin the team.
"Whichever position you would need me in. I've relinquished a lot of my duties to Worthington Industries for the remainder of my law school education, so if you need me to be Full-time and active, I can do that. However, I would imagine that you all might like to put into practice some of my other skills? After all, I was a Business major." he said, giving Scott a slight smirk, as if to say that he wouldn't mind teaching classes either.
"Well," Scott murmured dryly, "we do have our own in-house lawyer these days, were you aware of that? Maybe you could help him out. And as for business classes... term's already started, but we do have room on the schedule starting in January."
"Who is this 'in-house counsel'? I might be able to persuade some of my professors to allow that as a part of my internship program." he admitted, rubbing his sleep deprived eyes.
In all likelihood, as soon as he finished this meeting he was going back to his room and take a nice long nap.
"Nathan," Scott said with a perfectly straight face.
Warren let out a soft sound that was somewhere between a chuckle and dismay.
"Oh, yeah, I'm sure he'd like working with me." Warren responded, giving Scott a look that didn't look particularly friendly but not as rude as to be thrown out immediately.
"He passed the New York bar back in August," Scott explained, "although he had the law degree and the previous qualifications from New Mexico, years ago. He's using it mostly to do some international work for Charles." Scott shrugged, holding his hands out palms up. "If you want to draw up a syllabus for a business course, feel free. As for the team, I can work you back into the training rotation. You haven't been gone as long as Bobby and Jean, so I don't think you'd need quite as much retraining time, but we'll take it as it comes."
Warren gave Scott a small smile that expressed his thankfulness for the other man's willingness to at least work with him, despite anything else he may have said or done over the past few days.
"Well, that sounds like it might not be an altogether bad idea." he said, finally regaining his previous aura of self-absorbedness.
Scott gave Warren a slightly quizzical look, not absolutely sure what was going on in his head - but then, that wasn't new. "All right, so, get back to me with the syllabus and I'll restore your accesses and get back to you on a spot in the training rotation."
Warren gave him a nod that indicated that they'd struck a deal. "It's nice to see that the fine art of negotiation isn't dead" he thought wryly as he returned the look.
"Is that all?" he asked after a couple moments of silence passed between them
"Pretty much," Scott said with a brief look of amsuement. "Unless you've got some other business we need to discuss?"
Warren debated asking something for a moment before he spoke again.
"Not unless I could persuade you to allow Piotr and I to actually share quarters." he finally said, giving Scott that annoying as hell smirk that usually would make those of the female persuasion melt like warm putty in his hands.
Scott gave him an uncomprehending, 'you're talking but I'm not sure why you think what you're saying is making sense' sort of look. "If you want to share quarters, talk to Cain to clear taking over one of the empty suites and go to town. Why on earth would I need persuading? Actually, why on earth is it any of my business? I don't recall asking anyone for permission to move in with Jean."
Warren's hand was on the door, which he opened as he replied.
"Oh, well, I just assumed that you were, considering how you were chosen to be the one to call me down here to 'discuss' my nocturnal activities. No harm, no foul." he said, leaving Scott's office.
"I'll take what was said here into consideration. Catch you later Scott." he added, closing the door behind him as a way of ending the conversation.
