Saturday evening, Angelo finds Kitty behaving rather strangely.
Kitty stared at the tv, looking slightly puzzled. She could have sworn there was a good hour left on the movie. Now, though, the main menu screen simply looped over and over again, and she had no idea how long it had been doing that. Some part of her suspected it might have been for a while. She'd thought that watching a movie would be low stress - her work was still leaving her awfully tired, so she'd decided to take a night off from it and it had been too early to go to bed. Hell, it had still been light when she started the movie.
Now, though, the window was dark, reflecting the inside of the rec room at her, and the movie was clearly over.
Not even managing to think that maybe she should turn off the tv, Kitty sat and sort of half watched the menu loop over and over. Or, at least, stared in the tv's general direction.
Angelo was suffering one of his periodic fits of insomnia, and Joyita needed walking anyway, so he was out in the early morning. Passing the common room, he stopped with a slight frown on hearing the menu muzak, and stuck his head round the door.
"...Kitty?"
"Hmmm?" Kitty blinked again. Someone had spoken. At least the menu being on repeat meant there was nothing to alarm her with how long she'd spaced this time. Turning her head she caught sight of Angelo in the door way and blinked again. How long had he been there? "Can I help with something?"
"You're... watchin' the menu card", he pointed out worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"Course I'm not," Kitty said. "I was watching the movie. Silly." She smiled, doing her best to look reassuring. As though she wasn't worried about her little blackouts.
"Movie's over now, an' you haven't changed the channel. Or the DVD or whatever."
"Yeah, I guess I spaced." Reaching out, she grabbed the remote and thumbed the power button, turning the tv off. The conversation seemed detached, disconected from anything. Or maybe that was her. "You off for a walk?"
"Yeah. Couldn't sleep an' nor could she, so it seemed like the thing to do. You headin' to bed, or d'you want to join us?"
Kitty's eyes strayed to the dark window and it seemed for a second as though she would get lost again, simply not answer. But after a pause that seemed just a tad longer than it needed to be, she said, "No. I think I should sleep."
"...Probably a good idea, yeah." He was still eyeing her, worried. "You sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine, Angelo," Kitty said, doing her best to sound sure. "I'm just a little blasted from midterms and what not. Who knew, college? Actualy harder than high school. And here I always thought that was a myth."
He wasn't entirely convinced, but nodded after a moment. "Okay. Sleep well." He'd be keeping an eye on her, though, for any more space-outs.
